Previews League 1

15th Yorkshire "The Snappers"

The 15th Yorkshire is the biggest name of the NW regimental scene without a doubt. They can call an incredible 16 gold medals, most of them won in big tournaments such as EIC, GLBT, and RGL, their own. The RGL record itself is beyond understandable. The 15th has won the last 3 RGL seasons. It is almost unimportant that they also won the MRGL in late 2020. We need to go back several years to find a 15th loss in RGL. Including MRGL the 15th are undefeated in 32 consecutive RGL matches. Not having played RGL S5, they last lost an RGL game in September 2017 against Pieters 17e.

Known features of the 15th are a stable player root as well as stable leadership. In fact, the 15th higher leadership has only very slightly changed at all in the last years. Being a consistent pillar of the competitive community, they catch again and again the interest of top players wanting to overcome changing regiments. On the downside, the 15th has always had a serious amount of inactive players and is sometimes "used" as a retirement home. But even in inactive times, they have never lost their competitiveness. The 15th is widely known for declining even top players and has always been strict with scheduling and behavior towards other regiments.

As one could expect, the 15th is the main favorite to take home RGL S9 as well. They are used to each other and have clear processes they can go through in the rounds. They still have the best late game in the scene and the leadership could hardly be more experienced when it comes to decisive situations. But, the 15th doesn't look invincible. One can ask questions about the activity of several key players. Furthermore, the 15th has hardly developed fresh blood since the last RGL. That could both be a positive and a negative thing.

Key Matches: 45thN - formerly befriended Regiment, now a rival / 55th - remnants of the biggest rival and title contender
Key Players: Python, Rikkert, lonedoge
Rising Stars/Possible Key Players: TheJoker, trot888, Tw1ster

55th Westmoreland Regiment of Foot

The 55th Westmoreland Regiment of Foot is a by now, established Regiment of the competitive scene. With some smaller off times, they are playing around the elite since 2020. Besides a less important NWIL title, they are the current kings of the 10v10 groupfights, having won the last 2 RGTs. In RGL tho, they are yet to conquer a podium.

The 55th had to change rosters since reaching elite status, at the same time tho they were shaped by a reoccurring player base on several levels. The time when Zeyden, a known star player of the scene trained rookies in the 55th team GVT came to public interest. After having been gone for a short span of time, they have reached the latest up after Vegi joined in early 2022 with a huge and strong player base of the old 92nd. Two gold medals have followed since. A disappointing EIC is a truth as well.

This RGL, the 55th is a title contender but not the main favorite. The goal has to be to achieve the first-ever RGL medal. The Regiments line-up has a good mix of experienced players and younger, active guys. A bunch of french and english NWWC stars are along the line. The 55th leadership is relatively inexperienced and will need to prove its ability to lead RGL. Chemistry across the whole line-up can hardly exist, considering they have just lately started to prepare with the full line-up. With inconsistent results going into the tournament the 55th looks rather unpredictable. From going head-to-head with 15th to fighting for a medal, everything looks at least imaginable.

Key Matches: 15th - hardest match on the title route / 45thN - a strong rivalry between the leadership
Key Players: Zeyden, Chuckster, HiReaper
Rising Stars/Possible Key Players: Giorno, Gibby, Naatsuu

45th Nottinghamshire Regiment of Foot "1st Notts"

The 45th Nottinghamshire Regiment of Foot is another big name of the scene. The regiment was established in 2016 and has become the biggest of the community in 2020 after merging with the 10th. Even though they have achieved 9 medals since in elite tournaments they couldn't finish better than 3rd yet. Having won MRGL Bronze, in the real RGL they are even without a podium at all. Having said that they have looked like the strongest regiment before many competitions, therefore often referred to as „Kings of practice“.

Along the strengths one gotta mention the cult-like status within the regiments community and around the leaders' personal. They should be able to benefit from the fact that they have a very consistent roster, most of the key players being in the regiment for years. Recent rumors about inactivity look to be overcome. Maskman and his people look ready for RGL, controversies have decreased.

The 45thN has without a doubt the strongest mid of the whole tournament, they will try to win matches here. Another characteristic of the regiment is the chaos though. Many 45thN matches have a surprisingly big amount of „open melee“ even in early-round situations. Having been memed for years, one still gotta analyze the leadership as unproven. They will want to finally prove skeptics wrong. So to sum it up the 45thN doesn't look strong enough to play for the title. But we gotta expect a hustle for silver and bronze.

Key Matches: 55th – battle for silver / 96y – match to secure the first-ever RGL medal
Key Players: Achilles, Jakob, Narrow
Rising Stars/Possible Key Players:  sHype, Ilypa, Yovko

Previews League 2

96y Dneprovskiy Pehotniy Polk

The 96y Dneprovskiy Pehotniy Polk is the only non-European regiment of League 1, with its origins and core clearly belonging to the CIS community. They have been around since June 2017 with the goal to have an eastern European powerhouse. Ever since they have lived up to this expectation taking several medals home. The biggest achievement gotta be the title in EIC S3. But even in RGL they have always been sharp and successful. Even tho having won the last RGL medal in Season 6 (bronze), they last finished an elite tournament outside the Top 5 in 2018.

Since the foundation Desant has been in the leadership. Marxeil as the probably most famous player of the regiment has been in some sort of on-off relationship with leadership positions. In the last years, fresh blood, such as Flashkodr and Gudrian has emerged to regimental importance. Having been the home for basically every CIS player at some point in their NW career, they usually bring 75% of CIS competitive players into a tournament. But over the years they have more and more gotten international top players in their ranks. What started with Wursti and Stark led to a german stack at times.

This season the 96y should be the vast outsider in League 1. They are relatively active, have an experienced leadership and are warmed up alongside each other. The issue is a simple lack of depth in the line-up. They have a few international top players and some very strong CIS guys. Still, the main group doesn't belong to the absolute elite of groupfighting teams and should be outplayed over time. Having said that, a bronze medal is absolutely within reach.

Key Matches: 45e, 45th/55th Centre's, 33rd, Nr13/Nr59
Key Players: Marxeil, Desant, Wursti
Rising Stars/Possible Key Players:  sennii, J3wels, Slavic

I think it’s important 55th gets a little mention of Anthony, he is an inspiration to many inside the regiment and is one of the many reasons the regiment is still around today. I’d be willing to write 1-2 lines to add to the interview if you’d be willing to add it xx

Not sure about this comment, we won a tournament in 2021. Otherwise, thanks for the preview  :)
So let’s just ignore someone like Maskman who knows next to nothing about leading and the capabilities of regiments performing well in a linebattle type of event.
To state that anyone on a “good day could beat the 77y/15thYR” is just a meme of its own, if that was the case why don't you beat the 77y or 15thYR then!?

Sozzles Kincaid, NWBC and 2v2 are a pleasure to play but they are not really that competitive. (NWIL, RWT also excluded from "elite" tournaments)
