14 ranks? What were they trying to do form a Macedonian phalanx?

Silly KillerMongoose, you should know a Macedonian Phalanx consisted of eight, sixteen or 32 ranks.

I've heard of a huge rank for Macedonians but 32?? That's almost an anchient column, they would need tight spaces or massive amounts of men to justify that.

It was used for manoeuvrings - There was also about a meter of distance between each file. 16 was for delivering a charge, 8 for receiving one.

Arround 1800 there where the füssilierbattailons and the Feldjäger, I think it is was a Regiment with 10 companies.
