A big thanks to Deofuta for originally making this thread over on Taleworlds (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,234316.0.html). My task is just to bring this over here and to try and improve this thread however I can.
Hello everyone, this thread is my attempt at trying to give a simple aid into improving ones regiment for the purposes of recruitment. I will try to go from the more simple and easy to implement ways to more complex and longer reaching solutions. If you have a suggestion feel free to check in and if it's a good one I'll be happy to add it to the list.
At its heart regimental recruitment is a mix of factors. Nominally the composition of the regimental command, the composition of the regiment itself, and public presentation that is made. The first two factors are what I would consider 'bedrock' factors, they are the foundation of what the regiment is built on, and also the most difficult to change once it is established. Because of this I will focus on the third factor, public presentation, although I may approach some of the other two later on. This is something that is vary malleable;easy to change and fix if necessary. It is presentation that can separate the smaller regiments from the larger powerhouse regiments.
So, on to the list.
1. Recruiting in game. This is the easiest way to reach the largest number of new players possible. Keep in mind though that impressions are very important, and most often this will be the first one in terms of new players, if not other regiments. Do not spam recruit! It looks sloppy and desperate. Try and organize your members to come on together, play together, and do well together. This leads to leaving impressions on the public that will be favorable if they end up looking for a regiment to join. I personally enjoy waiting until one of my guys does particularly well, leaving benchmarks for them to hit and then adding a message that perhaps joining my regiment will get you the skills to do as well. The last Impression I want to leave here is that you need to make sure the image that you create is a positive one. This means being respectful to the other players. Do not bicker in chat, or extend game time by sitting in the back and waiting for the round to whittle down. Be creative, lead an assault with a sword held high and spamming the war call all the way in. Being charismatic and enjoyable to play with can go a long way to improving recruitment.
2. The forum regimental thread. Essentially, it needs to be good. Our community is lucky to be very centralized when it comes to the regiments. Almost every regiment can be found to have a presence on this forum. Your own regimental thread will be a meeting place for regimental leaders, regimental members, and more importantly, players looking for a regiment. This will be the place you should be sending interesting parties to get them to enlist. It should look professional, like some serious effort was put into it, because people will look at that thread and make direct connotations to how the regiment is. The thread is sloppy? The regiment is probably sloppy as well.
3. Videos and other creative outlets. I also called it Propaganda, as it is fully intended to spin your regiment in a positive light. If you have someone with some video editing skills and a youtube account, go nuts! There are few assets for recruitment that are better than someone who is good at editing and willing to take on a fun project for his CO. Making enjoyable videos has spawned interest in the mod itself by the thousands. Look no further than the Reddit Brigade, one of the largest NW interest communities, which spawned after a popular video made by a group called the BAB ran around its site. There are several regiments who use videos in fantastic ways to encourage people who otherwise may never have heard of the game join up and enlist.
4.Recruitment Incentives. This method is better for a regiment that has manged to get a few solid members. Give awards for bringing in set increments of friends, 5 20 and 20 perhaps. A popular method used by some regiments is to award medals on their website, or perhaps even on their Taleworlds thread. However, I would strongly recommend against using recruitment as a way to advance in rank beyond enlisted. Giving an important position to someone should always be a matter of capability.
5. Creating and maintaining a regiment website. Although small regiments can get away with using only the taleworlds thread and the 22nd teamspeak, if you want to expand you absolutely need to improve your ability for communications and logistics. Keeping track of a medium to large regiment is work, and you need a place to focus that attention and communication. Regiment Websties offer a place to keep attendance, organize recruitment, prepare for events, issue medals, the list goes on. There are hosting companies that offer free services for groups like regiments, by far the most popular of which is enjin.com (http://enjin.com).
More to come in the future.

I tried and nothing much works for Ex: I get 17-0 on the scoreboard then do some recruitment message typing and lead a few charges and nothing much pops up besides that....
-
I've been recruiting my ass off lately for the RNF but I still only have the 2 guys I started with.
-
New guys in most cases start of joining large established regiments. Sadly because of this most of the time new regiments do not grow up to become large aNd established.best way is to start with like 10 active guys and work from there.

Great Guide Furrnox. Coming from someone that has watched the 12e grow to a 100+ man NA regiment in one month, It came down to two things. One, willing to put in the time to recruit and two, recruiting in the right places at the right times. For the first 3 weeks of the 12e, I would hit 84e Siege or 33rd Siege server at 10 EST to 2 am. I have found that these servers are still heavily populated at these times and all the EU players would be asleep leaving the new NA players who have to play siege because they just saw a Malakith video on youtube. I have succeeded to get 10+ recruits in one night. Once we reached about 60 people, We were able to keep a populated TDM server for about a week. This allowed the 12e to become a regiment that averaged 25-30 regularly. Lets just say Na 1 is not the place to recruit.

Thanks for bringing this here Furrnox ;D

I can never stay up that long to recruit on siege servers....

I Just wish someone would make a server for recruiting and call it recruitment server so people will know it is for that if i can at some point i will do that because i am sick of the way i have to recruit now it most of the time get you nowhere but someone please make a server called recruiting server or a server with a similar name please.

Spiffing guide old chap, bang on!

