Hello all, I am really interested in the concept of reenacting and I'd like to start but its been hard to find a group. I live in the Northeastern United States (CT) and I've been having a helluva lotta trouble. I'm not era-biased. If anyone knows of good sources to find groups or of groups in my area (fat chance) specifically, I'd appreciate all the help I can get.
All the Best,
Howe

North-east? Isn't that like stacked with groups? :P

Somehow i haven't been able to find anything. I tried Civil war groups and my emails were eventually ignored because I was asking too many questions. In all honesty, I feel that's appropriate since i'm making a time and financial-based decision.

They stopped replying because you asked too many questions?
That's new.

Naw im based all the way out in Illinois, however I love helping folks out to get into hobby.
This is a website for basically all reenacting unit come together to form battalion, brigade, division events.
http://www.usvolunteers.org/usvmainpage.html (http://www.usvolunteers.org/usvmainpage.html)
the first three units should be near you and that Division is pretty good, Scot Buffington has great repuation for authenticity. Basically try to make the best of the event experience. (he would be the Division commander) But anyway check out the first three units. In fact, check out all the units/division/arty/cav tabs they offer, maybe you'll find one there.

Anyone know of any good NC groups besides the 26th?
-
I'd love to start reenacting but I don't have enough time :'(
-
I'd like to without too much traveling, any events in Ohio?

Are you just interested in the ACW?

Menelaos, Ohio has LOADS of reenacting also if you don't mind taking the relatively small trips to Indiana or Illinois there's quite a bit over there. Not to mention you're not too far away from PA reenacting.
But I don't go as far up as Ohio to do reenacting, so I couldn't tell you off the top of my head. I just know there's plenty up there.

Ah thanks Deo, this is definently a bit more local for me, just down the road.
-
My concern about doing local reenactments is that the entire team would be Yankee. Which I imagine there's travelers and locals that do confederates.
-
Well everything local around here (which is not much in the way of reenactments, maybe one. The rest are like living history events) is Confederate. It's rare to see a yankee uniform down here.
