Can someone please explain why Belgium decided to play Verthongen at LB instead of CB together with Alderweireld? Using faster players at LB and RB would have provided more speed and width.

It's not fifa. Although Verthongen should have played at CB, it should've been because he formed a formidable partnership with Alderweireld at Spurs this season.

That is my point, make no mistake i love spurs ;) Its not the players but the tactic itself not using the RB and LB to create width in the offence.
