It is not called "Project Napoleon" because of me, but because of the nature of the DLC
- That just rhymed, I just realised :)

What is Project Napoleon you say?

Project Napoleon is a UCC project aimed to promote Napoleonic Wars through Machinima's, Films and
YouTube series. We will begin with a simple Machinima. We are actively looking for players and regiments of all sizes, to join
us and help us make one hell of a film. We have a team set in place, that are going to put this in motion. Interested
people/regiments must reply with the below post, and will be added to the attending list. For single players, you will be checked
just to make sure no trolls get in.

Information

Below are the forms to be filled. Reply here with a filled out application, PM me or any other
UCC board member, or send it via Steam to a board member. All those attending will be divided into two teams. We
are going to be filming this at different points, and at different times. This will make the event look much bigger,
and of course better. Attending regiments and/or players must be willing to work with others in order to make this work.
This MIGHT promote something that is very rare in this community, a little thing called "team work".

Technical Support / Another Problem
« on: August 13, 2013, 02:34:19 pm »
I was playing on 84e today, and I had to change my graphics as I was freezing. But it tabbed me out, and when I tried to go back in by clicking on the Warband application in my task bar, it started up as a black screen, but brought me back to my desktop. Do I need to re-install Warband to fix this problem?

The wonderful AGI is reforming!

A Little History

A gunner of the Horse Guard Artillery

To the left is a cannonier of the
Foot Artillery, and to the right a sapper, complaining
"When will my defences be needed?" - He says
as the Guard Artillery bombard the advancing enemy,
which will be no more by the time they reach his position.
There was, perhaps, no class of men on the face of Earth, who led a life of
more continued exertion, excitement and danger, and who were more enamored of their occupation,
than the gunners of Napoleon's Old Guard. Strange, that men could find so strong and fascinating a
charm in this hazardous mode of life, as to estrange themselves from home and all the comforts and
privileges of civilization. The very danger had its attraction and the courage and skill made necessary
by the difficulties they had to overcome, the privations they were forced to contend with, became at
once their pride and boast. In 1809 at Wagram they were excellent. Sixty silver stars were granted to
the artillery whose losses were heavy. Stalwart and resolute, bodies toughened by years of war, they
had every reason to cheer Napoleon. He knew many of the gunners, called them by name, awarded with
big sum of money. They were privileged characters, their breasts glittering with medals bestowed for high
conduct and gallantry.

St.Hilaire writes: "The foot gunner [of the Old Guard] was a large and lanky fellow; he had the slightly arched
back found in all men who devote themselves to operations of force. His character was as severe as his uniform;
he spoke little, and his meditative air, although he was only private, made one soon guess that he belonged to
an erudite arm, to a corps special to Napoleon, more or less justified in his preferences, placed before all the others,
without exception even those of his engineers. ... His step was a little heavy, and on this standpoint he was
far from resembling his brother in arms, the horse gunner."

The gunners of Old Guard were very devoted to their master. In 1813 before Napoleon's birthday
"the Guard Artillery prepared fireworks which they set off on the Eble River just under Emperor's windows."
(Lachouque - "Anathomy of Glory").
After Napoleon's first abdication in 1814 he was allowed to take very small number of Guard gunners on Elba Island.
Approx. 400 volunteered ! General Griois chose 100 gunners under Captains Cornuel and Raoul. The rest of the Guard
artillery was taken by General Griois to Vendomme where the batteries were scattered in order to find food and forage
for over 1,800 men and 2,400 horses.
The officers were split into political cliques, with des Loches, Bitsch and Leclerc content to serve the King, and Boulart,
Marin, Capelle, Griois and many others unhappy with their fate. When Count d'Osmond was sent to investigate the gunners' loyalty,
they took little trouble to hide their sentiments.
When a Te Deum of thanksgiving for the Bourbons' return was sung in church, some old warriors heckled the
priest who dared to compare 'the virtues of the King with the crimes of the Tyrant.' Griois tore up a testimonial
stating that his gunners' conduct 'had vastly improved during their stay' and threw it in the face of the mayor.
There were more incidents, like the horse gunners charging with sabers on the Prussian Garde du Corps at Compiegne !
Dogureau, who was presented to the King, was appointed major general commanding the artillery. However, his
old threat to "blow out the brains of the first Bourbon who returns to France" had not been entirely forgotten, nor
had Lallemand's reference to the Court as "canaille of princes and emigres", nor many other insults.

A Corporal of the Foot Guard
Artillery struggles to light his cannon
during the retreat from Russia

Two gunners of the Foot Guard
Artillery shown in full dress c.1811.

A Cannon team in full swing. A typical cannon would have 7-8 men operating it.
A junior NCO(typically a corporal) would oversee around four cannon, while a senior NCO (something
of a sergeant class) would oversee a batterie (Or company) consisting of 6-8 pieces.

The AGI in Napoleonic Wars

The AGI was formed in November of 2012 as the 1st Royal Field Artillery. We later changed to the AGI in February
of 2013. After disbanding in April later that year, we have decided to reform to bring honour back to this name. We are
actively recruiting EU players. All players are welcome, and we will train you like a real Frenchman. Join today, and
let us destroy these Brits and their allies, and we shall rule Europe under our Emperor!

Technical Support / A very bad problem
« on: August 01, 2013, 08:34:23 pm »
Today I installed a skin. Thinking everything would be fine, I didn't backup my NW folder, and installed the skin. I went in-game to test it, but everything is destroyed. The character selection is messed up, admin panel is messed up, and worst of all, the game is messed up. All cav and infantry are under infantry, artillery, ship crew and sappers ect are under cavalry, and for the odd nation Specialists is either empty or has some line infantry there. I was stupid. Some pics are below. Is there anyway I can fix it other than buying the DLC again?

