Königlich Bayerisches 13. Infanterie-Regiment „Franz Joseph I., Kaiser von Österreich und Apostolischer König von Ungarn“
Asserting Bavarian Dominance with Long Names since forever.
An "Iron Europe" Regiment sponsored by your friend, Hoffmann

Geschichte

The 13th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment was formed on the 10th of July, 1806 during the Napoleonic era as the 14th Line Infantry regiment based in Ingolstadt and Ansbach. It saw combat in the Napleonic Wars against Prussia, Austria, Russia, and finally against France. The name, "Franz Josef (insert titles here)" was given to the regiment, as well as the numbering of the 13th on the 1st of October,1851.

Following this, the 13th experienced some fighting in the 1866 war against Prussia, fighting on the side of Austria. This led directly into their participating of fighting WITH Prussia against France in the Franco Prussian War(1870-1871), where the regiment experienced heavy fighting around Lougny, Poupry, and Orleans. The Regiment also participated in the siege of Paris at the end of the war and was the first regiment stationed in the Longwy fortress in Alsace-Lorraine.

During the first world war, the regiment experienced unbelievably heavy fighting in some of the most serious engagements of the war. The regiment served in the battles of Verdun, Frontiers, all three battles of the Somme, Arras, Passchendaele, and the 1918 German Spring Offensive. The regiment continued fighting the war up until the very end and its Division(VI RBD) was rated as one of the very best German divisions by Allied officers and intelligence.

99th Regiment of Foot

History
The 99th was raised in 1824 by Major-General Gage John Hall. It spent many years in Britain's colonies, before being posted to Australia, then sent to New Zealand, fighting in the Battle of Battle Hill.
In 1856, the regiment was sent back to the British Isles, spending years at various garrisons in Ireland. It was then sent to India in 1859, fighting in the Second Opium War.
It was then sent, for three years, in 1865 to South Africa. It was sent back to South Africa after going to England, to take part in the Anglo-Zulu War.Assigned to Lord Chelmsford's column, they marched to the relief of British forces under Colonel Charles Pearson besieged by the Zulu impis. At the Battle of Gingindlovu, the 99th helped defeat a Zulu impis which tried to overrun the British while laagered.[11] Although it would not participate in the final battle at Ulundi, the 99th was honoured for its service in Anglo-Zulu War, being awarded the battle honour South Africa 1879.
