The french `surrender` chant...
« on: January 21, 2013, 02:17:49 pm »
Hey i know i am not the only one who feels this way..

but in general i love the `p` surrender chants they are hillarious and the russians are the funniest.. they sound like they are having a nervous breakdown.

However -- the french ones are terrible  `general`....  i mean come on they sound really bad is there any way of changing them?
one sounds like `general`  and the other is `on sovant`...  or something

Je me rends - I surrender
On se rends! - We surrender

The only stupid thing they say is "la Garde meurt mais ne se rend pas!" - The Guard dies but does not surrender; which makes little sense when you still stick up your arms.

Aye, it would be nice (Though impossible to code) if the French (Guard) Grenadiers yelled that and didn't raise their hands to surrender.

But old guard surrended only one time, at the end of the battle of Waterloo and the surrender of the guard means the end of Napoleon  :'(

But old guard surrended only one time, at the end of the battle of Waterloo and the surrender of the guard means the end of Napoleon  :'(

The brass of the Old Guard never surrenders, i.e. the 1er Grenadiers and Chasseurs. The 2e didn't surrender either, but they did break and retreat, although the 1-4e Grenadiers and Chasseurs were officially 'Old Guard' during previous campaigns only the 1er was considered ' Old Guard ' Thus the rest should be ranked as ' Middle Guard '. Additionally the Guard like the rest of the french ar,y was in a terrible state ( As you'll find in several french and Prussian accounts, rarely do the British ones tell the truth ) yet the 1er withdrew in squares and routed several British dragoon squadrons.

The Old Guard Infantry Never Surrendered, period. Although the Guard Dragoons and Horse Chasseurs had a few blunders, the Horse Grenadiers and Guard Lighthorse Lancers never lost a single combat, infact the Horse Grenadiers were surrounded by Russian Hussars and Cossacks during the 1807 campaign, and when asked if they wished to surrender the reply was " Take a look at these faces, does it look like these men want to surrender? " And so they hacked and slashed their way back to french lines. IF there has ever been such a thing as a super soldier than your best bet is the OG :D

I have a feeling however that the officer reputed to say "la Garde meurt mais ne se rend pas!" or "merde," depending on the account did in fact surrender. Therefore I suspect that FSE put it in as a bit of a joke.

Or maybe on the basis of assuming most players do not speak french and wont understand what it means :)
