Summary.
One of three Seebataillons formed before their desolution in 1918, the second Seebataillon was permenantly based at Wilhemshaven. From there it would participate first in the Franco-Prussian war, but also in the Boxer rebellion in China.
S.M.S Gazelle was the Barracks ship of the II. Seebataillon during the Franco-Prussian war, acting as a welcome home for the men of the regiment.
They also participated with distiction in the first world war, fighting in every major campaign of western front, from Ypers, to Antwerp, to the Somme.
