We are happy to launch the latest iteration of the Napoleonic Wars European Cup NWEC tournament for the NW community; NWEC 2014 has arrived. NWEC is a tournament that brings together the nationalities of the NW community in a healthy competition of bayonet Group Fighting. Nations put together their strongest teams and battle it out against fellow European rivals for the prestigious title of European Champion.
The tournament originally started in the spring of 2012, as a pilot designed to test out national group fighting competitions. The pilot was a success and bred a full blown tournament in the autumn of 2012. Now, 2 years later, NWEC is back!
Many nations have participated in past NWECs, notably the 'big 4': UK, France, Germany and Netherlands. Several other nations have been successful as well, including Denmark, Finland, Turkey and Poland, all having made it to knockout stages. NWEC 2012 had a total of 16 national teams, we hope to see equivalent or more in NWEC 2014, so we encourage nations to come out and make teams for this great competition!
Key Dates: The team draw will be held on the 16th of April, with match scheduling available from 17th of April onwards. During the Group Stage more than one match played a week will be encouraged. Knockouts will be played weekly thenceforth. We aim to have the tournament completed by late-May latest. More information regarding deadlines will come around the beginning of the tournament!
We encourage fellow countrymen to come together, form national teams and sign-up!
This is the European Cup, and accordingly only European nations are eligable to sign-up. The criteria for a 'Nation' is based on citizenship. Nation mergers are permissible but will be subject to the NWEC governing judges' discretion. Generally mergers are only allowed in exceptional cases, largely based of criteria such as common past sovreignty, common language or common identified culture, e.g. Former Yugoslavia or Former Czechoslovakia. Nevertheless, none of these criteria will absolutely guarantee a merger.
For those of you interested in Captaincy or Vice-Captaincy for your nation, please keep in mind that it is an administrative position as well that requires you to make sure that your team makes the deadlines and that people can make it to the match dates and times you agree with your opponents. In the case of multiple individuals signing up for a Nation's Captaincy or multiple teams signing up as a National team, we encourage respective individuals to negotiate amongst eachother a resolution that produces a single team for the tournament. If no agreement is willingly met then the issue will be brought to the NWEC governing judges who will review the case and decide the outcome of the dispute. The NWEC judge review will not guarantee that any individual of either disputant team will be part of the final national team.
It is expected that the choosing of a National team's line-up is genuinely and absolutely intended to produce the strongest possible team for respective nations. The NWEC judges will review appeals against biased team selection should there be issues. We hope that friend, regiment or any other sort of bias does not infringe the process of forming the best possible National teams.
Sign-Up: Please register using the following form, please include Steam for the Captain and Vice-Captains. Team line-up changes can be made up until the Team draw deadline of the 16th April, simply repost your new team in the thread to have your team updated. The sign up deadline is 16th April.
The minimum size for a final team is 12 players, the max is 16 players. Teams should expect to field at least 8 combatants during matches, the desired number being 10 combatants, so keep this in mind when creating your team line-ups.

Here is a detailed list of all the rules and regulations by which the NWEC will be run. They must all be followed to ensure a smooth experience. Rules and regulations may be subject to change by the NWEC organisers.
1. Nations Rules:
1.1 Each nation is to have one team.
1.2 Each nation is allowed a minimum of 12 people and maximum of 16 people on their team.
1.3 Nations are in charge of picking their own teams.
1.4 The organizers retain the right to intervene in case of malpractices on behalf of a national captain.
1.5 Only persons who hold citizenship in the country are eligable to play for the nation. (Individual exceptions may be granted).
1.6 People who have not played a single match for their nation may be replaced in the roster during the tournament. Once a player has played in a single match for their nation he is permanently on the team roster.
2. Tournament Rules:
2.1 The tournament has a pool stage and an elimination stage. The winners and second place teams will progress from the groups to the quarter-finals after which all matches are played in a single elimination fashion.
2.2 Every victory in the pool stage will award your nation 3 points. Every draw in the pool stage will award your nation 1 point. (In the case of a draw points-wise individual round-difference will be used as a tie-breaker, and if round-difference would also result in a draw, 9 additional rounds will be played between the drawing nations.)
2.3 Matches are to be scheduled between team captains, and a referee is to be informed at least 24 hours (a day) in advance. (A referee is either one of the organizers, or someone that the organizers approve as a referee). A match may not proceed without a referee present.
2.4 Each team is to have at least 8 players on the server at the time the match is going to begin.
2.5 Each match consists of 20 rounds. If a team reaches a majority of 11 rounds won before all 20 rounds have been played the match will end. In case of a 10-all draw in a knock-out stage match an additional round will be played to decide the winner.
2.6 Only people on the team roster are to be used in the matches. Players must use their listed name on the team roster when in game and must use only Warband ID for all their matches.
2.7 Matches may only be played on NWEC provided servers.
3. In-Game Rules:
3.1 Matches are fought 10 versus 10. If a team cannot field 10 or more players the match will be fought 9 versus 9. If a team cannot field 9 or more players the match will be fought 8 versus 8. If a team cannot field less than 8 players they have to field as many players as they can against an 8-man opposition. Any evidence of a deliberate concealment of available players for a match, in an effort to reduce the match size from 10 vs 10 to smaller may prompt disciplinary action against the team involved by NWEC organisers.
3.2 No shooting.
3.3 Only normal line infantry rankers are to be used (i.e. no guards or skirmishers).
3.4 Only bayonets are to be used.
3.5 Kicking is allowed.
3.6 No excessive delaying in between rounds.
4. Player Conduct:
4.1 Pay attention to the admin messages.
4.2 Accept defeat or victory gracefully.
4.3 If you wish to appeal a match result or referee decision please do so on the forum in a respectful manner rather than during a match in progress. Your appeal will be reviewed by NWEC judges.
5. Organiser Discretion:
5.1 Common sense will be used by organisers and NWEC judges in making judgements.
5.2 Anything not specifically mentioned may be enacted at the organisers discretion (we cannot cover every eventuallity and as such some stuff will have to be made up along the way).
5.3 The severity of an infraction and as such the degree of the punishment will be up to the organisers to decide.
Team Award The members of the winning team of NWEC 2014 will be given the right to use a customised Champion's signature on the forum.
Player Awards There will be a few awards given to players who have in some way distinguished themselves above (or below) the rest. To be eligible for these awards a player must have played in at least 3 matches. The awards Categories:
