Honestly really great maps so far! As a fellow map maker I have to say that you really have taken time into understanding that events need to have maps that pre-made!

Some ideas that I think you could use for other maps in the future:

-Explore the use of buildings in linebattle maps. Whether its a small farm here or a windmill there or even have cobblestone fences. 

-If you really feel like tackling a project I would encourage looking at a battle that you can try to replicate.  Thats something I've tried to do i.e. The Battle of Hoth map that has been in the community (don't know if it still is)

Honestly I have to give it up to you that you are continuing to make maps in a game where nearly all of the creative mapmakers have left the community so keep it up!

When you make a new map you must select the right type of terrain first and reset the map. The green shadows on your sand and snow comes from the fact that you are adding snow or sand to a grass map. Moreover, everytime you paint terrain and modify the height on your map the final size of the map file becomes much bigger. You should read my old guide there:
