87th Realism event
About the realism event
The realism linebattle is going to be different in many ways compared to the traditional linebattles we play.
Regiments will be forced to work more closely together.
There will be a more extensive ruleset implemented then the ones we are used to following in the traditional linebattles. Understanding these rules is crucial. This line battle will focus on realism of how lines maneuvered and worked together.
Important to know we will host this once a month on the last SaturdayIn the past there were a some events that focused on a certain battle or focused on a more realistic rule set.
Those events were a blast! Since there is a lack of these events in the Community, we want to introduce it again. To give you a sense on what we are going for check out the vids and pictures below

General rule set (most is common sense)
- Each Line company Must bring at least 10 Riflemen plus Officer.
- To keep this realistic there will no reticles and no banners
- Each line Company (NW regiment) must assemble in double ranks (or the historically accurate column marching for each nation provided they have ten or more men)
- No fewer than 3 NW Regiments will be paired up to make a Line Regiment and will be commanded by an Officer of the Generals Staff. (there may be scenarios where we tea up only 2 regiments for balance reasons or so)
- Each LINE REGIMENT is made up of at least 3 NW regs. 1 taking Guard, 1 standard line which takes the Reg Colours and 1 Light Inf or another standard Line on the discretion of the admin.
- Each line Regiment must have at least one flag bearer (British regiments can take a regimental flag and the king's colours) and at least one musician. (These may be assigned by the regiment commander before the battle or during the battle).
example:
General
Commander Commander
Light infantry - Center company (colors) - Grenadier company Line infantry - Center company (colors) - Grenadier company
- Each regiment must march forward in half-step (walking / use the shift key) unless the regiment is charging ,retreating, or wheeling into position. Regiments can move at double-step (running) for a short period of time (no more than 30 seconds).
- Each side will have one General in command of the whole side. Each Line regiment will be commanded by someone selected out of all of the commanders from that Regiment .
Command will be rotated each event so the commanders of each NW reg can experience the thrill and calamity that goes with the position. - Each General is Responsible and has the freedom to form up their Order of Battle. And thus assign regiments together. They must provide this info to the admins so they can update this on the forums and group.
- Line infantry must fight shoulder to shoulder with no spaces.
Skirmishers may have up to a 5 man interval between troops.
a) Skirmishing is the ability to hide behind natural cover.
- Cav, artillery and Skirms will be selected by admins if the scenario calls for them.
- Artillery and arty guards acts as light infantry if they lose their guns but may reclaim at will. the amount of Guns artillery can take will be based upon the scenario and the discretion of Admins.

- Cav may skirmish when dismounted or mounted with no more that 5 man spacing between troopers.
- Lines of 3 or less must fall back to another line or stand and die.
- 3 or less left on a side all rules go out the window.
- FOL is NOT PERMITTED!
- Maintain unit cohesion in a charge i.e. don’t fan out halfway across the map you can try to dodge bullets but please keep charging until a halt is called.
- There will be dedicated admins
- Admin is always right. If you feel they are wrong then kindly ask questions about how it is wrong.
- Punishment is warning, slaying, then banning. Always will be in that order.
- Making fun of and or discriminating against other units will result in the kicking and possible banning of the individual who is doing said infraction.
- Always contact the admin through steam privately with any complaints about other regiments.
- If a remainder of a regiment reforms with a skirmish or light company they may adopt that fighting stance i.e. join a skirmish line take that interval of spacing.

“Tactical” Pre-Planning Rules
A week before the battle, regiments will be allowed to sign up for the battle, and are expected to provide rough estimates of troops they can muster. Event organizers will split the regiments
A few days before the battle (to be determined), two regimental commanders (generals for the opposing sides) will get to tour the battlefield (a pre-made map) and be briefed on the objectives and victory conditions.
Each general will have 24-48 hours to consult with their general staffs (5 other players chosen at the general's discretion) to plan their attack or defense. Once the plan is decided, it's up to the general and his staff to disseminate the plan down to lower-level officers and NCOs so everyone has a general idea of what they're doing (which will hopefully avoid the whole “let's just line up behind this rock and run off”)
All regiments will agree to follow these rules before joining the linebattle list. AND ABOVE ALL HAVE FUN!!!!!

The Battle Of Marengo
The battle, a major engagement of the French Revolutionary Wars (wars of the Second Coalition), started developing in the early morning hours of 14 June 1800 and saw the almighty confrontation on the field of honour between the French forces under the sound leadership of Bonaparte, so far acting in the role of prominent figure also on the political scene at Paris, and the Austrian war machine handled with a renewed profusion of zeal by the talented Marshal Melas. Having crossed the Alps at the Great Saint Bernard Pass in May 1800, the French army (totalling nearly 28,000 men) rapidly descended to the plains of Northern Italy.
After the heavily disputed success reported on the Habsburgs troops at Montebello, near Casteggio, the French completed their deployment on the surrounding countries of Fraschetta and around a wretched village named Marengo, a wild environment located some miles from the town of Alessandria.
The 14th day of June, the violence and the stubborn determination of the offensive of the Imperial regiments of Melas overthrew, after long-enduring phases of attrition and hand-to-hand savage combats, the shaken troops of Bonaparte. However, after an inevitable withdrawal had been executed for some miles eastwards – defeat seemed certain; but the strategic situation rapidly changed for the French host, and the battle was reversed. The counter-attack of the French tactical reserve, lead by Général de Division Desaix de Veygoux was launched, from the neighbouring area of the village of Saint Giuliano Vecchio,
His ultimate intervention brought fresh resources to the front-line and changed the tide of battle for the French.
A lively cannonade threw back the Austrian right wing, and a cavalry charge leaded by the intrepid François Etienne Kellermann had awful results on the ranks of the Imperial Feld Bataillone.
Losses were severe to the belligerents: the French troops lost some 5800 men; the Austrians, 9400.
The battle ended in a French victory; negotiations led to the Austrians evacuating the plains of Northern Italy up to the line of the Ticino River. Military operations in Italy were suspended. However, the Danubian monarchy remained at war with France; but on December 3, 1800, the Habsburgs eagles were defeated by General Jean Victor Moreau’army at the battle of Hohenlinden.
