Regiments / The 58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment of Foot Recruiting!
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:23:20 pm »
History
The 58th was formed in 1755 for service during the Seven Years' War. Originally numbered the 60th Regiment of Foot, and bearing the name of its colonel, Robert Anstruther, it was re-numbered in 1757 as the 58th Regiment of Foot. In 1779, during the American War of Independence they were stationed at Gibraltar, taking part in the Great Siege from 1779 to 1783. In 1782 they acquired their county association, becoming the 58th Rutlandshire Regiment.
In the French Revolutionary Wars the 58th saw action in Egypt at the Battle of Alexandria, and Calabria, where they participated in a raid on shipping at Diamante.[1]
Later, under Wellington, they served in the Peninsular campaign. During this campaign they fought at Salamanca and at Burgos.
In 1843 the 58th regiment took over garrison duties in New South Wales from the 80th who had been posted to India. In 1845 they were sent to New Zealand because of Maori unrest in the Bay of Islands due to dissatisfaction with the Treaty of Waitangi. The regiment remained in N.Z. until November 1858 having been in action during the Northern Wars, Wanganui and north of Wellington during 1845–47. Participated in the Anglo-Zulu War in 1879. On embarkation for England, the regiment consisted of 16 officers and 194 men. Over 300 men of the regiment took discharge in New Zealand.

About us

Her Majesty s  58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment of Foot in Jan 1st 2013 for the purpose of accurately representing historic military structure and tactics of the Anglo Zulu War, to the best of our ability, and in so doing, form a tight-knit, elite Regiment of well trained, disciplined, and virtuous soldiers. Among other Regiments, we are quite unique in a number of ways. We place great emphasis on practicing accurate military structure and tactics of the British Army. Among our ranks will be found no self-proclaimed generals leading handfuls of privates, but rather meaningful structure based on the size of our unit. Furthermore, we are committed to developing and practicing tactics of the period. (as best we can) For these purposes, we are looking for intelligent, humble, and mature recruits willing and able to listen, learn, and contribute.

Expectations
Whether as a recruit, or a full-fledged soldier, our members are expected to do the following:
1) Learn and follow the Code of Conduct
2) Learn, and become proficient in basic Tactics and Skills
3) Be relatively active, attend trainings when possible, and alert a  NCO/Officer (It Must be A NCO/Officer not a low rank member otherwise will still count against you.) if you are unable to participate or are taking an extended leave.
4) Display humility, respect, and motivation.
Those who can do these four things will find themselves a good match for the 1st, and will be prime candidates for promotion should they be proficient and willing to take on leadership roles.

The 58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment of Foot was a British Army line infantry regiment.

The 58th was formed in 1755 for service during the Seven Years' War. About us
Were a new regiment looking to recreate a historical regiment for the Napoleonic wars. We are more or less a role play regiment and we play serious. It will be ran like a professional military regiment of the British Army. We use historically accurate military ranks and such. We will use commands similar to back then. Overall we plan on making this a fun regiment. Hope to see  you in the field. We also are going to be playing in the Anglo Zulu War mod. :P

Add baddude2588 on steam if interested.

Also, another thing about us is that we are the initial creators for the Anglo-Zulu War mod. :P

The Anglo-Zulu War
The History
The Anglo–Zulu War was fought in 1879 between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom. Following a campaign by which Lord Carnarvon had successfully brought about federation in Canada, it was thought that similar combined military and political campaigns might succeed with the various African kingdoms, tribal areas and Boer republics in South Africa. In 1874, Sir Henry Bartle Frere was sent to South Africa as High Commissioner for the British Empire to bring the plans into being. Among the obstacles were the presence of the independent states of the South African Republic and the Kingdom of Zululand and its army. Frere, on his own initiative, without the approval of the British governmen and with the intent of instigating a war with the Zulu, had presented an ultimatum on 11 December 1878, to the Zulu king Cetshwayo with which the Zulu king could not comply. Cetshwayo did not comply and Bartle Frere sent Lord Chelmsford to invade Zululand. The war is notable for several particularly bloody battles, including a stunning opening victory by the Zulu at Isandlwana, and the defiant victory for the British at Rorke's drift, as well as for being a landmark in the timeline of imperialism in the region. The war eventually resulted in a British victory and the end of the Zulu nation's independence.

The Mod
The Anglo Zulu war is a modification for Mount and Blade: Napoleonic wars, which seeks to bring you back to the Anglo Zulu conflict, in true Mount & Blade style. You will be able to play as the British, fighting off hordes of Zulu warriors, or play as the Zulus to drive the British from your homeland. You will use a variety of historical weapons, such as the Martini Henry Rifle, The Beaumont Adams revolver, and Zulu weapons such as clubs, spears and axes. The mod is split between Players Vs Bots and Players Vs Players, with eventual invasion style gamemodes planned for bot gameplay.
