Regiments / 1er Régiment de Dragons de l'Impératrice
« on: September 24, 2014, 07:27:13 pm »

We are a casual regiment of veteran players who fancy having a go at NW again.
We have chosen the RDI as it was one of our original regiments we created back on Mount & Musket,
and is probably where our fondest memories of this game lie.

We'll be looking to attend line battles preferably as Cavalry, but we'll be able to make do with other things.
If you'd like to invite us to an event please contact me via PM on this forum.

If you'd like to join the RDI, please contact me via PM on the forum.

Please note that if you're looking for a highly active regiment that has a lot of members and has regular
trainings then the RDI is not for you. We are extremely relaxed and just reliving our glory days.

Regiments / 5th Brigade, British Army [Warning Order]

5th Brigade, British Army
(1stRHG, 53rd, 2ndQB, 1erRDI, 5Brg)

Dear Friends & Community Members,

It's been a hell of a run. I think that's three years since I stumbled upon "Musket Madness", and of those three years two of them have been spent either running or overseeing a vast array of Regiments. From the RHG all the way through to 5th Brigade, I've enjoyed being able to bring people together and experiencing this game as it was supposed to be played. To the people who have been beside me since the early days, I sincerely thank you - it has been your support that made it possible for us to continue so long.

Now down to business. Effective a week from today (02/06/2013), I shall be standing down the 5th Brigade (and by extension, the British Army). This decision has not been an easy one, but there a whole array of reasons as to why it is being done. The main thing I want to clarify is that it is not because of any problems or extreme drama like you can unfortunately see in some areas of the Community; but simply because the majority of the Command Staff don't have the time, money and sad to say, passion for it any more.  Brigade members who still wish to take part in Regimental Gameplay will be advised to join a new Regiment, but to all you budding recruiters out there please refrain from vulturing until next week.

To that end, it is not all bad news - the 5th Brigade as a community will still exist. Although we will no longer be a unit in NW, we will still have a TeamSpeak and a small dedicated box from which we plan to run organised events in a vast array of games from ArmA 2/3 to Planetside 2. Hell, some of us will even play NW from time to time! So even if you're from another Regiment, you're more than welcome to hop onto our TeamSpeak and play random games with us.

So, in conclusion all I really have to say is thank you to everybody who has made the past three years absolutely brilliant. This isn't goodbye, just the end of an era. Although I must say I hate change, this has to be done! I wish all of you the very best in your endeavours within the community, and I hope to see this forum grow into something even greater.

Big Love,

Lord Thomas Flashheart,
Officer Commanding - 5th Brigade, British Army

Special Thanks:
Spoiler
Darling - Nobody knows who the hell he is but he's been beside me since the very beginning. Recently he took more of a support role and became the silent protector of 5th Brigade.
Tavington - Even though I want to slap you, my RHG days remain some of my favourite.
Wodan - Did far too much work to make 5th Brigade what it was. We never would have gotten as far without him. Now you can have a vacation!
Slappy - One of my first recruits when I finally started my own Regiment. Probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life, but oh well. Thanks for seeing it through to the end.
Wes - He's been playing as long as me. Through all of our incarnations he's been at the forefront of activity. Thank you for your loyalty and massive contribution.
Holyfluff - What a wanker. Been with us since the RDI, and when I finally gave him his own Regiment in the Brigade he worked wonders with it. The 95th carry on your legacy!
Jim/Kalzakov - The Secret Leader of 5th Brigade (apparently). Although he's been terrible to manage, when push came to shove he was always ready to see it through and always had the best interests of the Brigade at heart. Thanks for your short but definitely great contribution.

There are so many more people I should mention here but sadly can't. To the new leaders of the 5Brg Regiments, you will have been picked for your skills and commitment. I wish you the very best of futures. I know Angry  Piper has already taken the 95th even further than I could have thought possible.

Forum & Website / Unfair Muting

Ok I'm probably going to get muted myself for this but this needs to be posted. Even after all this stupid drama there's still completely biased moderating going on. The image below shows the latest one I've seen, sadly I'm sure there'll be more.

Please can we either hold the same rules for everyone, or stop moderating certain people for anything possible.

Servers / Server Hosting Support
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:49:18 pm »

S E R V E R   H O S T I N G   S U P P O R T

Hello. There's been a lot of questions about it so I'm going to make a thread to support server hosters with first time set up and other troubleshooting, as well as
to give the devs a thread to get feedback from server owners. Please read the thread before posting problems and note that we cannot resolve actual problems
with your server, as that is between you and your server provider. We can however offer advice and support with running the mod itself.

