Welcome to Season 7 of the North American Napoleonic Wars League!

We're back again to engage the North American community in competition that is fun and exciting.
We will once again see regiments battle each other to prove their worth and display their skill to the NA community.

Before you read the rest of this post, I must make a statement on recent events to dispel any rumors that may be in circulation concerning the running of Season 7 NANWL. Very recently, there was a takeover attempt of NANWL Season 7 that failed. To remove any doubt from anyone's mind, there is no official information source for NANWL outside of these forums other than our Steam group. We have no external website. The only information you should trust comes from myself, the moderators or from the Season 7 event threads. The individuals involved were misled and I maintain, as I always have, that those individuals are free to apply for available positions in NANWL; prior issues will not be held against them.

One other thing that I want to stress is that I do not "own" NANWL. It belongs to the community and they deserve to have their voice heard in the major happenings of NANWL. To be fair and just is to be open and accountable, not closed off and unwilling to change for the betterment of everyone. That has to start from the very top. It is for that reason that I am not part of any regiment that is participating in Season 7. This is to elminate any possible conflict of interest among competing regiments. It is my opinion that it is dangerous to have a concentration of people from a single regiment making decisions for an event that they are actively participating in. Many others agree with that.

Credit & Attribution

The North American Napoleonic Wars League would not have made it this far if it were not for the efforts of the people who ran it before us. We must properly credit these people. Tico, Jackie Chan and Zzehth first began the intitiative to reinvigorate the competitive side of the North American community with Season 1. The latter two carried that enthusiasm through to the end of Season 3. Thereafter, Karth managed Season 4, Cheeseypants took over Season 5, with Windflower seeing it to completion. Season 6 was headed up by SintraBean in a time of uncertainty, initially with the help of Nathan. Throughout all seasons of NANWL, there were numerous moderators and referees that freely offered their time to help with the monumental task of running this event. I want to make sure that it does not go unstated how much work those individuals put in. Without them, the seasons would have stalled.

To make this event meaningful, we cannot forget the achievements of past winners either, and the participation of numerous regiments. Without their support and attendance, this event would not have thrived for 6 seasons.

We are starting from a fresh slate. All bans prior to Season 7 have been pardoned.
(We reserve the right to place someone back onto the ban list at any time.)

Event Rules

Many issues arose as a result of ambiguities in the NANWL ruleset that we used in Season 6. It resulted in the head administrator ammending the rules mid-season to make the required optimizations. That is not ideal and is to be avoided. Season 7's ruleset has been revised and enhanced to remove the vagueness of Season 6's rules and reduce possible friction between regiments and the referees. That is why the community will have the opportunity to view and discuss the new ruleset before Season 7 begins.

It is the responsibility of the regiment leaders to inform their members of the rules. The Season 7 revised ruleset is now open for discussion:

Staff Reformation

At various points during season 6, I mentioned that there was much we could improve to make the event smoother in terms of both communication and in-game consistency. You have our assurance that your prior concerns will be addressed for Season 7. The organization format has been slightly altered to reflect the true nature of NANWL organization. Moderators may have some management duties and referees will be required to perform some administrative duties, as well.

The board of moderators and I will discuss and vote on issues that are both deemed important by ourselves and brought to us by the community. There was a lack of this with regard to major changes in the previous season. You can be sure that from our end, we will do everything we can to accomodate your concerns. The job of referees remains largely the same as before, but some refs may be asked to take on more responsibility if the need arises.

Staff Expectations

Moderator:  Responsible for discussing and voting on all important NANWL matters. Some mods will assist the head admin with managing rosters and sign-ups. May also referee if necessary.
Referee:     Responsible for administrating matches on the official NANWL servers, verifying rosters during match prep time and recording scores on the thread and TeamSpeak after battles.

Staff Selection
Selection of moderators and referees will be based upon three factors:
  • Good, non-toxic attitude.
  • Experience and availability.
  • Record of service in the previous season is valued, but not required.
We ran Season 6 on a skeleton crew, so there's no fear in being picky this time.

