Events / Battle of Hodów (25th August 2018) [The Deluge warband mod]
« on: August 13, 2018, 09:46:17 pm »Battle of Hodów AD 1694 In June 1694, during the reign of Jan III Sobieski, several years after the famous Battle of Vienna, the Crimean Khanate decided to strike against the Commonwealth in order to acquire booty. Against them, the polish-lithuanian rulers put 7 hussar and cossack style cavalry regiments. Initially, such small forces were sent because of information about only thousand or two of crimean tatars. The main forces however was 10x higher. The final clash took place near Hodow, where 400 Hussars fought 40.000 of Tatars. Many times, the Lipkis - Polish Tatars urged the defenders to surrender - unsuccessfully. The seriousness of the clash is evidenced by the fact that King John III Sobieski, a year after the victory, issued a monument to the victorious soldiers of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. |