Its harsh times to recruit.. Many are waiting for Mount and Blade Bannerlords 2 instead ( in my opinion ) :(
If Steam puts Mount and Blade Warband + Napoleonic wars on 50 % then we can recruit! :)
-
They did that like what a week ago?
-
Yes they did, was a really good time! 10 recruits each day. Now all those who bought the game got recruited.
-
Stop complainin'.
Its just a game, your meant to have fun, not want the most amount of people :)

That might lead to scuffles between regiments when 2-3 regiments (or even more) are all recruiting in the same server at the same time.. we really don't need that.
I find the best way to recruit new members is appearing professional and ordering the members of your regiment to do the same, even when just randomly playing alone in EU1.
Sadly, this behaviour needs work on the regiment I'm in :(

Bless all regiments, recruiting on public servers.
Only way to get fresh blood in here.
Keep hanging on. :)

Your regiment's names is the 88y. I don't think people would want to join you in the first place.

Yes, I was. We had about 20-25 active members. I have a couple screenshots of it as well. The name was unique. There was nobody in NW who ever had a name like that. However, the 88y is clearly thought of because of how close it was to 77y. There is a difference.

Not that, I just remember the 15th Vistula when I first started playing the game :P That was when I created my first regiment (MoskovGren is my second) the 1y SemGuard

40th is 2 numbers away from the 42nd, why would anyone want to join black watch wannabes.

British names are different considering there are alot less "good" names left. I took the 40th name because of their history at Waterloo along with the name itself. "40th" roles off the tongue nicely if I do say so myself. However, there are considerably less Russian regiment out there. So if someone takes the name "88y" it clearly tells me that they did not attempt to make themselves unique because of how close it is to "77y". Literally there are dozens of other Russian names out there to take.
-
Ah, British names are different, I would disagree, as you are simply basing your judgement on the name of the regiment and literally nothing else, you have no idea what the history of the 88y is, or why the leader chose that name. you ASSUME that he wanted to be like the 77y, just as easily as I may assume that you are trying to be like the 42nd. You don't know the person, and you don't know their regiment, so lay off. And even if you did, there is no reason to be a huge cock for no reason. Internet elitism isn't very cute.

Also Locust, I disagree, you may not know very well how the Imperial Russian Military worked back in the day, but almost all Infantry, Calvary and Artillery regiments were not numbered. So him picking a number in the counting system does not hint in any way he is affiliated with copying the 77y. He could have picked 44y, it does't make it anymore right, the regiments were separated by their provisions and battalions.
-
Yeah, that's a perfectly valid point Ody. But I still believe this guy is a 77y fan boy for taking a name so similar to 77y. Anyway, its clear this is going to become a bitch fight and I don't feel like getting warned by the Moderators-again. So lets agree to disagree.
-
I'm not arguing your point. I don't give a shit about that, I care about how you are making it.
-
God damn, your having a shit talking spree on a forum post about how to improve recruiting. Here's a plan, quit saying every other insult or mindset you have whether or not it's because you think a guys with the regiment named 88y or 42nd are people trying to be fan boys. If you just let it be what it is at face value which is a regiment with a name and a plan maybe that will help your recruitment automatically. HOLY SHIT, it's amazing isn't it? Just knowing if you stopped putting in your 2 cents everywhere makes a difference. Now lets stop this senseless argument or point validation about who's being a fan boy and who's just being a dick. Respect everyone and their decisions on their regiment, it's not yours anyways so stop caring so much.

It would be better if instead of so many small inexperienced and disorganized units poping up under brand new commanders, these same commanders formed platoons or companies within large and successful regiments so that the new leaders had mentors and role models to live up to and learn from. This would also help maintain certain standards of professionalism that this community desperately needs, as well as diminish the frequency of small 8 man lines snake-ing around the map like skirmishers or some damn thing. All the same, I advise all prospective officers to have served at a ranker level for at least a year or two in a respectable unit before considering forming a new unit of their own.

While i totally agree with you on this (the BC it's self is currently offering this) as an event hoster i have to say that those little 8 man lines are lifesavers sometimes, without them balance is often really awkward!

One method I oft use to gain new recruits is rather than recruit them on the spot and directly; invite them to trial with your regiment as an unsigned mercenary. This way they can see what your regiment has to offer before officially joining, and it also gives you a chance to see if they're right for your regiment, and visa-versa.
I've used this and often I've found that someone I was intending to recruit was not appropriately suited to my regiment, so I declined them from joining because of their behaviour / attitude towards the game.
One good egg is worth three rotten ones, I always say.
-
Hello. As I consider myself as a experienced guy, and was an officer in few regiments, also col, I think I might give you few decent advices.
1. Choose the fuckin best name. THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS CARD. First thing, potential cadet see is your name. Do not seek for never used one, or even worse don't even try to seek for some "interesting, unknown regiment". Name should be glorious!
92nd name is great because of Waterloo movie. That scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH8AqTWFs9k (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH8AqTWFs9k) made this name better than 42nd. Despite fact that 42nd and 3rdFG were a bit better regiments, imao.
It's easier to recruit when you're 2nd Coldstream than 2nd Zulu infantry. That should be so obvious, but it's not. That's why some too much creative people all the time seek for some regiments I never heard about them. Cuz then my reaction is like : https://youtu.be/tbrETiALUIQ?t=48s (https://youtu.be/tbrETiALUIQ?t=48s)
2. Merits. Good NCO is recruiting NCO. If you're Colonel, you should asap introduce merits system. 100 merits = lvl up. One invited guy= 20 points. Don't worry about amount of Cpls. You'll still have much more rankers.
3. Videos. Recruiting on the servers. Etc... It might help. But if your regiment will be fuckin 0, and your only goal would to be command, train formations and get rekt, so you should asap disband it, and do not waste time of some people anymore. Aim high! Discipline is vital, and winning is sense of this game.
Create great teamspeak 3 community, and great team in game. Regiment where everyone would like to be. Then, recruits will come to you.
4. If your regiment is shit... Disband it, do not ask some guys to join it cuz you'll waste their time. Pro tip.
