Talk to the NaS guys, they may have a ship model that's appropriate for the era. Naval battles will be really cool if you can pull them off.
A big issue we had were the reloading animations. If you can manage to figure something out so that the Russian's old school muskets and the rest-of-the-world's new rifles don't look like they function exactly the same, you'd have a big chunk done.
It's going to be a lot of the shooting that balances the game, since we gave Russians pretty big melee stats but gave everyone else essentially nothing, which would force Russians to charge a lot and everyone else to run a lot, which in theory breaks up the shooting. That said, make sure Russia has one unit with some decent weaponry, just don't give them amazing stats in melee, and still nerf their shooting skills compared to those of the other factions. This way 1v1 engagements between regiments in a battle can be more balanced.
And some general advice: focus a lot on improving your modeling and texturing skills. A lot of people nowadays value the graphics side of these mods, since NW isn't necessarily the prettiest of games.Thank you for adwise, if I'll improve my texturing skill - I'll made better textures, I wanted to make 2048x2048 textures, but my computer is too old and can not handle it.
Factions/Units:Thank you, I think I made already my own list of units, and some of yours are there :) Later, when I'll finish the list, I'll write al the units.
Best of luck!Thank you!
Well that's certainly progress! I like the helmet model so far, could use some defining on the badge, but definitely good.
I'm sure even the best, like Docm, would agree that no modeler/texturer should be afraid to redo certain things. Unhappy with the result? Keep working on it! Fantastic so far, keep it up, and good luck. ;)
This seems very interesting. I am on sold, cant wait to see it. Good luck man :DIt seems, you will wait for long, but I hope I'll finish this mod.
No naval battles? Naval engagements in the Pacific were pretty important, the allied forces sent ships far up to the eastern coast of Russia to siege them there. It's true, but I make mod exactly about war part in Crimea, because if I'll make the whole Eastern War (1853-1856), so I must make also events in Caucasus and fighting on Donau and also Pacific campaign. But I want make it historical-correct, I have many detailed plans and description of Sevastopol fortifications and allied fortifications near Sevastopol, and making it is already pretty difficult. And also I dream of make singleplayer for this mod, and globalmap can be only Sevastopol and nearest territory, with bastions and trenches as fortresses in Native. And making naval battles is senseless after Viking Conquest or Caribbean! or NaS.
Nice to see someone take interest in this mod and try and make their own, it sure was the hot topic back then.I hope, this topic will be hot also :)
Still, the boat props would be good for waterside siege maps.Yes, I agree, but first of all I must make all uniforms and weapons and than will make maps, I noted your interest for naval maps.
n response to your question about factions, it would probably be prudent to stick to 2 factions, to start with at least. also asymmetric teams are very difficult to balance, so as a suggestion you may want to have, say 3 infantry types, one melee centric, one focused on range and one in the middle.I planned so, later will write list of units and their weapons and characteristics
If you start out with two factions, I recommend france and russia since the uniforms are fairly primary.I'll make two factions to avoid playing such rounds as Britain vs. France on Sevastopol maps, 'cause it was not in history of this war. But it does not mean that it will be only two nations, there will be all main nations who took part in Crimean war and it will be proporttional.
Putin approved. He is in banlist of mod, he's an asshole.
Realize what minor thing made NW work well: they had 5 factions, historically some allies, historically some enemies, but they could always be fighting against each other in any combination. It works well. Some events will likely want modern weaponry vs. modern weaponry, for example.
And if you're going to do it in the style of start with a few factions and add more later, like Iron Europe or MM did, make sure they're pretty flushed out factions, with some unit variety and balancing. Then, just model the other factions around them, more or less.
You could talk to this guy about making some historically accurate units for the Ottomans. I mean, finding someone willing to make them is the toughest step. ::)
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?topic=323747.0
This actually looks pretty cool!Thanks!
Please add the Connaught Rangers. :)Okay
I have always wanted Crimean war for nw. Thank you!!You're welcome :)
