I'm a little dubious about the "medieval" shoes, honestly.
I guess they'll pass better than modern shoes but they won't exactly be close.

And if they're black leather they're farby as hell for medieval, so I disapprove anyway.

Nah they're brown, from the Royal Armouries in Leeds

End of the day, under the gators noone will notice, some guys wear Modern Army boots

If you really want me to be 100% authentic shall i rock up barefoot then, considering that is what the state of most soldiers footwear had deteriorated to in the Peninsular?
Covered with Gators the shoes are virtually invisible anyway. If you want to argue about historical accuracy of any of your kit with me don't hesitate, I am a military history researcher with 2 degrees in military history so feel free.

All this over a pair of shoes, there's a lot worse out there than a pair of freaking shoes you know

A small detail can always improve your impression anyday. Do the original cast some justice by being authentic. Don't take lazy way out just because gaiters cover it. Taking the cheap way out in the hobby basically make you just wanna play soldiers.

Sorry if I'm hard on you. I'm a progressive reenactor and I aim to be accurate as possible. If I can't do it accurately then I'm not doing it. Coming from ACW progressive community you get sense of 100% attitude and find it silly for those who skip an item. Ridiculous. Even to a point where a cheap one is not even being used. Even for a military researcher, that's a big shame in my opinion since you're suppose to be the "expert" with your two degree which i am sure you worked hard for. (No sarcasm)

Meh...my shoes are actually just modern shoes. The model of riding shoes just barely changed. Nowadays we call them George boots. Our corporal just found a site where they sell them with the correct visible outer stitching, and doonneeee. They look like the things, they feel like the things, and they are made from the same material as the things. The only difference being that these aren't handmade. Ah well. Farb? Nah. I don't think so.

We are one of the few cavalry groups that do not wear only parade dress. In the field, we wear the campaign dress. During drills, we wear the exercise dress. In fact, you don't even have to get the parade dress (which includes a whooole new set of expensive trousers) as that's only to be worn in a parade which we don't have that much. But people tend to still get it cos it's so fancyyyyy  :P
