Off Topic / Movie & TV Show Critic Thread
« on: November 13, 2016, 07:24:08 am »
This is quite different from the normal threads I make but i felt that there should be a place to critique movies. I, myself am an avid movie watcher with very broad tastes. I've seen more movies than most people will ever see in their life time (not sure if that's a good thing).

Post here movies that you've seen, movies you've enjoyed or hated, or just general critiques of movies.

Side Note: This really shouldn't be a thread filled with salt. It's just a movie thread, so keep it about movies please. You can introduce SOME politics and religion as long as it related to a MOVIE and your critique of it.

An example of a fair critique: I think Micheal Moore's Bowling for Columbine had some fair points to be made about guns in the united states but it was mostly biased, liberal bullshit used to push a very specific agenda. The movie had very little focus as it was a movie about guns, yet it contradicts itself by saying that the film is not about getting rid of guns. Beyond this he make no real point as to what the solution should be. He points to how the media is the problem for constantly showing violence on television, he also makes the implication that video games are also part of the problem (despite overwhelming evidence against it), this is clear case of 'Correlation not equaling Causation.' More violence on TV does not mean that TV causes more violence.

In the NA community, there are two great 1v1 leagues that compete to win their titles, The North American Napoleonic Wars League and the newer Twitch Napoleonic Wars League. As a former participant in both leagues, i felt that it would be quite interesting if the winners of both leagues would compete in a special 1v1 style tournament to decide which regiment is the best in North America. For this reason, i am hosting this tournament with the help of others from both major leagues. Both winning regiments will be invited to this tournament and no other regiments will be allowed entry. If a regiment refuses to accept the challenge, the winning regiment of the other league will be named NA Grand League Champion. To prevent this from happening, i have decided to take the example of TNWL and create a 100$ prize pool to the winner (of my own funds) with potentially more funds later on. The tournament will have a maximum of 7 matches and a minimum of 4, the goal of which is to win 4 matches against your opponent. Once the 4 matches have been won, the victor will receive the title + prize, the remaining matches will not be played. Each match will be a first to 7 rounds won. It is setup like this to prevent any tie breaker scenarios, a winner must be chosen. This event will be lived streamed by Jorge of TNWL.

There is no rush to this event, the rules will be determined at a later date as well as referees. It will likely be several months before league winners are determined.