I feel offended about the Turkish units being "weak".No offense, but Turkey called to help Britain and France because of weakness and bad equipment of their troops. Turkey soldiers were in the worst conditions in Crimea because of their bad supply and equipment, they frozen to death in hundreds, they were often used to deliver weights from Balaclava Harbour to English camp, and it is not surprising, that in battles they or didn't take part at all, staying in reserve, and also they often flied (as example, Balaclava battle began with Turkey soldiers flied and lost cannons, and Charge of Light Brigade was purposed to re-take these lost cannons).
On a serious note, goodluck.
One thing I want to point out are the weapons used by line infantry at the time. There were a couple of different rifles used in the Crimea and the issue is balance:Thank you for suggestion, but it is not total correct: only in British army were a lot of rifles (but it didn't stopped Britain to almoust lost Inkerman battle), Turkish army had smoothbore muscets and only few rifles, it will be no Sardinians because of their late arrive to Crimea and almoust not taking part in battles.
Britain: Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket (rifled)
France: Pattern 1851 Minié rifle(rifled)
Russia: Models 1844, 45 and 55 percussion musket (Smoothbore) and some Pattern 1851 Minié rifle (rifled)
Ottomans: Models 1845 and 55 percussion musket (Smoothbore) and some Pattern 1851 Minié rifle (rifled)
Sardinia: Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle-musket and Pattern 1851 Minié rifle(both rifled)
As you can see the allied forces had more rifled weapons then the Russians had as the Russians of often only gave their foot guards the Minié rifle. This creates the obvious problem of the allies would have the advantage in a pitch gun battle due to their rifles. This would need to be carefully balanced so has to not under power the allies and not to over power the Russians.
Well I think in line battles admins could address this by giving Russians superior positions or you could make Russian classes faster with melee and more dangerous up closeI think balance is not such big problem and it can be solved pretty simply :)
I'm searching for sripters, who can help me with this mod
I have a lot of ideas for mod, but without good scripter I doubt I can realize it.
Some ideas for realisation:Spoilerfor Commander battle mode:
- add bot-musician to squad, and make him play signals when player gives orders
- make bots able to execute such commands as "to the right", "to the left", "turn around"
- make bot-controlled cannons and add to artillery squad artillery crew with 3 bots per cannon, so player only commands where they must shoot
- add artillery train with 6 horses and 3 bots on them
- add stamina (and also add ability to take off bags for more speed and stamina but less defense)
for Siege and other modes
- add female healers - Dasha Sevastopolskaya for Russians and Florence Nightingale for Allies, maybe make field hospitals, maybe add stretchers to carry wounded and to increase limit of defenders
- "mine warfare" - allied sappers can dig tonnels and try to blow up bastions, and russian sappers can dig counter-tonnels to blow up allied tonnels. Craters from explosions infantry can use as shelter
- make ability to move cannons on foot, not only with artillery train
- maybe make for rifles fixable bayonets
- powder magazines, from where can fill ammo for muskets and cannons, but they can explode if it will be hitted by bomb
- add ability to creep (it it will be imbalance, so add it only for foot cossacks and zouaves)
And a lot of smaller changes I don't remember now.[close]
Some of these features are already in other mods, some I can try to make on my own, but most of them need help of good scripter.
So, I really hope someone will help me with these scripts, 'cause without new features it will be another NW, just with new costumes, and I don't really like it.
Also I will appreciate any other help, there is a lot of work and will be enough for everyone :)
Good luck! Also, i wanna play as a cossack : DThanks! As mounted cossack or as foot cossack (plastun)? :)
Can you add Finnish guard as a unit for Russian faction? :PSorry, but Russian guard didn't take part in Crimean war, so I can not add this regiment. Besides, all Russian army used the same uniform in that period - they all weared greatcoats, so visual difference between regiments was minimal.
He said Finnish, not Russian.Finland was a part or Russian Empire till 1917, so he probably meant Finland Guard Regiment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland_Guard_Regiment) or Finland Guard Shooter Battalion, but these regiments weren't in Crimea.
Well Finns fought in Crimean war and for an example crushed British landing in Raahe. They even took a British boat as a trophy and the Brits even nowdays can't stand for it. https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nKs_Nu-hG9c/VFeNKu5SkvI/AAAAAAAAA0U/HTPkDjZekDI/s1600/IMG_2786.JPG Here's the picture of the boatIndeed, Finns (as example Finland Shooter Battalion, but it wasn't ethnic Finnish, like Bluehawk said) fought in North in several combats and defended Baltic Coast, but it was not major episode of war.

