Regiments / 75th Regiment of foot (Abercromby's Highlanders)
« on: March 23, 2014, 01:44:03 pm »

The 75th regiment of foot is a regiment dedicated to giving you a great gaming experience. We are aiming to become the greatest and friendliest  regiment ever created. That's where we need You! we wont to provide with fun, and a variety of events, and of course, games. We need you to help the regiment achieve these goals, nothing can be done by just one person, but together we can create something epic!

India
WHILE Major-General Sir Archibald Campbell was appointed Colonel of the 74th, the colonelcy of its coeval regiment, the 75th, was conferred on Colonel Robert Abercromby of Tullibody. He had commanded a light infantry brigade during six campaigns in the American war; and as several companies of this brigade had been composed of the light infantry of theHighland regiments then in America, the colonel was well known to the Highlanders, and had acquired an influence among them rare enjoyed by officers born south of the Grampians. There are instances, no doubt, such as those of the Marquis of Montrose and Viscount Dundee, and others of modem date, "where Highland corps have formed attachments to officers not natives of their country, and not less ardent than to the chiefs of old;" and if the instances have been few, it must be attributed entirely to want of tact in officers themselves,
who, from ignorance of the Highland character, or from some other cause, have failed to gain the attachment of the Highland soldiers.

From personal respect to Colonel Abercromby, many of the Highlanders who had served under him in America, and had been discharged at the peace of 1783, enlisted anew, and, with about 300 men who were recruited at Perth, and in the northern counties, constituted the Highland part of the regiment. According to a practice which then prevailed, of firing the headquarters of a regiment about to be raised in the neighbourhood of the colonel’s residence, if a man of family, the town of Stirling was appointed for the embodying of the 75th; and here,
accordingly, it first assembled in June 1788, and immediately thereafter proceeded to England, and embarked for India, where it arrived about the end of that year.

For eighteen months after its arrival in India, the regiment was subjected to extreme severity of discipline by one of the captains, who appears to have adopted the old Prussian model for his rule. A more unfortunate plan for destroying the morale of a Highland regiment could not have been devised, and the result was, that, during the existence of this discipline, there were more punishments in the 75th than in any other corps of the same description. But as soon as the system was modified by the appointment of an officer
who knew the dispositions and feelings of the Highlanders, the conduct of the men improved.

The regiment took the field in 1790, under the command of Colonel Hartley, and in the two subsequent years formed part of the force under Major-General Robert Abercromby, on his two marches to Seringapatam. The regiment was also employed in the assault on that capital in 1799, the flank companies having led the left columns.  From that period down to 1804, the regiment was employed in the provinces of Malabar, Goa, Goojerat, and elsewhere, and in 1805 was with General Lake’s army in the disastrous attacks on Bhurtpoor.

The regiment was ordered home in 1806; but such of the men as were desirous of remaining in India were left behind. In 1809 there were not one hundred men in the regiment who had been born north of the Tay; on which account, it is believed, the designation was at that time changed.

Von Alten's avatars

hey guys, I'm Von Alten, and if you need any Avatars for threads or other things, fill in my application below. I get the uniforms of a French site. All the uniforms are historically accurate, and are from the Battle of Waterloo. note, I am rubbish at using Paint.net, so cannot edit any of the Uniforms. the works this French person does are amazing, so he deserves the credit, not me. the link to his website: (English Translation) http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?from=&to=en&a=http%3A%2F%2Fcentjours.mont-saint-jean.com%2Findex.php

68th New York Volunteers

68th New York Volunteer Infantry regiment

"the faithful"

The 68th's history
The 68th New York volunteer infantry regiment served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
Also known as the Cameron Rifles or the Second German Rifle Regiment, the men were mostly German immigrants.
Organized in July 1861, three months after the outbreak of war, the 68th saw service in the Eastern and Western theaters.
As a part of the Army of the Potomac, it was initially assigned to the defenses of Washington, D.C.
Later, the 68th was transferred to the Shenandoah Valley and fought at the Battle of Cross Keys.
The men of the 68th were then reassigned to central Virginia and found themselves in the thick of
the fighting at Second Bull Run. After returning to the nation's capital, the regiment fought in
Chancellorsville and was routed by Confederate forces. At Gettysburg,
they saw battle on two of the three days and took heavy losses.
On July 22, 1861, the United States War Department authorized Robert J. Betge to raise
a volunteer infantry regiment in New York. the regiment was mainly composed of German
Immigrants , so was called the second german rifles as well.Accepted into service on August 19,
the 68th left New York the next day, traveling by train from Perth Amboy, New Jersey to
Washington, D.C., to join the brigade of Brigadier General Louis Blenker in the Army of the Potomac.
Blenker was a German immigrant himself, a refugee of the Revolutions of 1848, and many
of the units under his command were heavily German-American. Encamped at Roach's Mills,
Virginia, the 68th served in the defence of Washington..

This regiment is a partly historical , fun and relaxed BcoF regiment that branches of from various regiments and clans I have been in. we are a Union regiment who accept EU/NA members of any age and experience. as I said before , we are a relaxed regiment , but we want to have fun by using historically accurate formations etc. we currently have 2 companies-Line and Light. we do hope to expand on this , and anybody interested in creating a cavalry or artillery company add me on steam!