1. No firing out of line. A line must be stationary in order to fire.
2. No firing on the charge, which the exception of the officer who can fire his pistol once.
3. You may only reload while in line. no reloading while in melee. Once a regiment is in melee, they may no longer fire.
4. Mercenaries are not allowed, regiments must play the roster of whichever league they were in. All new member entries who wish to compete must be notified to an event host. Exceptions MAY be granted as long as BOTH regiments agree.
5. No musicians or ensigns are to be played. Only 2 players may go officer.
6. No officer aim, this will either result in a slay or reset depending on the length of the round and is up to the referees to decide. The exception to this rule is when an officer is charging, he is then free game. If a regiment Officer Aims 6 times in a given match, they must forfeit the match to the opponent. If a regiment OAs 3 times in the same round, they forfeit the round to the opponent. Taking damage will only result in a warning, action will only be taken as a result of a death. This rule will only apply to an officer leading a line and does not apply to an officer at the back of the line. It does apply however to both ends of a stationary line (meaning both officers if they have them). If a ranker is leading the line, OA will not count.
7. If a line is made of 3 men or less, they must charge.
8. Regiments must bring at least 14 men to the event, if they do not then the match will be played as if they did have 14.
9. A regiment may only have +1 players to the other team, any more must require players to drop to spectator.
10. Players do not have to address gaps in a firing exchange, however when lining up, they must be in a line with NO spacing.
11. If a regiment would like to avoid hill camping, they are allowed to call "clock," at which point, the other regiment will have 3 minutes before they have to move from the hill. Time will be kept by the head referee. Clock must be called by the leading officer in ALL CHAT.
12. Regiment leaders may also call "no chat," at which point, the head referee will inform everyone (via admin chat) that No Chat is in place. There will be a 3 second grace period and after that, all chat will be banned for the remainder of the match which the exception of the regiment leaders and referees. To further clarify this rule, each regiment is allowed 2 "regiment leaders." Presumably the colonel as well as one other regiment officer. Regiment leaders should notify the referee as to who is a regiment leader and who is not to prevent false slays, however the responsibility lies solely with the regiment leaders. The head referee may give ONE warning to an offender, after which slays will be given.
13. Each match is first to 7 rounds won. This shouldn't take more than an hour, however if the round is over 1 hour long, the winner shall be whomever has the highest total points. If it is a tie, there shall be one final round to determine a winner of the match. To win the tournament a regiment must win 4 matches against their opponent.
14. Matches must be scheduled on a weekly basis, however if both regiments decide to do more than 1 in a given week, they may do so. Matches cannot however be played consecutively. There must be a 24 hour wait from the moment the match begun before another match may be played. Exceptions may be given to regiments if they have trouble scheduling the event, just let the event hosts know before hand. Dates and times are determined by both regiments and must be agreed to by both regiments.
15. Maps must be agreed to by both regiment leaders.
16. Line units ONLY.
17. If a regiment agreed to a date and time and have not rescheduled, they are given 10 minutes to enter the match before it's begun. If they do not show, the match is forfeit to the other team.
18. Referees may enact rules or punishments not listed here, however they must make it clear in admin chat, both the rule enacted as well as the punishment given.
19. Members of the competing regiments may not referee any matches, this includes event hosts. In a match, an event host who is playing MAY NOT rule against a referee. In a match, a referee is to be considered the highest authority. This is to prevent event hosts from biasing the match in favor of one regiment.
20. Before a regiment reaches a score of 3 matches won, 2 referees are required to attend every match. To prevent disagreement among them, one referee will be designated as head referee and the other assistant referee. All major decisions will be made by the head referee while the assistant referee is there to watch for cases of FoL, FoC, FiM (fire in melee), ect. The assistant referee need not inform the head referee of these offenses until after punishment is given out. As assistant referee, if you see a broken rule, you must act on it immediately (FoL/FoC/FiM are all slayable offenses).
21. Once a regiment reaches a score of 3 matches won, 3 referees are required to attend every match there after. Again, to prevent disagreement there will be 1 head referee and 2 assistant referees (each is assigned to watch 1 line by the head referee).
22. If 2 referees are required but one must leave during the event, the other referee will take over as head referee by himself and continue. If 3 referees are required and one must leave then refer to rule #20 and continue. If 3 referees are required and 2 leave, the match is declared null and void unless another referee can be found. If there are no referees, the match is declared null and void unless 1 (or 2, refer to rule #20) are found.
23. Referees MUST have some level of coordination outside of NW. This can include teamspeak, discord, steam chat, ect. In game chat will not due.
NOTE: Rules #18-23 are to ensure that every round of every match is held to the highest standard. If over admining becomes a problem, the event hosts may change rules #20-23 midway through the tournament.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask. If you disagree with a particular rule, please let it be known now, what you specifically disagree with and what you think would be better. I'm allowing for a 1 week draft period for the community to discuss and debate the rules that i have laid forth. It will come down to the event hosts as to what rules we add/keep/remove/change.

So i was thinking the other day about how american baseball works, there are 2 leagues and the 2 best teams of each league move onto the world series. I was thinking that maybe the two winning regiments of each pro-league of TNWL and NANWL should compete in a 1v1, a very special 1v1 with slightly altered rules to turn up the intensity. Instead of the traditional 10 round game, we do first to 7 rounds win the match (we can't have ties) and instead of just 1 match, we do a max of 7 games, if you win 4 then you win the championship and can basically be considered the best regiment NA until the next seasons of NANWL and TNWL start up again.

If the winner of both leagues is the same regiment then we won't do this as that regiment would simply be considered the best NA. The point of this is to determine which regiment really is best NA.

Rules and referees can be determined at a later time seeing as this is just an idea for now.

Thoughts guys?

If this becomes a thing, i would suggest the winner of the current season of TNWL to face the winner of the NEXT season of NANWL.

Update: Okay, just to explain, 'world series' does not mean that we are including EU, it's NA only (sorry EU). I was using 'world series' as an analogy to american baseball. They call the final series the 'world series' despite only the US and Canada participating.