Great looking skins and models, love a Crimean War idea, good luck! Thanks!
Why not both mounted and foot ones? (i'm not saying i want a dragoon unit, anyway i want to be able to be both rider and both infantry separately)There will be three kinds of cossacks - Ural cossacks (they with United Uhlan regiment repelled famous attack of Light Brigade at Balaclava), Don Cossacks Artillery (Light Brigade attacked their cannons) and Black Sea Foot Cossacks (Plastuns) - these were sharpshooters and scouts and they teached many soldiers and sailors how to be good scouts (sailor Petr Koshka (Cat) learned all of the Plastuns), and they also were in Balaclava battle (they repelled charge of French Chasseurs d'Afrique)
Also, what if the cossack be able to do their famous dance? :DI was thinking about this and also about add to cossacks ability of dzhigitovka, but it will be not serious, like piano playing in NW, I don't want stuff like that in my mod. But maybe I'll add this, we'll see (and if I will make singleplayer mod - I'll definately add this to game)

Does the Don Cossacks participated as cavalary or infantry? I don't know much about the cossacks, but the don cossacks are freaking great, i've seen a old movie scene that the Don cossacks are charging a austro-hungarian position and slaughter all of them.
Here's the video:Spoilerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTs9jQasFtQ[close]
Also my friend showed me a musical version of this, it's freaking good:Spoilerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILsb_hospwY[close]
No, as I know, in Crimean war there were no Polish troops in Crimea (some Poles were in Russian and French armies)
It is British regiment, they were in first line of Charge of Light Brigade at Balaclava.

I tried to avoid such issues with rigging, but always there is the same problem with run animation, when you can see pants through coat. Is it that bad or I can leave it so and move on (in NW there are a lot of such issues, but they are not so visible in game)?
Or if I finally decide to avoid it - which way is better: add more vertices or change animation?Spoiler(https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcs621816.vk.me%2Fv621816177%2F26ce0%2FftQ50GLRUsg.jpg&hash=697900e1eb2263a9a5cec41aaa820145a19ed578)[close]

I'm thinking of making Turkish Uniforms If you want. and something else, between all of those Crimean War mods which one should I choose?!I don't know a lot about Turkish uniforms, but I think top picture has more information. Not possible at all... If it would be possible, you would see drummers and flag bearers in other big mods ;)If it is really so - it's very-very sad, but I still have hope - I don't think that Commander battle mode has that difficult structure and scripts and maybe some day we'll se musicians in Commander battle
I would pay 200 dollar for such a script.. But sadly its nearly impossible.
I don't know a lot about Turkish uniforms, but I think top picture has more information. You also can use photos of Fenton.Who is Fenton? and no I didn't mean that I will make my own mod. But I said that I saw some other mods on Crimean War in this Forum. nvm I will start making the Uniforms for Turks, but tell me what will be their Troops so that I can help much better.
You mean, for this mod or do you make your own mod with Turkey?

I've heard of a Chinese server on NW once that was coded to have musicians and flag bearers, but I only heard about it. Might bring some hope though.
Sorry, I just wanted to buy some time for you, but it seems you too wanna make them y yourself, as well simply you said don't do it. btw sorry for disturbing you. I know only about this (https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/index.php?topic=3193.345) attempt to make mod about Crimean War and as far as I know - it was closed almoust two years ago.
Thank you for your offer to help, I appreciate it, but now I don't see much room for Turkish army in this mod, so there will be only obe Turkish infantry unit and maybe there will be Turkish gunners, and I can handle their uniforms myself:)
If I'll decide to make client-side mod for NW with 5 factions, maybe there will be one secondary faction with Turkish and Sardinian troops, but for now I hardly see place for main opponents - Russia, Britain and France, there were too many kinds of units and there is too little place in NW.
So if you are interested in making Turkish uniforms - make it, but I don't guarantee they will be in this mod.
P.S. I found this image, I think I'd make such Turkish infantry

Thank you a lot for help, I higрly appreciate it, but I didn't decide yet how many and what exactly Turkish troops there will be in mod, so I don't want you to make work (I saw your Turkish models, they're very nice), which can be in final not needed. Hinkel ?! I saw in N&S first manassas in CMB flagbearer! >:( Why are you lieing? He isin't lying, Hinkel never lies. He said that you couldn't add musicians etc. to CB without making a new script, and NaS has plenty of those!

