Riddle Poetry
« on: March 10, 2013, 11:59:36 pm »
I've spent 4+ hours solidly moderating today, so I've decided it's time to let my hair down a bit.

The purpose of this thread is a combined Riddle/Poetry thread. Riddles/Small poems may be posted by a user, and the other posters get one guess per post to guess who or what the poem/riddle is about. Once the Riddle/Poem poster acknowledges a correct answer, the next person to jump in with a Riddle/Poem becomes the next Riddle/Poem poster, until their riddle has been answered correctly.

I'll start with a relatively easy/topical one.

Alone I stand in a sea of Thunder,
On the Ocean resides my shield,
But also my greatest Foe,
Every continent has borne my banner.

What am I?

Actual answer was Colonial Britain, I'll accept Britain alone, though.

I had a beginning, but will have no end.
I control your life whether you want me to or not.
I am everywhere but not necessarily the same in every spot.
Once every year I fast forward and rewind.

What am I?

Its decent I guess, made it up on the spot.

Time?

That's assuming Fast Forward & Rewind refers to the Summertime/Winter-time daylight savings shift.

At night they come without being fetched.
By day they are lost without being stolen.

Oh you wanted a serious response, why didn't you just say so.

Or any other nocturnal animal, really. Bats?

I lay on counters
Often forgotten
Sometimes scribbled on
More likely besodden
