Well, they probably decided to cut corners, although the wounded animations eventually made it into shogun 2 from empire as well as some of the charge animations, and the on fire animations made it into rome and attila.

The prone reloading/firing animations, surrendering animations, and the diseases and sapping tool never made it in though. In addition a POW system was planned for empire and Napoleon along with a family tree.

Probably they mean something like in Rome II, where you kill, capture or release prisoners.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

There were also several factions cut from ETW, including: Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg (featured in NTW), Tuscany, the Khanate of Khiva, the Mughal Empire which did make it into the game, but was meant to be a playable faction, and lastly the Swiss Confederation which would later be featured in Napoleon Total War (NTW).

"And it's such a huge, deep game, and that's one of its selling points. I've had conversations with people at Sega who almost feel like we're doing too much -- that there's too much content there."

Warhammer was also meant to have standards/colors like the tabletop.

A couple of the many standards cut from the game.

Couple with an animation in battle.

"I can confirm that there won't be bayonets in the game. It comes down to the amount of developer time available to us at the moment. Ideally we'd include them but we're not able to do it if we want to ship the game any time soon (there's a lot of bespoke animations and matched animations that would be required and they would add a lot of time to our release schedule)."

Damn that’s a shame, ETW could’ve been so much better

It's probably unmoddable especially at this point.

Napoleon was a better game than Empire anyway. Better mechanics and Combat. Only missed out on the progressive map that Empire had but hey, I would rather better battles.

NTW had fantastic battles, and cinematography, but Empire's scope and campaign was beautiful. Thats why an Empire II would be amazing.

Combat mechanics of Rome II, the old technology tree and map functionality with the map of empire two.. maybe even bigger. Just a huge ass map would be cool , to actually have to think about strategic complications like exposure of borders. But with the obvious military focus that Total War always had.
Why Rome II combat? Rome I has better combat.