This mod is looking promising. I was wondering, will the soldiers be in their knapsacks? I believe the British infantry at least left them behind after landing because many were so weak from cholera so they would not have had them at the Alma. Speaking as a Napoleonic re-enactor, we very rarely wear our packs. With factions, personally I would have Britain, France and Russia as separate factions and then have 'other' factions to represent the Ottomans, Sardinians and Nassauers (they are mentioned, but I have never seen any evidence of what they did during the war) on the allied side, whilst you could have the Greek legion on the Russian side (I remember reading somewhere there was a Serbian legion as well but I can't be sure). If not, then just put the Turks under the British roster and the Sardinians under the French roster. Whatever you do, so long as we get to re-enact the charge of the Heavy Brigade and the Charge of the Light Brigade, I will be happy ;D
I see people have already directed you to Fentons photographs. There are some in this article here:

Note that forage caps became more prominent, I have heard that some regiments didn't even wear their shakos at the Alma.

I assume the white trousers are for parade purposes and were not worn in battle. In the Napoleonic era, it was white trousers for more humid climates while grey for northern Europe. Of course trousers were more of a blue/black hue by this era.
I don't know whom do you mean under "Nassauers".I have heard mention that the Duchy of Nassau sent a contingent of men to fight alongside the allied armies. As I have said, I am not sure if they actually sent troops or whether it was just monetary or even 'moral' support. If I come up with anything I will let you know.

EDIT: It would appear that we raised a German legion (not to be confused with the King's German Legion of the Napoleonic Wars) to fight in the Crimea, but they didn't really see any action and most of them settled in South Africa after the war ended. I expect quite a few came from Nassau which is why some sources reference Nassau as being a combatant in the war whereas in reality it was a legion of mercenaries from across the German Confederation.
Have you read this book?Nope, I didn't know about this book, but I've read a plenty of other books about Crimean War and there is too many books about Charge of the Light Brigade, so I can't read them all. But to modern works I prefer historical books and memoires, yesterday I finished "Letters from Headquarters, Or Realities of the War in the Crimea" (1857), and this staff-officer explains very well why that charge was in wrong direction. Also I can recommend book "Into the Valley of Death: British Cavalry Division at Balaclava 1854", there is description of all cavalry regiments at Balaclava

I wonder if this one is from ETW too ::)
Looks alright to me, the army didn't wear collar badges (that is badges with the regimental crest on as opposed to the lines on the collars which is what I assume you are referring to) until the 1860s and then I am pretty sure that was only for the infantry so what you have done is fine. I am not sure if the 5 should be more pronounced upon the helmet, most examples I have seen show that although they could be from later on (the regiment existed right until 1922 and would still have worn helmets on parade until the First World War, the Crimea was probably the last time they wore them in battle). Thanks for answer! I thought they may have had some badges before 1861, 'cause I saw replica of Scots Greys officer's coatee with grenades on gold-embroided collar, and I saw original 5th DG officer's coatee with "grapes" (or whatever it is) on lines on the collar, so I was wondering, if other ranks had something except lines on collar, but it seems that they had only yellow lines, so I made collar right:)
Remember, Osprey is your friend, they have some books on the Crimean War.
Looks amazing. I've always had an interest in the Crimean Wars, even though I love the Napoleonics. Thanks!
God damn it if this mod doesn't become more popular than regular Napoleonic then I will have lost all faith in humanity! Thanks)) I doubt that this mod will be more popular than NW (simply because you'll need to find it and download, I think that's why a lot of good mods are with only few players online), that's why I'll focus more on singlelayer and online game modes, which don't need much players, as Commander battle and Siege.
On a more serious note though they look excellent. I was wondering, what will the general staff look like? Will they be generic officers or historical ones?
Loving the models so far. If it helps for what Officers might look like have a look at thisThank you, I have many information about officers, but there is never too many information, thanks:)Spoiler(https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Freeseartofwars.com%2Fimages%2FLightBrigade.jpg&hash=a85c45b9bfc24e65cce7bc0afa9525096952bf77)[close]
Thank you all for kind answers:) I will make screenshots in game, but when I'll get better computer, mine is too old and can't handle graphics, good enough for making nice screenshots:(i know you can make another tab so you could probably put the winter uniforms there.https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/index.php?topic=20540.0
And I have question: does anybody know, is there somewhere script of changing winter/summer (and maybe also chaning winter/summer uniform at same time)? It is not very important (because only British had different summer and winter uniform, Russians and French wore greatcoats all time), but it wil be great anyway. Or should I just mix regiments in different kind of uniform and it will be normal?

