I bought it when it was on sale and I don't regret it. Without a doubt, this isn't game that will give you a 1000 hours of enjoyment, but I really enjoy the campaign. Holding on to points and adapting strategy. I just played a 2nd Union campaign and I managed to hold on to Seminary Ridge on day 1 (I didn't make the confederates really aggressive tbh) and decided to defend the entire ridge on day 2 - which, in hindsight, might have been a bad idea considering several brigades of confederate infantry were marching towards the northern flank.
I also love artillery in this game. In my first Union game,2nd day, I had a breakthrough on the extreme right flank, and I put all my reserve guns into action just to plug that gap, and it worked. The confederate advance stopped and I could reform my men. The fact that they sometimes don't fire for seemingly unknown reasons is a bit annoying though. Also cavalry plays a weird role in the game, though I suppose that it does represent the nature of cavalry in the ACW.
Playing Union while giving confederates the 'aggressive' AI is probably the most fun. I was close to breaking into tears when I lost McPhersons Ridge within two minutes because the confederates just charged and charged and charged.
Finally, I really like the format of this game, and I truly hope that one day we'll see a Napoleonic version of this format. With maybe slightly more realistic sizes and formations, though.
