Title: Windows 10 update problem?
Post by: Ryner on February 05, 2017, 05:28:45 pm
So after the most recent Windows 10 update (Feb 4) my monitor is having trouble recognizing my pc and not displaying anything. I know it isn't my GPU b/c I tried to plug my HDMI port into the MoBo to use the integrated graphics but I got the same issue. My best bet is that my pc is still trying to configure windows or something b/c my pc hasn't entered sleep mode in several hours. I'm curious how I could go about fixing this w/o a display or if anyone else has had a similar issue? Please and thank you!

Have you tried booting into Windows with safe mode?

Do you still get the flash from your motherboard when booting or does it just not work at all?

Nothing. My keyboard/Headset/Mouse are all receiving power and such because the lights are on and stuff.

Have you tried turning it on and off?

Yes, that was troubleshooting step one.

Hopefully mods are gentil for letting me type on this account :P

If your motherboard isn't even posting then its definitely not just a Windows problem.

Even if all my other peripherals are working?

Maybe I should add that I've had this problem once or twice before and it would always happen after a Windows update and my display would always boot after a few restarts but this one is taking a bit longer...

I've read online that sometimes a Windows update can fuck up the drivers, could it be something to do with that?

The way to tell that would be to boot up Windows in safe mode, but if your Motherboard isn't posting, then you can't get through to booting into safe mode so...

As for peripherals it doesn't really matter, I mean mine stay powered even when the PC is off so

Aight, so I'm going to need to get a new MoBo when I get a chance.  :'(

Aight, so after some trouble shooting I found out it was my windows. I temporarily fixed it but after a second update, windows isn't loading... again. My computer will post now but once the MoBo logo displays it'll try to load windows but after a few seconds it'll revert back to the MoBo logo and repeat. Is my windows just currupted and how would I go about fixing it?

Does that make the hard drive unusable or?

Yes

the only thing your computer would be able to do is access the motherboard.

Look up how to boot into safe mode with your PC or motherboard manufacturer. If it loads it's not your hard drive. Let me know.

I mean after/if I'm able to wipe it. Can I still use the drive afterwards or will it still be screwy? Thank you!

Thanks, I will. It may be a few days though.

No. A crashed HDD is completely useless.

Can you get into the BIOS? The harddrive should be listed in there, that might be a good way to check if its not recognizing your hdd

Yeah I can, but it clearly recognizes the hdd b/c it's trying to load windows. It wouldn't do that if it at least recognized the hdd, right?

Little back ground, I have 3 drives: One 1TB mechanical drive and two 250GB(ea.) solid state. My mech. drive has all of my games on it, nothing else. One of my solid state has windows and other programs while the other is completely empty.

Interesting, since you have an extra drive, maybe you can do a fresh install of windows onto your empty one and see if that one boots. Then just copy your stuff over and wipe the old one

That's what I was planning to do

So update. I did a fresh windows in install on my second SSD (Also wiped my first) and it seems to be working now. Oddly enough though, despite having just downloaded steam (b/c of the fresh download), I'm getting a steam service/vac error on CSGO... I'm pretty sure I fixed that though (Had to run some Steam Service repair file).

tl:dr: It works now but if it isn't one thing, it's another.

Hey there, guys. Sorry for bumping the old thread. My GF has Windows 7 on her laptop, but I'd like to get her Windows 10, cause she really liked it when I gave her my laptop. The system doesn't offer a free update for some reason...

Wasnt the free update just a limited time offer until 2018?

Hey dude, no worries about bumping the old thread! We're all here to help each other out. Though MS doesn't support W7 anymore, they had to offer you a free update. I actually have no idea why they've not done it yet. Anyway, have you heard of windows 10 cheap keys (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskComputerQuestions/comments/xza7h5/where_to_get_windows_10_key/)? They're basically product keys that you can buy for a fraction of the price of a regular key. Just make sure you buy from a reputable seller to avoid any scams. Also, I'm new on this forum, but I hope I was able to help you out!