I haven't found images of Rifle Brigade officer's coatee good enough, so I have little idea how it looked like, all I found - coatee was hussars pattern and drawings of that time and pictures of some sculpture. I tried to make coatee as accurately as possible, but I think there is some inaccuracy in lacing. So I will very thankful if anyone can tell me, where can I find proper images of Rifle Brigade officer's coatee or just if somebody will correct me, what I did wrong:)
Just checking in since I haven't in a long time. My god, that's a lot of progress! Probably over a thousand times faster than the old project progressed, it's good to see that. I'm loving the uniforms for the most part, the 42nd hat seemed a bit squarish at the top, but in general it's great stuff! And greater that it's getting done. Any updates?
Any approximate release date yet? :P
I will have to have a word with our bugler.
LOL, I changed animation of horseman, in draft form, but I don't know what went wrong, I just changed position of bones of horseman like in native animationI dont knoe how to fix but ypu should replace it eith backup animation or put bones back in place haha

Thank you for the information! I didn't choose French regiments for mod yet. I can say, there will be most famous regiments, who distinguished themselfes in battles of Crimean War, such as Zouaves (but I didn't decide yet, which regiment) and 7e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne, who fought almost in all biggest battles and who played big role in capturing Malakhoff in final assault.
But first I must research history of French Army in Crimea:)
In order to keep interest to this topic, and to show, what I am working now on - here is a couple of screenshots, showing part of defenses on Malakhoff. It is far from finished, but it already gives some image of fortifications in game :)

