One Empire, One Legion, Many ways to survive
Basic Background
Spoiler
In 2025, the zombie(nuclear for Wasteland) apocalypse occurred. The U.S. military, spread thin throughout the world, spent more time fighting in other nations than on its home soil. That job was left to under trained militia and national guardsmen. The weak civil defense force fell in a few weeks as did the U.S. government. U.S. forces in other parts of the world turned to looting, banditry and mutiny with no government to restrain them. A staff sergeant from the 101st Airborne managed to escape the chaos and arrive in the U.S. Staff Sergeant Howe Grimes hijacked an airplane and flew it into central Virginia, his home state. He found his wife and son slaughtered by bandits and a toppled government. He began his journey to the surviving Canada when he came across a National Guard base. This base, leaderless, turned to the experienced Grimes for answers. Grimes assumed command as General and went out with his army of 5,000 men. Determined to settle and create a New America.

Lore and the Story line
Spoiler
Early Days of Grimes
Battle of Tuck's Cabin-In 2026, the guardsmen got their first taste of combat against a herd of zombies in Southern Virginia. 20 dead, 50 bitten and later shot. Began the march of General Grimes into the Blue Ridge Mountains for safety.
Blue Ridge Mountain Campaign(2026-2027)-A series of battles fought in the mountain range against the bandit national guardsmen of Curtis Gauge. The noise of battle eventually attracted zombies who both sides fought separately. The fighting was intense and ended in Grimes being able to escape into Southern Maryland while Gauge dealt with the zombies. 1,000 dead, 800 bitten and later shot, 500 wounded.
Rise of Grimes
Siege of D.C. (2027-2029)-With Grimes's retreat to Maryland, he decided to scout out D.C. He found the remnants of the old Government standing. What remained had fallen back to the capital and was surrounded by freshly built walls that kept zombies out. Attempting to gain entrance, the government and their army decided that Grimes was trying to overthrow and kill government workers once he entered. They denied him access to fresh supplies and safety. Therefore, Grimes laid the capital under siege. Zombie attacks on Grimes were sporadic, even with so much noise being created. The mystery to why this happened still stands today. The attrition finally got to D.C.'s army and they attacked Grimes. In a fierce battle, he destroyed the army, looted D.C. and left it in ruins. The "Old Order" as he called it, was destroyed and history was changed forever. Grimes, being the historian that he was, compared the battle to Caesar's Siege of Alesia and began comparing himself with Caesar. He began calling his army a legion and began envisioning a new American Empire, not a Republic. 2,000 dead, 5 bitten, and 400 wounded.
Establishing an Empire
Purification of Maryland (2029-2033)-
After D.C., Grimes decided to stay in Maryland after realizing the lack of zombie attacks he had in the siege. He declared the founding of the American Empire on June 28th, 2029 and made its capital Baltimore. Realizing the whole state must be secured, he began a mass purification of zombie and human alike. Humans who would not join the civilization were killed, as well as millions of zombies. 6 million zombies killed, 2,000 humans killed, 200 of Grimes men killed.

Rise of the Empire
The East War(2033-2050)-
After securing Maryland, Grimes made a declaration of war on all of the East Coast, which he aimed to conquer. Anyone who opposed his army, now called the American Legion, would die. He had gained 10,000+ recruits who fled to Maryland. He first attacked Virginia, which fell and was  purified in 2 months. Then he attack North Carolina all the way down to Florida in unison, which took 5 years. Then he planned his Northern campaign. Delaware and New Jersey fell easily but then he came to New York. NY was divided between 10k survivors and zombies. Grimes took the zombie part easily but the survivors would only accept vassalage, not total surrender and army service. Grimes attacked and the fighting lasted for 3 months. The next 12 1/2 years were spent marching north and by the end, Grimes had established an Empire zombie and bandit-free from Montreal to Miami. It was now guarded by 5 American Legions, totaling 5 million people. 100 million zombies, 70k humans, 1 million legionaries dead. An Empire was now the future of humanity. Grimes died in 2069 and had expanded as far west as the Mississippi River. The future of the Empire is unclear but one thing is certain. It has entered a Golden Age. The military is strong. Its enemies (even the zombies) are weak and it is looking to conquer...

Questions you may have...
Spoiler
1. This all seems a little directed and specific with a storyline and all, how will this affect squad and clan-based gameplay?
A: Not that much actually, while all the lore might intimidate someone, it is simply there for fun and an added effect of purpose. When we go into game, I will have certain objectives each day that pertain to army survival scenarios.
2. You have a lot of branches and positions, what if you can't fill them all?
A: While I would like to, it would also be lore-friendly the other way around as it supports this attrition idea. But if I can't, I can't and it will gradually build up to that.
3. How will you manage all this?
A: In Teamspeak, people of a specific branch will be put into a specific channel and whisper will be used to talk to commanders when we reach that point.
4. I like the traditional DayZ/WL type of gameplay, will this ruin that?
A: Not in the slightest, I have built the clan member story line around basic day to day survival and we will have to deal with issues as a depleted, desperate Legion.