First Time Setup
  • Upload the folder "The Anglo Zulu war" from your PC's modules folder (found in your mount & blade directory) to the modules folder on your server. Either use an FTP program to transfer all of the individual files or zip up the folder and upload it using an admin web panel (if your server hoster provides one).
  • Make a copy of the text file NW Sample Battle.txt and rename it. For this example, I will use ZULUconfig.txt.
  • Open ZULUconfig.txt and edit the values in there to your preference (Server Name, admin password etc). Note that the server name cannot contain spaces or special characters.
  • Navigate to the section of the config that deals with factions, and change it to match the code shown below*.
  • If you want the config file to control more advanced options that aren't already in the sample config, then see the readme.txt that is included in the same directory as the configs.
  • Save the ZULUconfig.txt and close it.
  • Now that the config file and mod are installed, all that remains is for you to change the command line that starts your server. See the "Command Line" below**. (Note: This part differs depending on your server provider. If you are unable to change the command line yourself, submit a support ticket asking them to do it for you.
  • If you are hosting it from a dedicated server box that you own and manage yourself, or a locally hosted server (on your PC), then you'll need to create an exception in the server/pc firewall and/or your router's firewall if locally hosted.

Regiments / NW Regiment Names in AZW
« on: January 09, 2013, 11:41:10 pm »
Sup. After seeing a couple of new regiments in AZW get shot down by their NW counterparts, I feel obliged to make this thread.

I know the devs are looking to encourage players and regiments from NW to come on over and join the AZW funtrain, but I also think that it's causing a bit too much of a problem. I propose you give a deadline date whereby current NW Regiments can reserve their name, and after which any unclaimed name becomes fair game in AZW. I say this because from what I've seen it's NW regiments claiming they want the name even when they don't play the mod, just to stop other people having the name. If an NW Regiment wants to claim their name in AZW they should post a thread in this forum just like the rest of the community has to.

Opinions?

The  Event will be held every Tuesday, with sign-ups starting at 7.30pm on the TS listed below. The event will start at 8pm GMT.
Due to the current small number of regiments within the mod, for now I'll also allow sign ups via the thread if you wish to book your place early.

So this will be one of the first events within AZW, which means things will most likely not run smoothly at the start. There's going to be a lot of balancing, adjusting of rules etc as we discover
ways to make the events fairer and more importantly, more fun. To that end, please expect there to be delays, resets and such as you help in the development of the mod.
Below are the current rulesets, but please watch this space is they may change.

General Rules

1. The number of troops you sign up is the number you get.
You can bring less (and it won't be balanced), but you can't bring more.
2. No ramboing.
3. Be respectful to your fellow players.
4. Any teamkilling/hitting should be reported to an admin.

British
  • Maximum of 1 Officer per Regiment.
  • Maximum of 1 Sapper per Regiment.
  • Must stand in line but may use a loose formation (1 man gap, not skirmishing).
  • Can only fire whilst standing still, but may move whilst reloading (applies to cavalry too).
  • May deploy into buildings/defences (crouching and irregular formation).
  • May not pick up Zulu weapons.
Zulu
  • Not required to use a formation but must stay together in a group.
  • A mixed tribe may take 2 Riflemen for ever 10 players they have.
  • May crouch at any time, use natural cover as needed.
  • Must not pick up British weapons. The 4 riflemen are exempt from this.
  • Must be at least half naked.

Class Limits

British Foot - None
British Cavalry - 12

Zulu Melee - None
Zulu Riflemen - 8
Zulu Mixed - None (see Zulu rule 2 above)

S I G N I N G   U P   Y O U R   R E G I M E N T

Signing ups will be done generally on a first-come-first-serve basis, but due to balancing numbers and such I cannot guarantee anyone that they will get
what they signed up for. I'm expecting most people to sign up as British and as you may or may not realise, we need more Zulus than British. I'll always endeavour
to make sure that the teams are swapped around weekly so that you will get to play as your chosen class at some point.

If you wish to sign up your Regiment, please use the following form. The contact Steam profile is so that I may contact you if needed.

General Information Regarding the Zulus

The organization of the Zulu army was profoundly different to its professional British counterpart, a part-time citizen militia, the means by which a nation of herdsmen came together periodically in national service. At the heart of the system were guilds known as amabutho (sing. ibutho). The amabutho were a means of exercising central control over the most productive element in the group – its young men – and prior to the emergence of the Zulu kingdom in the 1820s, each chiefdom had raised its own amabutho.

Every two or three years, young men who had reached their late teens since the previous call up were gathered together at the royal homestead and formed into a unit. They were given a regimental name, told to wear a specific uniform of feathers and furs on ceremonial occasions, and older men were appointed as officers over them. These units then served as the chiefdom’s labour gang, police force, hunting-parties, and army. Although housed in special settlements while assembled, there was no infrastructure to support them for extended periods, and it was usual for them to disperse and return to their homes when they had performed their appointed tasks.

