Book Spoiler?
Isn't Stannis supposed to come to their aid in the end?

Yes, and they left it for the next episode, to everyone's disappointment.

Btw Jesus fuck, your avatar had me thinking you were Norseman for a second, even though it clearly said your name right above it. #4AMproblems

The weakest episode 9 of the entire series thusfar.

Book spoiler
And why oh why did they not let Stannis appear? They are going to cram so many climaxes into episode 10 :-\

Aye, very dissapointing that they did an entire episode about that battle. They could easily left out some scenes.  :-\

Book Spoiler
Stannis and his army show up at the point where Jon Snow is at Mance's camp. I believe

I was disappointed that they didn't show the fight between those 6 in the tunnel and the giant. And that they didn't light the elevator on fire like in the books. The rest was well done. Quite liked the episode. IIRC Stannis only came after some days of fighting so it's just understandable he wasn't in this episode

But it would have been such a spectacular finish!

When I see that trailer, I start thinking about that there could be a possibility that the hound dies that episode...

Book spoiler
And now I saw Varys face in that trailer, some Lannie is gonna die next episode.  :-*

I can't remember whether Alister is actually down below fighting in the books. Also did Janis Slynt hide during the battle in the books?

Presumably, but check this out - http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/60808-the-gravedigging-hound-complete-analysis/

Probably one of the most well founded theories in the series, and one that GRRM certainly wanted readers picking up on without too much tinfoil hat conspiracy bs.
