18th United States Infantry Regiment


History
Established with other US Regular Army Regiments in the Regular Brigade at Camp Thomas, Ohio July 1861. Participated in the Western Campaigns of the War as a part of the US XIV Army Corps Under MG George Thomas, MG John M. Palmer and MG Jefferson C. Davis.
Perryville, KY; Stones River, TN; Chickamauga, GA; Chattanooga, TN; Campaign for Atlanta.

Utoy Creek GA 5 August 1864 as part of Johnsons 1st Division, XIV Army Corps under MG John M Palmer the Regular Brigade was cited for making a crossing of North Utoy Creek under fire assaulting and driving Armstrong's Confederate Cavalry Brigade Dismounted from their position at Peyton Road. 15th and 18th US Infantry were cited for this action in the Official Records. The Battalion and Regular Brigade and participated in the initial attack 5 August 1864 south of Atlanta at the battle of Utoy Creek, GA in an attempt to break the main siege lines in Atlanta protecting the Railroads at East Point, GA. Conducted a feint assault 6 August 1864 to support XXIII Corps Attack at Utoy Creek and participated in the three-week Siege of Atlanta along high ground east of Utoy Creek in SW Atlanta near Willis Mill and Adams Park, GA

Ranks
Commanding Officers

First Lieutenant - The First Lieutenant is the leader of the regiment. The First Lieutenant will supervise all officers and non-commissioned officers below him. The First Lieutenant will ensure that all officers are performing their duties.

Second Lieutenant - The Second Lieutenant is the second in command of the regiment and will assist the First Lieutenant when asked. The Second Lieutenant will take command of the line when the First Lieutenant has been killed in combat. The Second Lieutenant will overlook the NCOs in order to make sure there doing there duties.

Non-Commissioned Officers


Sergeant - A Sergeant observes the line and ensures that all members of the regiment are following orders and enforces discipline.

Corporal - An Corporal is the lowest rank for an NCO. The Corporal will make sure the line is orderly and straight.

Enlisted Rankers

Specialist - A Specialist is a someone who has not only been in the regiment for a fair amount of time but at the same time has shown good discipline and skill in melee. Most importantly for the Specialist is to be excellent in their melee skills. A Specialist is the best example of discipline and skill in the regiment.

Private First Class - The Private First Class is the backbone rank of the regiment, he is neither really good at shooting or really good in melee but he is disciplined and has been a member of the regiment for some time.

Private - The Private is a member of the regiment who will be most observed to see if he will continue his time in the regiment or not. Its expected that the Private begin to have a decent understanding of how the regiment works and develop discipline within the line.

Recruit - The Recruit is a new member of the regiment, a recruit must attend three events to become a private.
