July 2019

Beginning of June, the 17th had set its foundations strong the currently enlisted troop were performing at an exceptional rate which satisfied Colonel Daniel Carrick and his fellow officers. The regiments reputation has increased in the eyes of the public due to the victories gained last month, the income of fresh recruits have really bolstered the ranks as of late, therefore, rankers have been split into groups and assigned to a CO or NCO for mentoring. Due to the expansion of the regiment the higher command once again has appointed two new Lance Corporals to assist with the facilitating of all the new recruits.

Over the encompassing weeks, the regiment has been on the move constantly, during the first few days of the month Col Daniel Carrick was called upon to report what they have encountered within the previous month in person. Thereby leaving his men for a short period of time, during this time the regiment was still on the move this was when were first encountered the enemy. The 32nd Black Legion had blockaded our way, therefore, a fight was inevitable, Cpt Edward Frasier with the support of Lt James Love engaged in a quick decisive field battle, the 32nd were no match for the 17th's spectacular shooting and melee, now on the backfoot the 32nd split their force to try and surround us, knowing this Cpt Edward Frasier was quick to adapt and maneuvered to prevent this, the 32nd were divided, losing men by the volley all they could do was retreat. Now hearing the success of the regiment Col Daniel Carrick rushed back in haste to celebrate. However, this was short lived as we received reports that the 57e Regiment d'Infanterie "Les Terribles" had mobilised and are heading in our direction. Knowing the reputation of this enemy force the Officers were worried, we were isolated with no support, we knew we had to stand our ground therefore for 2 days we analysed how best we could repel this ensuing force. We located an area of woodland which had few hills, this was it, this would be where we take our stand. On the 3rd day the battle ensued, the shots of muskets and battle crys from the men could be heard for miles, the battle was even throughout the entirety leaving both sides in doubt about what's going to happen. This was until a sole ranker from the 17th with outstanding and brave heroics single-handedly broke through the enemies line weakening there position entirely, due to this act of bravery the 17th managed to press on and defeat the 57e. Due to his heroics on this day Private Lewis Love was awarded the Distinguished medal which is only ever granted to people who carried out acts under such extreme circumstances. After this conflict the 17th were ordered to set up camp and wait for allied troops to relieve them, this would take around a week till they were on the march again. Now relieved, Col Daniel Carrick lead them forth once more this was where they encountered a familiar face, the 23rd Regiment of Foot who we had previously defeated. Now bolstered by new freshmen the 23rd were hungry for revenge, they came at us with such force becoming rather overwhelming for the men of the 17th. Our formations were suffering, shots were missing and our melee wasn't up to standard. The 23rd managed to overpower us and forced us into retreat. Something we will never forget.

For his heroic efforts of bravery during the battle with the 57e Pte Lewis Love received the Distinguished Award of bravery and courage.
Also, like to congratulate Cpt Edward Frasier on winning the "FitzAlan combined tournament" which was hosted by our own Sjt Walter FitzAlan. After being crowned victor of this tournament Cpt Edward Frasier was awarded the St Andrews Medal by Col Daniel Carrick for his continued dedication and outstanding performance.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - June has been a rocky month for the regiment. We have had many fun events which we performed well in, however we had a few where our performance was subpar. It is important for us to remember that our victories are only relative and that we have much we need to improve on. I’m more than satisfied with the current course of the regiment and I’m eager to see what we can accomplish.

Captain Edward Fraser - So now were onto the third month of our regiment and i can proudly say that we've made great progress having done very well in our competitive matches this month. I am also very happy with the atmosphere in the current regiment its been a very productive and fun month. I hope we can keep improving upon our fundamentals going forward.

Lieutenant James Love - We are over three months in now with the regiment and I am glad to say we have ironed out a lot of the issues that were found in the initial stages. The events we play are fun and exciting, and hopefully soon we will be able to have a competitive run. As summer nears we should expect attendance to become inconsistent, but overall things have shaped up excellently.

Nice update, happy to see the regiment is doing well.
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often.
