Title: My 28mm Diorama of the attack of La Haye Sainte Waterloo
Post by: BattlePlayer on July 30, 2020, 12:19:54 am
Thought this might  get seen better posted here  - I am  constructing  in plastic figure format, the Battle for La Haye Sainte  during Waterloo, the idea behind it is to  represent  most of the farm complex  and  area in front,  and to include  the  French 54th/55th  Ligne  Regimsnts, also the 1st Regiment of Cuirassiers  attacking, with  the Two units of KGL  (light  and  line)   and some of the 95th.
I am strting with the figures first  (mainly from a make called Perry)   as I will have to add the farm later.

Hope all will find my work of interest.

Paint your Nw Charakter face on a figure and send it to him. Then you can take part in the battles

Title: Re: My 28mm Diorama of the attack of La Haye Sainte Waterloo

About a day each  - mind you I am not at the bench all the time mainly in the evening - so sometimes one figure will streach into a couple of days,   what takes the time is doing each layer and picking out the details  and shading/highlighting  to bring the detail out.

What scale are you using?

and what is the ratio you're going for, from the sounds of it, it looks like you're going for like 1:20th of the historical numbers

Hi there,  they are 28mm  or 1/50 scale,   I  am going to display between 100-150  figures that will be glued in position  on a fixed diorama setting  of the farm and part of the one side and part of the frontal roadside, as I have to fit it all on a bord that will sit on  my side unit, when finished it will be enclosed in a glass case.

My issue with this kind of stuff is that I get really stressed about doing a bad job of the painting, to the point where I can hardly start projects like this anymore.

I got decent at painting WH40K but I haven't touched that stuff in some 8 years, and its much easier to paint metals and tanks than horses and fabrics.

I've literally had a box of Perry British hussars lying around in my room somewhere for months, I just need to man up and do a shit job of them so I can get more and improve.

Maybe you can relate, I just would hate to ruin models by really fucking up the painting.

Its al(https://i.postimg.cc/zvBqnPZ4/IMG-0899.jpg)l about patience and good light  - oh  also  good eyesight or magnification devices  to see fine details  - and lots of practice.

Here is Major Baring  on his  horse  just needs some flat coat over the top.

Its going to be an actual scene  made into a diorama  on a base and then kept in a case, Its just for my own satissfaction to be honest  and pure enjoyment building it.

Hi all,   firstly Thank you all for being patient with me - they take along time to make and paint as I want to get then fairly good  - this requires close up work using high magnification  glasses.

Anyway my latest  figure is Marshall Ney as he was  on one of The Five horses he used at Waterloo, he is ready to follow the French in another attack on LHS.(https://i.postimg.cc/1ttYthYD/IMG-1220.jpg)

Evening all,

Some more progress  with my  dio  - I have nealry finished making the  farm complex  just a  few  things to  make it pop, I have also added a few 2nd KGL  as it was easier to add them before putting the pieces together.

quick note on the Rifle officer, the band on his hat should be Rifle green, the same shade as his uniform, only the sash on his waist should be red,

Also, according to Mike Chappel, the blue on the 5th's uniforms should be a Navy blue, and the trousers of every member of the KGL should be light grey, Mike Chappel is not the most reliable source though, so if you have something from people like Brendan Simms, or a first hand account, go with that instead

Speaking of Simms, i know the farm model is pre-made and you just gotta glue it together, however a fair few large holes were punched into the roof of the main house for more Riflemen to be able to shoot at once,

Great to see you haven't made the mistake of having the KGL Represented as Redcoated linesmen speaking English to the 95th,

And don't forget the 5th's Line Companies would never defend the farm itself, their task was to provide cover for the withdrawing 1st, 2nd, 5thL, 95th, and Luneburg infantry that had to run away, and then got cut down for their trouble, Prince of Orange did nothing wrong, nor did Alten, the 5th's orders made perfect sense. the 8th did get sent forward to support the Light battalions earlier in the day though, so if you want some line representation that isn't the Feldbattalion von Luneburg, you can include a handful of 8th

overall veeeeri nice, and have a photo of my KGL Officer I painted up earlier in the year, i might improve it a bit after looking at all these painted models

Thank you kindly  for explaining all that  -   I use this resource  for  uniform colours, its interesting  because the British all had slightly different shades  of London Grey  like a mid Grey,    but interesting  what you said about the 8th Line KGL  guess  they can be  included  as there uniform is identical to that of the 5th Line.
