Favourite American Civil War Regiment?
« on: November 11, 2012, 02:18:38 pm »
So as the title says, post your favourite American Civil War regiments, and maybe a little history if you feel inclined.

I like the Irish brigade cause they are pretty badass.

Irish Brigade uhm? Ah.

Mine would be for sure the Stonewall brigade,

Quote
The Stonewall Brigade was a collection of five Virginia infantry regiments and an artillery battery in the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War (1861–1865). Trained and first led by Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, it was perhaps the most accomplished—and certainly one of the most famous—units of its kind in American military history. The brigade saw action in many of the bloodiest battles of the war, from First Manassas (1861) to Antietam (1862) to Gettysburg (1863) to Spotsylvania Court House (1864), losing only a single engagement under Jackson's command but also losing more than 96 percent of its men by 1865. I would say the 79th cameron highlanders new york regiment. The 79th New York Volunteer Infantry was a military regiment organized on June 20, 1859 in the state of New York. Prior to the American Civil War it was one of the three regiments which formed the Fourth Brigade of the First Division of the New York State Militia. The Fourth Brigade included the 11th and the 69th Regiments. The 79th gained fame during the American Civil War for its service in the Union army.
And yes thats all from wiki  ;D

20th Maine, and the Louisiana Tigers.

The tigers for their sexy uniforms.

20th Maine for being the heroes on the second day, taking on the Alabama regiment and taking many of their prisoners, then the next day being stationed in the middle of the Union line, soon to be attacked by the famous brigade lead by General Pickett. Maybe an unknown thing to some, but they were held in the rear away from everyone at Chancellorsville, believed to have small pox.

I'm going to have to say the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. :) Battle of Fort Wagner.

54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry led by Colonel Ferris Bueller