Warning, big pictures.

Whats the stupidest thing you have done in NW?

I once said to someone while playing as KGL "My game must be broken, every time I press C my character says something in German."

The Mess Hall / Do you know your history? [Forum Game]
« on: June 20, 2013, 03:57:32 pm »
This is a simple game.

I find this hard to explain, so Ill give an example.

Whoever replies to this, must see how many posts I have, and tell us what happened in that year.

Example: If I had 1066 posts, the reply would be something like "Battle of Hastings"

Any historical event will do ;)

Any member with over 2013 posts, then post it BC years.

Commence with the history!

Due to Jocam "leaving" the community as such, I have decided to continue this.

If you have ranks, please DO post them as a reply, I will then try to add them ASAP.

If you have any ranks to add, please post like this

This way, it is way easier to edit entire ranking stuff, without the need for me to do it all by myself. You are not required to do this, but it is easier for me.

Single rank changes may be posted as a normal reply, without then need to use mentioned format.

The format above is just a standard table, if there are exeptions (such as French Major, which is higher than Lt-Col) you may edit them yourself.

In Development / Looking for experienced modelers/texturers
« on: June 10, 2013, 02:30:38 pm »
Hey there modders

At this moment in time, there is a small group of friends working on a mod. We are looking for any experienced modelers/texturers to help us developing it. The majority is modeling uniforms, weapons and general scene props. We don't want to announce the project yet, but if would like more information then don't hesitate to add me [57th] Napoleon on Steam.

If your interested, then add me on Steam, and I shall let you know what is involved, and what mod it is of course!

Technical Support / Chat Glitch
« on: June 07, 2013, 10:23:08 am »
As of late, I have been experiencing a very irritating glitch. When I type in chat to other players in game, it doesn't show up on the bottom left of my screen. I cant see any messages of other players too. Too add, I cannot see casualties on both sides. I checked my video options and my graphics options, and everything is normal. Please help.

History

In 1755 a new regiment of foot was raised. Initially numbered 59th, this rose to 57th a year later when the old 50th and
51st Foot were disbanded. Some accounts suggest that it was mainly formed of Londoners from the Middlesex Militia, though
others suggest it was formed by joining recruits from Manchester, Somerset and Gloucester with two companies from the 3rd and 20th Regiments of Foot.

The regiment’s first posting was to Gibraltar, from which it operated for a time as marines along the coast of Spain. It was moved
to Minorca in 1763 and then to Ireland five years later.

57th Regimental Colour
The regiment’s first posting was to Gibraltar, from which it operated for a time as marines
along the coast of Spain. It was moved to Minorca in 1763 and then to Ireland five years later.

With the American Revolutionary War (1775-83) brewing, it was next deployed to North America.
Most of the regiment fought throughout the conflict, but its light company was captured at Yorktown and interned until the war’s end.

In 1782 the regiment was given a country association with West Middlesex and a year later joined the British garrison at Halifax in Nova Scotia for eight years.
It was then recalled to Europe in 1793 to fight in Flanders during the opening campaigns of the French Revolutionary Wars. In 1796 it was sent to the West Indies, garrisoning Trinidad for seven years.

In 1803, now back in Britain, the regiment raised a 2nd Battalion as part of the Army of Reserve.
This remained in England and Jersey until being disbanded soon after Waterloo (1815).
The 1st Battalion returned to Gibraltar for five years in 1804 and briefly returned to Britain in 1809 before
being sent to Lisbon later that year.
The regiment’s 1st Battalion suffered heavily in the opening years of the Peninsular War (1808-14),
most notably at Albuera on 16 May 1811, where 88 per cent of its officers and 75 per cent of its men were killed or wounded.
Its King’s Colour sustained 30 bullet holes. Less than a month later its few remaining men were joined with survivors from the
3rd, 29th, 31st and 66th Foot to form the Provisional Battalion.

However, in August 1811 a draft of men from the 57th Foot’s 2nd Battalion arrived in Spain and was immediately used to
re-form the regiment’s 1st Battalion. This new 1st Battalion remained in the Peninsula and by May 1814 had fought its
way to Bordeaux. It was shipped from there to man the Canadian frontier in the War of 1812, only to sail back
the following year. It landed at Ghent in August 1815 and spent two years in France with the Army of Occupation.

In 1818 the regiment began six years in Ireland. It then joined convict ships at Chatham and sailed with them to
New South Wales, where the regiment remained until moving to India in 1831. That posting lasted 15 years and
was followed by seven more years in Ireland.

The 57th at Albuhera

The regiment served throughout the Crimean War (1854-56) and left two companies behind in Aden in 1857 en route
to fighting during the Indian Mutiny (1857-59). It arrived in India in 1858 but only stayed two years this time,
immediately followed by seven years in New Zealand. From 1867 to 1873 it was back in Britain and Ireland, at the
end of which it moved to Ceylon. From there it sailed to the Zulu War in 1879, returning to Ireland later that same year.

In 1881 the regiment was merged with the 77th Foot to form the Duke of Cambridge’s Own (Middlesex Regiment).

How to Join

The 57th is actively recruiting EU players to join their ranks and server their country. Joining is simple. Fill out the form below, and send it as a PM to me, or post it as a reply. Alternatively add 57th Napoleon on Steam. Please note, we accept NA players, but it is in their interest not to as all our events are held at EU times.