Bravo! Bravo! very good job! say, will you add Ingermanlaand Laandski Hussars who were at Balaclava?I don't know yet, because I've already added Kievski Hussars (since I live in Kiev, they are more interesting for me:)), they also were at Balaclava and Alma, and they wore similar uniform as Ingermanlandski Hussars except for regimental colors. So even if I won't add Ingermanlandski Hussars
Hope it'll be released somewhere in this month. It's not being worked on if there hasn't been any progress since 3-4 months xD.
Hello all, sorry for not not answering - somewhy there were no notifications via email.Good read, also nice to know you're still working on it :).Sorry for saying it was dead before tho.
And sorry for not updating this thread for some time - I'm working alone and you can imagine, how slowly progress goes.
Work continues, I try to find time for modding every day, but unfortunatelly it is not always possible. And of course I'll not abandon this mod :)
Currently I continue work on Malakoff Tower defences scene prop, it is ready (I showed screenshots couple of times, but it was first (after 4 or 5 times remaking it almost from scratch with new ideas and principles) one scene prop, indestructible and big, so there couldn't be any LODs (and with all that gabions it has many-many poligons). So now I must disassemble this whole every merlon (part of wall of fortification between two embrasures) and every traverse (raised mounds of earth designed to defilade the interior spaces of field works and to limit the area effected by explosions occurring within gun positions) as separate destroyable object with LODs (and I must make every object independant, so there were no empty spases. Currently I finished more than half of them, all what's left is to correct deficiencies and export them. And you must understand, that I've never done this before, so sometimes after big part of work I see flaws or better way to make it, so I must remake that work in new way, so in the future all new stuff to make in that new way. For now I have results that satisfy me, so I hope I won't remake something in the future. And also this is important work, because I can use that merlons, traverses and embrasures in other scenes, so in the future work on scenes will go faster :)
And also I'm reading a lot of literature about Crimean War, searching for information and ideas for mod. And also I'm searching information and pictures about units I want add. BTW, working on uniform is much easier, than on scene props, because I have other uniforms, which I can combine and retexture with slightly modifications - and here goes new uniform. BTW, next uniform I want to add is British artillery, maybe I'll do it shortly just to update this thread.
Have a question about the weapons, will the muskets have quick -5 second reload times like the muskets of the time or slower to keep it balanced?
For British army I chose 2 regiments from each division, trying to take 1 regiment from brigade (when there is enough information about that regiment) and maybe this scale will be in other armies. Exception - regiments with interesting uniform, that's why I made uniforms for all the Guards, as example. And from 4th division (where 20th Foot was at the time of Crimean War) I chose 57th regiment (because I have friends - reenactors of that regiment and here is a lot of information about this regiment and photos from reenactments) and 68th regiment (because this regiment distinguished itself in the Inkerman battle). 20th regiment also fought in Inkerman battle along with 68th, but 68th has more interesting uniform (with green kilmarocks), so I chose this regiment over other regiments. Is the Greek Legion going to be included as well?
But it is very simple to recolour existing uniforms, they were pretty the same :)
Is the Greek Legion going to be included as well?Sure. But for now I want to finish this one map of final assault on Malakoff, or at least finish all scene props for it, and then I'll return to making uniforms. At first I'm planning to add artillery to Britain, and after that or I'll finish Russian army (including remaking old uniforms, which I already made (because they were my first modelling and texturing experience), adding new units, such as sailors, artillery, Greek Legion and Greek Balaklava Battalion etc.) or I'll make Turks and Sardinians and after I'll finish Russian uniforms.

BTW, if someone can provide me with a list of Turkish regiments, which took part in the Crimean campaign - I will be very grateful :)
I have enough information about Turkish uniforms of that period, but I found a little information about organization of Turkish army in the Crimea.

It seems that most of what I found is that the Naziam-I-Cadiet Infantry was the unit that was sent, 1st Battalion and 2nd Battalions of Infantry, and 3rd Battalion was lights..
I suggest finishing multiplayer aspect of the mod and doing a singleplayer version for Bannerlord :)

bannerlord is a lie
Now with the update they've added a faction, are you going to use that additional faction to include a new faction? Is Piedmont-Sardigna already going to be a faction? Is Savoye going to be a faction?Adding a faction isn't a problem, there is an old tutorial about adding a new multiplayer faction, but I never planned adding more factions.
I'm working as fast as I can, every day I try to use free time for making this mod:)Can't wait!
I finished placing scene props of Russian fortifications on the Malakoff, made outer terrain for this map with photo-background, almost finished editing terrain in the scene, and for a couple of weeks I'm busy adding troops to the game, by the way experimenting with their order and adding new units and deleting old ones. After I'll figure out how to change order of units and finish adding all units to the game, I'll make scene props of different obstackles (such as wolf's pits and abatises),props of the Allied trenches and destroyed scene props of ones in the front line and add them to the game, so it will be possible to make breeches in the earthen walls and filling ditches with earth.
Also I'm experimenting with weapons, I've added Minie bullets and made Allied rifled muskets slightly more accurate and gave them higher speed of bullets, so they theoretically will shoot much farther than smoothbore muskets.
And also I fixed some issues with existing uniforms and made few new units.
Thank you, but this would be very greedy and unfair of me :)
This is a modification for a game, and also which differs not so much from original game, so I can't sell it as a standalone game.
But I'm thinking about making a standalone game about the Crimean war, after I'll release this mod, since there is no games about that war. These are just thoughts for now, I must decide, which engine to use and maybe find someone who will help me, at least with the scripts.
But at first I must finish this mod and we'll see, is this theme interesting for players :)
That is one interesting question :)I was thinking in terms of getting the word out with YouTube videos and creators to get more exposure and downloads/players. Maybe try to contact someone like Pixelated Apollo when it's near release
I thought about something like this, because indeed I've spent a lot of time, making this mod, but since it is a mod for the game, I can't sell it (I guess) and even if I could, I won't sell it, because so there will be much fewer players. But I'm thinking about posting my credit card number for those, who will like mod and who will have a desire to express their appreciation in currency :) Anyway, I think it will be appropriate only after I will release the mod :)

