Title: Removing the animation has killed a LOT of fun - please put it back
Post by: fanofie on February 15, 2014, 05:06:40 pm
I really dont want this to be lost amongst 1000 random useless suggestions in the official thread. I just want to say its a big shame that the surrender animation/chant was left out of the mod. It is hardly a big thing to do, to have kept it in. and if it is a case of needing a free key, well i would give up the fix bayonet or somethign like that for the surrender animation anyday.

It just kills off most of the light hearted fun and role play that you can have on nw servers, and it is such a shame.
I know people will say oh well its not supposed to be like nw, but thats not the point.
Not everybody just wants to go on a server to kill and shoot, many people like to come on with their friends, roleplay and things like that. That is what made NW so popular, as appose to warband where it just is really about killing.

Really hope the devs will put back in the surrender animation on the next patch. I know i am not the only one saying this, but it really does take away a lot of fun.

Thank you for the suggestion, and you you just made me think of creating a "Suggestions" topic. Your proposal will be taken into consideration

There was nearly no surrender by single soldiers in WW1. So the surrender animation would be useless.

Maybe just make it a salute animation then?

A medic call would be great.

A salute or 'rally to me' animation would be nice.

There's no need. Medics see a medoc icon over wounded soldiers, if they aren't healing you then they're just a bad medic.

I've been playing NW since it came out, and not a single time have I honestly surrendered.

I think you should add a salute/surrender animation for the fun of it. It may be useless but it's some thing to do when you're messing around with your friends

Do the support guys with bandages see it aswell?

I just tried it and they can't, so I'd be in favour of a waving help me button.

A salute or 'rally to me' animation would be nice.

Actually after playing a bit as an Officer leading some guys in my unit, this would be super useful. Otherwise, I just sound off with my whistle.

Well if a surrender animation was added the rules would need to change to allow people to teamkill whoever surrenders. Not one step back!  :P

I never trust a man who surrenders with his weapon shouldered. ;)

Surrendering was not really an option during the First World War, so I don't see why you want the surrendering animation back? If you surrendered, or you were a coward; you'd be shot by your own side.

If they did however add the surrendering animation back into Iron Europe, then the server rules would have to change so like you are allowed to teamkill surrendering team mates for basically being a coward. :P

That's not true. The only time the soldiers themselves surrendered was when one of the sides charged an enemied trench. The problem was that most of the men were so feared and angry that they did not make many prisoners. Also it was really dangerous to have a captured enemy with you on the battlefield. You were slow and could easily get captured yourself.
But if you surrendered, your side was mostly overrun and there was none left to shoot you for cowardice.

Could we get all the 'Mah people didn't surrender in WW1!'-crap out? They did. In every war people surrendered. Whether they got shot after doing so is a completly different story.

Surrendering is not the same as cowardice in the face of the enemy, by the way.

You don't get an instant shot in the head by your comrade if you put up your hands.

How about those 92 000 Russians at Tannenberg? Surrendering was clearly an option for them, and they were not shot by their own side.

Surrendering for the single soldier in close combat was no good option, but in big units surrenders happened often when they got cut off (like at Tannenberg).

@ xanderman  - why do you care if people want  a bit of light hearted fun.  not everybody just wants to mele and kill.   does it make you mad when you see people not fighting?   or are you one of these groupfighting admins who perm ban anybody on sight that does not have a regiment tag because it means they are automatically a troll right?
you take this game so seriously.   its the whole point that this game is very much a role play kind of game and not a bang bang shoot em up, that has made the mount blade series so popular in the first place.

Mmm, I think the Mount and Blade game has been so popular because of the awesome melee system, and while I can't speak for anyone else, I do get annoyed when I see people surrendering and not being killed if they're last man standing (if they aren't the last on their team, I don't really care as long as they get killed in the end) because the point of the game is the fighting. It is very much a hack and slash game, just with more depth and less polish than the average one, which is what makes it so endearing, and people delaying (that is what they're doing, delaying) prevents people that are dead from getting back into the action.

***I am of course referring only to Battle mode, in other modes where you have more than one life in a round, I really don't care how you play.***

Mate I'm not that serious about this game and I love having light hearted fun as much as the next guy but when your light hearted fun starts to impede on my enjoyment of the game that's when I get mad. Because musicians and surrenders are basically one less gun or bayonet for the team which puts said team at a disadvantage. Like Killington said this is a multiplayer game that revolves around killing the enemy and if that isn't your thing then I believe 'HelloKitty Online' is the game for you.

Telling somebody to play <conceived casual game here> is a the Gamer Godwin.

I don't want anyone on these forums accusing people of being casual gamers or telling people to go play <game they consider beneath them> because it is childish.

If somebody has a different playing style just accept it and move on. I believe your original point has been made I honestly doubt they are going to change their mind in this kind of argument.

Is that a new rule, are we not allowed to discuss anything anymore?

I don't recall ever stating this.

Insulting people is not discussion. I'm asking people to be considerate and not insult people, especially using the topic of the thread as an excuse to do it. This includes people playing styles when it comes to the game or any games in general. Be nice.

Well I apologise for using the gamer Godwin. But if I may say I never knew that was a rule on these forums.

It is instigating an argument. He isn't going to 100% agree with you and act all friendly with the following line now:

Quote
Like Killington said this is a multiplayer game that revolves around killing the enemy and if that isn't your thing then I believe 'HelloKitty Online' is the game for you.

Had you ended it there after killing the enemy that'd be fine. But you took a step too far with the last half of that sentence.

When did calling someone a casual gamer become an insult?

Since we all developed our brains and remembered that our sedimentary hobby is pretty much a hobby. It is a dumb label and a bad insult.

I think the developers have gotten the message you guys want something in the surrender animations place and will see to it in the future. Suggest this to them in the stickied suggestion thread for now.
