How far do you go for Reenactments?
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:18:41 pm »
The closest real combat reenactment group is an 11 hour drive a way (there is a train that goes there though too, but it's slower).

Would you guys see this as an acceptable distance?

Also just to add, I can't drive  :P

Well to me thats waaaaaaaaaaay too far. almost half a day. say a training event or something starts at 12:00 noon, you will have to get up at about 11pm (to eat etc) then drive for 11Hrs.
you then have to travel back another 11 hours, 22hrs plus the event (2-?? hours) it means you could be gone for over a day!!!!!!

Average 3-4 hours. My longest (besides gettysburg) is to Fresno which was 6 last time. Shortest is the one after gettysburg and is half hour.
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Alright, I found an even closer reenactment group, I'd have to cross the border every time but it's only 7 hours away. There's also a possibility that I might move in the next two years and that would bring me only 4 and a half hours away.

Crossing the borders? Good luck explaining why you have bunch of guns in your trunk. But I'd go with the closer one. My average trip to reenactments and living history is about 30 minute to an hour and half.  But im seeing some two hours in future.

I'm not aware of US-Canadian border law. What's it like?

I mean, if there's a re-enactment in Belgium, say, Waterloo, the only sign you cross the Dutch-Belgian border is the sudden drop of the highway quality.

I love the Schengen-treaty.

The American-Canadian border is on the look out for drugs mostly. As long as the firearm is registered and everything you'd be fine.

But I'd be a musician anyway.

Compared to our beautiful Dutch and German highways, yes.

They make up for it by being very friendly people. Well, at least the Flemish. Wallonians only like you when you speak French to them.

Closest I've ever had was a 20 minute drive. Furthest was 11 hours. Typically the normal drive I do is between 4-6 hours.

Same here.

See, the good thing about living in the same state as Landrik is that I can just quote whatever he says and put "same here" after it.  ;)

Debatable

In my experience they are worse then the French.

I mean, in my experience,  Frenchies often don't even speak English, Wallonians just refuse to speak English or Dutch while they master both languages.

Or maybe all re-enactors are just bastards. That's possible...