Community / Looking for a French Canadian Regiment
« on: October 07, 2016, 12:00:59 pm »
This is kind of an odd request but i'm learning french for college and i want people to practice with. I would join a french regiment but i don't have the schedule to do EU events. A french canadian regiment that actively speaks french (or even partially) would be perfect. If you know of any or if you're recruiting, add me on steam (GlukTheWalrus) or post here.

Regiments / ✯ The Black Guards ✯ [NA] Join the Revolution!
« on: May 10, 2016, 04:21:37 am »

History of The Black Guards

Maria Nikiforova organized the Black Guards’ first unit. Nikiforova, often known by her nickname Marusya, was a Ukrainian anarchist organiser who put together the first Black Guards cell in the city of Alexandrovsk in the Ukraine. Nikiforova, who is often compared to Joan of Arc, due to her important role in a male dominated conflict from a young age, started the first Black Guards cell in an attempt to bring the land reform and wealth redistribution called for by the peasants to fruition. Nikiforova, a self-proclaimed terrorist, directed her unit of Black Guards to terrorize the Alexandrovsk local government in order to achieve the political change she desired. Later similar cells were established by Nestor Makhno throughout other portions of the Ukraine. Makhno led a "Robin Hood-like existence" during the revolution, seizing land and distributing wealth among the peasants. Soon after the establishment of some of the first Black Guards cells, it became apparent that this small terrorist cell structure of organization was ideal for the anarchist political and military organisers to utilize to attempt to violently bring about the ideological changes their members desired. The Black Guards were eventually organized into a more structured set of cells by the Moscow Federation of Anarchist Groups under Lev Cherny's organising.

Constitution of The Black Guards

1. Assembly Meetings will be held regularly in order to discuss all issues of the organization.
2. Debate shall be unlimited unless specifically set otherwise by the Assembly
3. If Debate is Unlimited then everyone shall be allowed as much time to speak on an issue as they would like before an official vote is held.
4. All officers are to be elected by a Plurality (holding the most votes), the 2nd place winner would be the 2nd in line to take control of the line in case of death and so on and so forth. (this is only used as a fall back if there is any sort of disagreement over who is to lead at a given event)
5. Belonging to more than one regiment is acceptable
6. A vote to change the Constitution should have a ⅗ majority vote to pass.
7. There shall be no ranks in our organization
8. All members are allowed to bring up Assembly Motions, all members have the right to have their motion debated and voted on

Organization Rules and Regulations

Spoiler
In a vote to kick out a member for trolling, or just being a rather mean spirited person, At Least 75% of members should agree.

General Discussion / 1er Grenadiers Officer Manual
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:24:23 pm »
So it has been a long time since i was an active member of the 1er Grenadiers. When I was made officer, i felt it necessary to provide an Officer Manual for those wishing to be officers or if anyone was curious as to the specific roles and duties of the officers. Today i learned that another regiment had a copy of my manual and apparently uses it for their regiment, a bit honored by this (since i thought that no one else would ever use it) I decided that i should provide it to everyone. Keep in mind that the 1er Grenadiers was one of the longest, most renown, and most successful regiments in both the EU and NA community, this was effectively our secret to success and longevity in written form.

If you're starting a regiment or if you are thinking about reforming yours, feel completely free to use this or copy it and make tweaks to your regiment. If you wish to contact me, my steam is GlukTheWalrus.

Service:
The regiment was first organized May 1, 1862, with men recruited from Fulton and other counties. The companies first named were twelve months' troops (regulars), a majority re-enlisting for the war, while others were mustered out when the twelve months expired. In 1862, they were led by Col. William J. Magill (wounded at Antietam), and then by Capt. Richard A. Wayne. By September 1863, they were led by Maj. James Clarke Gordon. They were surrendered along with Joseph E. Johnston's army at Bennett Place in North Carolina on April 26, 1865. Sometimes confused with Colonel James N. Ramsey's 1st Georgia Infantry, which was formed in Macon on April 3, 1861, and mustered out of service in Augusta on March 10, 1862.

List of Engagements:

Battle of Antietam, Maryland (9/17/62) in George T. Anderson's brigade
Second Manassas, Virginia (8/28/62 - 8/30/62) in Anderson's brigade (called "Jones' Brigade")

So i'm trying to make a short video on the american civil war. Specifically i need an intro song, something i can use for a couple seconds. Probably something more upbeat. Southern music is preferable. Also other music for BCoF would be nice as well for when it comes out.