What uniforms of this war are your favorite?
Wow, oh my god! That is really nice!
Insane work keep it up! :)
Unfortunatelly, I can't have a plan, because I don't have enough free time for modding on a regular basis. I hope to release alpha version of mod on 8th September (which is the day of the last assault on Sevastopol) or on 20th September (the day of the first battle in the Crimean campaign, battle of Alma), but I can't promise anything, sometimes progress is very slow.
For a long time I work on surroundings of the scene, and finally it looks like something to show
(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/77/d0/b4/77d0b47072c8030c6682cc791c569f1e.jpg)
Of course, it requires more work and time, shaping and making UVW's, so work cotinues :)

that looks really good cant wait till it comes out
Well, I tried to finish an alpha version of the mod this weekend, but it seems it can't be done this month when working alone. Currently I work on making LODs of scene props and of uniforms, and it takes very much time, because a lot of work must be done manually so LODs will look nice and in the same time have less polygons. Without LODs mod can't be released, because I tried to add 100 bots to the Malakoff map, and FPS drops to 5-6.Don't be like other NW mods who ended up releasing a broken mod and it needed a lot of patches early on that killed the playerbase.
Also a lot of time will take making destroyed versions of destroyable parts of fortifications, without them mod will be incomplete.
Any further progress on the map?
Nice to see this is still making progress from those early days - looking forward to hosting an event on it!! :D
Looks good!
Looks nice! ModdB-page when though? :P
Looking very good so far. Can't wait for its release.
Looks great!
When can we play it is the question?! ;)

I'm working on it, but it seems I need more time than I thought, there are always some issues I need to solve, it takes time.
Looks great!
I just thought I should point this out. The tartan you have got for the 93rd is incorrect. They wore a Government 1A tartan which was a lighter version of the normal Black Watch. The RRS still wear it today. Just thought I would point it. I am by no means complaining. If anything a like it more as it resembles my clan tartan (Gunn).

Thank you very much! I'm trying to make my mod as historically accurate as possibe, so I appreciate such corrections.
I've fixed it, hope it is right
Thats looks very good. One other thing. The 93rd have yellow epaulettes. I can't see in the pictures but I assume judging from the collar and cuffs they are.

Looking good! Any estimate on when we’d be able to play this ?

Thank you! Unfortunatelly, can't promise anything - I thought I nearly completed release alpha version of the mod, but "finishing touches" take longer than expected and there is more to do that I thought. I really want to release this mod as soon as possible, but I want to release it in proper condition :)

Damn, I can see like a fragment of the drummer xD It takes real skill to be able to make the uniform from that picture! Nice work!
Drummer of 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot (this regiment was the Thin Red Line at Balaklava)
This is how the drummer could look like, because I found only this image of 93rd regiment's drummers' uniform of Crimean War period
This looks bloody amazing laddie, nice work. I apologise I could not have been much help when it came to individual regiments but still I hope my information was of some use.
Just a wee nitpick when it comes to feather bonnets. The small section just under the checkered section of the hat itself should be black rather than blue. Also I think you removed it but it is hard to tell in the NW the Kilmarnock has some green in the checkered section which should be white. The hackle should also be about an inch for so above the bonnet.

