Hello All!
I do not own any reenactment equipment or have ever attended an Historical Reenactment but, i've always been interested in buying stuff and attending things in the future…
Therefore I wanted to ask all of you: "Where can I find historical equipment?"
I would prefer Napoleonic Wars age stuff and American Civil war stuff…

You need to be part of a group/unit. You can't just walk into an event and participate as a reenactor. You need to be covered by insurance, you need to have a unit to fall in with etc.
Where are you from? Specific countries and states/provinces, then we can start looking at units for you, and they can point you in the direction of good sutlers (dealers in reenactment goods).

Ohhhh Makes sense! I am currently out of the states (parents work and stuff) I am actually from NM :-[ :P but since i'm 17 and almost going to College so I might be in a different state, probably like California…

California, you would be best talking to Millander, if I'm correct he lives in California, he does ACW, both Union and Confederate.

Your best bets in terms of groups I suppose are 21e and 3e, 21e is very active and 3e appears quite active but I don't know anything about them. Best send them emails with all the questions you have.
If you need sites for Napoleonic gear just say so.

Yeah, first off join a group, they'll be able to give you all the pointers you need equipment wise, plus you can loan stuff till you're all set!

I highly recommend you avoid Napoleonic in US. I know i may carry an nasty attitude toward to napoleonics for being so farby. But this statement has nothing to do with that. I swear. ACW would be the best experience for you in US, there is a large community, cheaper uniform (still expensive if going authentic but with Napoleonic, its either cosplay qualtiy crap or super duper stuff you must bring to a tailor to get it done, while ACW has shittons of sutlers at your choice). There are more ACW events than NW events in US, you will find events more bigger and there are plently of authentic units you can join while there isn't any authentic napoleonic unit in the US. Well there is one, coldstream guards but they're in Wisc. I personally know the unit commander and i can guartnee his quality is superb. GG brent <3
But anyway, california? Forget it. Napoleonic will be such a waste of your money and time. Unless you are truly dedicated to the Napoleonic cause and willing to blow your money to be authentic, go for it because being farby in napoleonic make you look like a clown easily.

If you're looking to get in the hobby in general and don't have a strong preference for NW, I recommend getting into a cheaper hobby (especially out west where the scene is smaller) such as ACW or WWII.
Also, I recommend joining a unit before you do your buying. As I've said to everyone, the most important purchases will be your boots, hat, and your jacket. No matter what time period you're doing. Make sure you throw down the money to get higher quality of those, since those can make or break your impression (or your feet, in my case. I bought cheap ACW boots and they constantly eat my socks and absolutely wreck my feet. They're also falling apart.)