Even in 1879, the Zulu army was seldom mobilised for more than two or three weeks at a time. With the rise of the Zulu kings, individual chiefdoms within the kingdom ceased to raise their own amabutho, and the right to do so became the prerogative of the king. The amabutho of 1879 numbered hundreds or even thousands of men apiece, and were quartered when mustered in large royal homesteads known as amakhanda –‘heads’, meaning of royal authority. A robust military ethic prevailed among them, they were jealous of their honours and distinctions, and scuffles between amabutho were common. The king supplied cattle from the royal herds – matched by the colour of their hides – from which uniformed war-shields were made; but each man provided his own striking weapons. The long-bladed, thick hafted stabbing spear of King Shaka’s day remained the favourite, although by 1879 many men had also obtained obsolete firearms, which were imported into the country in large numbers by white traders.

The common age of the members of each ibutho encouraged a strong sense of belonging, and the obligation to serve continued into old age. Nevertheless, the burden fell more heavily on younger men who had not yet married and assumed dependents of their own. Marriage was an important rite of passage within Zulu society, since it marked the point at which a man left his father’s homestead and established one of his own. As a result, the Zulu kings assumed the right to dictate when the men of an ibutho were allowed to marry, often delaying permission until the men were in their mid- 30s, so as to maximise the period of direct service. Once married, Zulu men marked the shift in status by binding a ring of fibre and gum in their hair. Although they continued to recognise allegiance to their ibutho, married men were only required to assemble for national ceremonies or in times of war. Most of the men who fought at Isandlwana were young and unmarried; the older, married men formed the reserve on the day of the battle, and it was they who went on to attack Rorke’s Drift.

Since there was no organised supply system – an army on the march lived off the land – the Zulus were committed to a concept of short campaigns with decisive battles, which had prevailed since Shaka’s time. Their favourite battlefield tactic – possibly invented by King Shaka himself – was an encircling formation known as ‘the horns of the bull’, in which fast-moving flanking parties, ‘the horns’, swept out to surround the enemy and pin it in place for an attack by a strong central body known as ‘the chest’. It was a tactic designed to bring large numbers of men swiftly and efficiently into combat, and reflected the Zulu dependence on close quarter stabbing weapons. It was a dependence that made the Zulu army acutely vulnerable to the fire-power of a concentrated enemy – and while it had proved devastatingly effective against the scattered garrison at Isandlwana, its limitations were highlighted that same day by the Zulus’ inability to overcome the entrenched garrison at Rorke’s Drift. It is the tragedy of the Zulu people that the British were quick to spot that lesson and, in the later battles of the war, profit by it.

Regiments / ♔ The British Army ♔
« on: November 11, 2012, 07:32:38 pm »

Welcome to the British Army's thread. The British Army is a community of British (in-game) regiments that have come together to try and bolster inter-regiment relations as well as organise battles both within and outside of the Army.

This current thread is just a precursor to a larger and prettier thread that I will be working on.

♔ FAQ ♔

How will the British Army be organised?

The Army itself will be more like a structured community. Regiments that join will be put into a brigade and then their point of contact will be the Brigadier General
of that particular brigade. If no Colonels within the brigade wish to become the Brigadier General then one of them will be appointed as acting Brigadier General,
despite still retaining the Colonel rank.

Will my Regiment have to wear tags or use a specific teamspeak?

The simple answer is no. It is not required that you change your tags, but it is up to the Colonels within a brigade whether or not they want to have special tags
(take for example 5th Brigade using 5Brg_). As for the teamspeak, there will be an official British Army teamspeak and every regiment will have their own channel
within it; but it is completely up to you whether or not you use it. I am more than happy for regiments or brigades to have their own TS server if they wish.

Will we get to do Army battles and events?

Absolutely. One of my main goals in creating this is building a solid foundation on which regiments can set up quick and easy short notice battles with each other,
as well as benefit from training. As for Army battles, if there was a battle scheduled, then the regiments within the BA would be able to sign up to it in advance.
Taking part in trainings and battles is not compulsory, and so regiments may take part as much or as little as they want. The whole idea of this is to enjoy the
game, so what's the point in playing if you don't want to?

Can you provide us with a teamspeak and game server?

As mentioned previously, the BA will have an official TS server and we will also be able to provide a couple of servers for trainings and events. We do howevver, have
a deal with our server provider where any regiment in the BA who buys a server of 100 slots or more gets 10% off! Cheap as chips!

How does my regiment apply?

I aim to keep the BA open as the whole idea is to bring regiments together to enjoy the game as opposed to be elitist and only allow large super-serious regiments in.
We accept any active regiments, although there will be a trial period of 1 month where you are evaluated on whether or not you are suitable for the Army. This is just
to keep the BA an enjoyable place to be and stop regiments taking advantage of what we offer without really doing anything for the community. If you would like to
apply, then please contact myself over Steam, or post in the thread below with the following:
