Oh this is a pleasant suprise. I am in the Dutch Military Academy Tambour Corps, which isn't much more than a Drummer band.
We do occasional performances at civilian festivals (local only) and some national stuff, such as the 'Avondvierdaagse', where we do musical backing of the hikers
At the academy itself we do the obvious military marching music, accompanying anything from platoon to battalion to regiment sise (entire academy). Unfortunately we do not practice much drill so sometimes the quality leaves a little to be desired and especially because of the way the Academy is organised, we get new people once every half year.

Yes hello
I was in a marching band that did competitions with a 240+ band size and we played music like Happy, Carry on my wayward son, and Georgia on my mind.
Does anyone have a source for free music sheets for some tambour marches? We can always use some.
Hell we could trade.

No, as in drums only.
Kewl. It's hard to find new shit just on the interwebs as almost all of it is copyrighted and/or only available when you fucking buy it.
Oi, percussionist in a marching band right here! :D I focus on snare drum, but cymbals, bass drum and glockenspiel also works.
Our band is called "Norrköpings Ungdomsmusikkår" which translates to "Youth Music Corps of Norrköping". We play sitting down, standing up and of course while marching! Here's a picture of us from 1st of May this year:I'm the 1st drummer from the left.Spoiler(https://norrkopingsungdomsmusikkar.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/img_2220.jpg?w=604)[close]

Cool cool. So you guys do pipe drums more? We do the regular traditional ones mainly because that's what Swedish styled marching music requires. Here's an example of that noise with our middle march:Spoilerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYYTZDe5ja8&t=15s[close]

You guys' steps are double what is easy to march with. The last gus in the unit will be running a fucking marathon.
Yeah, bro. I know. Keep in mind that tempos are different in some countries. I would also like to point out that some of us are not the tallest. The main reason behind us marching so wonky here is because the percussion section started rushing like hell when we began, so it just went that way. There are several triplets in the middle march that have special accents that are hard to get right and keep tempo at the same time. In conclusion: We're not the best band. We contain mostly of youths, and we play for fun. :DCool cool. So you guys do pipe drums more? We do the regular traditional ones mainly because that's what Swedish styled marching music requires. Got a booklet from my tambour-maître today, to practice the drum roll to beat during the raising of the flag. It has all the original Dutch drum calls in it. Really interesting stuff, although it's from 1971 =DEven cooler. :o

Unfortunately there are very few drum calls. Most are for Trumpet or Bugle.
The list for drum calls is:
- Wilhemus (20 seconds for raising the flag)
- Parade march at 80bpm
- Opening and closing of a ceremony where a royal decree is read.
- Banner march at 75bpm
- Honour drum roll (usually done when a general is speaking at a ceremonial setting, the number of rolls representing the number of stars of the general's rank)
- Standing at attention
- Assembly
- Tattoo
These are the official drum calls for the Dutch army. I am trying to find some historical ones tha they used in battle, but it's a challenge to find
Our regulation book has all trumpet (most of them are for trumpet) and drum calls in military use, not many of them either way. I believe some even date back to 18th century.
Personally can play all the drum calls, most common marches and cadences in our use with drums, however not a band member. Ended up being an FO in the wish of shorter training time and not having guts enough to go through the tests for military bands.
As a fan of especially military music, been many (voluntarily) times at concerts of my brigade's band for example. Next stop would be going to see "Tattoo" events.
FUCKIN NERDSSpoilerjk I play like 6 instruments[close]