Registration & Application Templates

Regiment sign-ups closed on February 3rd. Referee Sign-ups are open.

Season Start Date: February 12th, 2017

All regiments must provide a roster of the members that they intend to play in the event. Make sure that the list that you submit to us is up to date at the start of the Season. It may be easiest to submit your entire roster to avoid conflicts popping up later. Players joining the roster while the season is in progress may be subject to match restrictions depending on their status prior to joining.

GUID registration is OPTIONAL. If you wish to submit the GUIDs of your members alongside your roster, then you may do so. GUIDs make it easy for referees to verify that the people playing in the match are who they say they are. However, we will not inconvenience regiments by requiring them. Due note that providing the GUIDs will allow your roster check to proceed much faster than normal. Submitted GUIDs will be stored privately and only be accessible to moderators and referees, if that matters.

Copy and paste the respective template to a new reply and fill in the information.
(BBCode code tags are broken within tables on FSE. Please bold each item in the template before answering the question.)

Please combine multiple applications into a single post.

Sponsorship & Prizes

Our primary sponsor at the moment is Private Server Host (PSH). They are providing the 3 Chicago-based servers. Based on Season 6 demand, three servers will serve our needs fine. These are the same servers that we used last year so you can be sure that they are solid. In addition to that, PSH is once again providing a 20% recurring discount on in-game servers for regiments participating in Season 7, but have now added a 60% recurring discount on TeamSpeak servers for participating regiments, as well. Both discounts will remain active after the Season has ended.

Read the terms on the order page. The servers are limited to regimental use only. NOT for hosting public events!

In terms of prizes, Private Server Host has generously pledged a total of $200 in PSH credit that will go toward winners from different categories.

Questions should be directed to the contacts mentioned in the Main Contacts section.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Events: NA / NANWL Season 7 Information Thread [Start Date: TBA]
« on: October 25, 2016, 03:39:31 am »
Refer to the new thread for all further details:
https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/index.php?topic=34567.0

This one will remain here temporarily.

Spoiler
This thread will serve as a hub for information regarding the next season of NANWL. Once details are finalized, a new thread will be created specifically for the discussion of the league season and tournament. There is much to do to reform how NANWL was previously run, so that will be the focus of the next few months. If you were a regiment leader in Season 6, expect to be contacted before the end of the year to provide feedback so that we can solve a lot of the inconsistencies that cropped up during Season 6.

Season 7 Start Date: To Be Announced
Head Administrator:  Amit
Moderators:               TBA
Referees:                   TBA

Applications for both will be available Q1 2017.

Selection of moderators and referees will be based upon three factors:
  • Good, non-toxic attitude.
  • Availability.
  • Record of service in the previous season is valued, but not required.
We ran Season 6 on a skeleton crew, so there's no fear in being picky this time.

Role Descriptions

Moderator:  Responsible for discussing and voting on all important NANWL matters. May also have management duties.
Referee:      Responsible for administrating matches on the official NANWL servers, verifying the roster of participant teams and score keeping.

There are no useless positions; everyone will be responsible for some sort of work. There are also no referee tiers this time around. All referees will be held to the same standard.

There is also one additional organization that has expressed interest in sponsoring the event, too. I will update all relevant information posts with the details once the deal is finalized.

Modifications / Skin Retexturing: How to begin and how to end?
« on: September 17, 2013, 05:29:58 am »
There appears to be a great resource of tutorials for starting a new mod project categorized by topic here, but what I'm looking for is specifically in regard to skins. I don't want to create a mod, just a simple retexture.

Let's say I wanted to replace the textures of the 33rd Regiment of Foot with different textures. What is the exact process that I would need to do in order to make that happen? How do I get them to show up in-game? What should I watch out for when making these changes? What can go wrong? How do I keep the skins up to date and working for new version of Napoleonic Wars?

Thanks for any responses.