Any news? Can't wait to cross the Alma.
Do you plan for there to be Crimean War events for Mount and Blade regiments to take part in?
Do you plan for there to be Crimean War events for Mount and Blade regiments to take part in?
As far as I know, most players are playing vanilla NW, so any mods are far less populated than vanilla servers, so only option to play mods is to play with bots or to play in smal-scale modes (like team deathmatches or commander battles). So I will try to make maps of my mod to be playable for small amount of players, I will try to implement bots to the sieges and adapt my maps for the commander battle mode (which is the most accurate mede for showing battles of that period)
And yes, another way to play mods (and this mod too) is to make events, so I hope there will be enough players to make an event :)
Also I will make some maps which don't need to depend heavily on new scene props (like the Malakoff assault map, where there are a lot of custom trenches and Malakoff tower etc.) to be able to be added to the vanilla servers and I'm planning to make a reskin for original NW (it will be not perfect, some units will have odd voicelines or weapons comparing with how they should be), but it will give the opportunity to play in uniform of the Crimean war with many other players
I run a regiment called The ICP (The Communist International) in the Red and Blue: 1936 mod for NW. However, we began to move onto being a multi-mod regiment doing R&B Campaign events on Fridays and random mod events on Saturdays. Ever since I coined that your Crimean War mod is nearing completion, I have made the decision of having my regiment take part in the Crimean War Events you said you have planned. However, I have a stupid question which you'll probably refuse to, but it's fine. My regiment, The ICP, is expressing interest of testing the mod out early before you release it. Think of it as "regimental mod testers." Would you be interested in having our regiment playtest the current state of your mod to help it grow? Thanks!
Happy Anniversary of The Battle of Alma, everybody!
Ivkolya, do you have a release date in mind yet? My regiment can't wait to test the mod out and do Crimean War events. :D
Happy October 25th, the 165th Anniversary of The Battle of Balaclava, as well as The Charge of The Light Brigade!
All in the valley of death, rode the 600!
Can't wait for the release of this mod, and neither can The ICP! Keep at it, Ivkolya!
Hey lad, second in command of ICP and currently downloading the mod here. Have you thought about creating a discord for the players of this mod to more easily manage events and announcements?
Great mod! However, shouldn't there be more British regiments? You've posted quite alot of pictures of other regiments, which I would like to see added. I've also encountered quite alot of bugs and errors, primarily on the Ottoman, British and French side. I hope you're able to locate and fix them.

Thanks for your feedback!
There are more British (as well as French and Russian) regiments, but there was no room for them. I'm still thinking about how and where to add them
The options are:
1) add new unit sections for winter and summer uniform, uniforms of 1854 and of 1855 and so on,
2) add whole new allied faction with different uniforms
3) leave these uniforms as they are or slightly change current set of units, and all other uniforms add to singleplayer mod if I'll make it.
The British regiments are choosed mainly because of their musicians, each regiment at that time had their own pattern of musicians' lacing and of drums, and there is not so much information, so I added those regiments, which regimental lacing and drums I could find.
As for bugs and errors - that's the whole point of release of the alpha, to find them. So please PM me or post here bugs you've found, and I'll fix them. While making the mod simply there is no possibility to check all by myself, one man can't find all bugs :)
I know I am a wee bit late for feedback. I have been enjoying the mod for sometime now despite it being in alpha and using bots. The Uniforms look fantastic, as do the maps. I have only noticed 4 bugs thus far. Cavalry seem to have their hands showing through the gloves, The Royal Welch only don't have uniforms, The officer of the Royal Welch has some head showing through his hat and some French units don't have guns. Great work with the mod and I really look foreword to some other regiments.
About the no room for more uniforms:
Speak to the North and South devs, they have managed to insert a ‘Next Page’ button on regiment select menu, meaning they can put a lot more units in the game, have a look, considering the amount of excellent uniforms you’ve created, it’d be a shame if you didn’t use most of them.
The Ottomans are perfectly functional now, but for one unit, there's a big black line, don't know how to explain it. On the British side, there's now apparently a French Chasseur uniform, the hands of the Russian dragoons (if you play as them) still don't show up, if you play as the French Grenadier Guards, your hands still don't fit into the gloves. Furthermore, as far as I've checked, most stuff is fixed.
I played some. The British uniforms look really nice! Especially the cavalry looks amazing! I hope France and the Ottomans will get more Cavalry units in the future? I still see there is some work to do though. The cavalry transitional animations still need some work. Some units still seem to have flintlock muskets. Was that on purpose? Or are there still some rifles you need to make? Also some texturing needs fixing. I think the accuracy is ok, but these were rifled muskets, so I think could actually even a bit more accurate.
But all in all, it already looks really promising!
