Hello Hinkel, since I know you have vast knowledge of the Civil War so I had a question/suggestion. From my understanding most officers during the war would have carried the model 1850 Foot Officers sword with Colonels and other staff officers using the 1850 field officer swords. Considering First Manasas was the opening of the war I couldn't think that there would be a huge shortage or equipment or that they would be trying to cut costs by using other swords. That being said why are most officers in NaS using 1860 light cavalry swords? Would the cavalry regiments being generally in the west leave a surplus of sabers in the East that were issued out in the beginning of the war? I couldn't find any evidence to suggest there were many 1860 light sabers issued to officers at Manasas but if you have some I would love to learn!
