At least the 4th has more BBQ and fireworks
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Yes, actually, it is spelled 'Roi' is Old French. 'Roy' is an old dialectal spelling. It did appear frequently on revolution era standards, though, so it is semi-acceptable in this situation.

Roy is old french (ancien) and Roi is the today's spelling.

Wasn't he a Captain?

He eventually became the Lieutenant Colonel of the South Essex in the books, but in the TV series we only see him as a captain.

Roy is old french (ancien) and Roi is the today's spelling.

I looked up four Old French dictionaries and all listed 'Roi', but only one had 'Roy' as an alternate spelling. Every Old French text I looked up used the spelling 'Roi'. Of course Old French is a highly inflected language, so it usually appeared in the form 'Reis' (singular nominative with the article 'li', or plural oblique with 'les') or 'Rei' (singular oblique with the article 'le', or plural nominative with 'li').

Using my limited knowledge of Old French, I believe the phrase long live the king would be Vive lunge li Reis, "Vivre" only having the meaning of 'to live'.

I always kept mistaking him for an inferior Lord Flashheart in the show.

If you don't want to find out about him, don't click on this spoiler!
Spoiler
He becomes Major in 'escape' and Lieutenant-colonel just before the battle of Vitoria (dunno what book), and dies by a bullet in the head while leading an attack on a occupied town, during that battle of Vitoria.

The French revolution is like most other revolutions, in which a totalitarian government was replaced by... a totalitarian government.

Though during this time many advances in liberalism and human rights were done, and for that I am happy.
