Melee all the way, 1 or 2 volleys wont do you any good if you are as helpless as a newborn.

There is no significant skill element in shooting. You'd have to be a bit of a tard to be 'bad' at shooting, not knowing how to use a mouse properly or not knowing the function of a crosshair. Other than traversing that very low skill threshold the rest is down to randomness.

For example a common myth is that of bullet drop. This causes you to aim up instead of at the center where you have the highest chance of hitting.
Bullet drop isn't a myth, it exists, it just isn't as relevant as one might expect if you're used to using a bow or crossbow in Native, because bullets move pretty fast. It only really comes into play when you have two lines camping across the map and volleying, but it's definitely there and it helps to be aware of it.
In theory we could do huge player numbers far over 500 players per server...  As such we will surely keep our promise to deliver you the 500 players per server.

We will probably go (far) over it, but that's for later.

I feel Melee is very important, yes, but so is shooting, when shooting there is so little risk of dying to the enemy, where the enemy can outskill you pretty hard in melee.

Melee, a master shooter can kill one enemy every 15 seconds, if they're lucky. A good meleer wading through a crowd can get a kill with every click, or near enough that it doesn't matter.

the muskets in this game are totally random unless the enemy is really close. shooting in this game means almost nothing compared to melee if your not a huge reg. I hope they make this different in BCoF, so if you are a good shooter it will actually make a difference on the battlefield.

As Olafson has pointed out a number of times, shooting is quite random. Therefore, mastering shooting is nearly impossible. You can be a good shot, but I find, both public and regiment-based playing, melee is far more important.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

Neither is important, lack of melee in LB's and shooting is random.

Depends what regiment you are in.

If you're in a rifle regiment, you need to have a good aim.

If you're in a foot guard regiment, you'll need to have good melee.

Ok (even though most regiments have "Guard/Old Guard/ Presidential Guard/something similiar" as a rank, and usually have Foot Guard detachments.. :D

Well first off, shooting is totally random, so good luck with that. The obvious choice here is melee. Anyone can dodge a bullet, but not everyone can block an attack. Further more, there is so much variety with melee, it may be hard to learn, but once you got it, it's invaluable to survival in NW.
