Regiments (Game Clans) / The Army of the Potomac

The Army of the Potomac

ABOUT US
The Army of the Potomac is an organized formation of Union and Neutral Regiments to help coordinate ourselves in game only during events to help give our side a sense of structure and organization that has been missing since the Heritage Rifles events. Unlike how these style organizations worked in Mount and Blade and more recently Battle Cry of Freedom, this only affects our associated units in game and no one unit or person hold power over the rest. If you are in or run a regiment in this game and are interested in joining, then please by all means post below and we would be happy to have you in our group. We are open to Union and Neutral units as of the moment.

HISTORY

Historically, The Army of the Potomac was formed on July 26th, 1861 after the defeat of it's predecessor The Army of Northeastern Virginia was defeated at the Battle of First Manassas on July 21st, 1861. The Army of the Potomac would be pitted against multiple Confederate Armies throughout the war including The Army of the Potomac, The Army of Northern Virginia and The Army of the Shenandoah. The Army of the Potomac would be involved in some the most influential and devastating battles of the conflict including the Battle of Antietam which saw 12,410 casualties, the Battle of Gettysburg which saw 32,043 casualties and the Overland Campaign that saw 54,926 casualties. The Army of the Potomac would also be the army to finally defeat General Robert E. Lee and see his armies surrender at Appomattox Courthouse on April 8th, 1865. The Army of the Potomac would disband on June 28th, 1865 after it's Grand Review in Washington D.C.

In Game however, The Army of the Potomac was formed on August 13th, 2022. The units of our group can trace their time in this style of game back to Mount and Blade Warband whether it was Napoleonic Wars or North and South. With the current state of the game it was apparent that we needed a Union organization that was organized and structured in a way to not infringe upon the members of the unit but to also give us the ability to coordinate and not be split apart constantly. So the 1st MN, 1st NJ and 2nd MD came together to form this unit.

ABOUT US
We are a laid back casual unit who has been around since May 2014 with Commanders and Players from Secession, North and South and NW, as well as War of Rights and Battle Cry of Freedom. In our unit we require no mandatory trainings, no minimum attendance and constant rank progression so that every event you attend does even more for you. We are tight knit community that has lasted for 8 years and counting and have no plans on going anywhere anytime soon. So if this sounds like the unit for you ENLIST TODAY!

HISTORY

The regiment was raised in Connaught by John Thomas de Burgh, 13th Earl of Clanricard as the 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers), in response to the threat posed by the French Revolution, on 25 September 1793. The regiment was sent to join the Duke of York's army in the Netherlands in summer 1794 as part of the unsuccessful defence of that country against the Republican French during the Flanders Campaign. The regiment embarked for the West Indies in autumn 1795 and, after a difficult voyage, two companies took part in the capture of Grenada and the siege of Saint Lucia before returning to England in summer 1796. The regiment then embarked for India in January 1799 and arrived in Bombay in June 1800. The regiment sailed from India for Egypt in December 1800 for service in the Egyptian Campaign reaching Cairo on the day that the French troops surrendered. It arrived back in England in May 1803.

The 1st Battalion landed in Portugal in March 1809 for service in the Peninsular War. It formed part of the Portuguese forces commanded by General William Beresford, 1st Viscount Beresford tasked with removing Marshal Jean-de-Dieu Soult from Oporto. It held firm at the top of Medellin hill at the Battle of Talavera in July 1809. Then, at the Battle of Bussaco in September 1810, the battalion, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel John Wallace, together with a detachment of the 45th Regiment of Foot, made a bayonet charge which sent the French troops reeling. Sir Arthur Wellesley, arriving at the scene, said,
Wallace, I never saw a more gallant charge than that just now made by your regiment.

The 1st Battalion then retreated, with the rest of Wellesley's army, to the Lines of Torres Vedras. The battalion, still under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Wallace made another bayonet charge at the Battle of Fuentes de Oñoro in May 1811 and drove the French Army from the village. It went on to fight at the Siege of Ciudad Rodrigo in January 1812 and scaled the walls of the fortress at the Siege of Badajoz in April 1812. At the Battle of Salamanca in July 1812 the battalion was at the centre of the brigade as it advanced and routed the French troops. At Salamanca the battalion captured an old Moorish standard adorned with crescents and bells: the standard, more correctly known as a Turkish crescent, became known in the regiment as the "Jingling Johnny".

Enlist In The 2nd Maryland Volunteer Infantry Today!

ABOUT US
We are the 2nd Maryland Volunteer Infantry or "The Maryland Line". We are fighting for what our fore fathers fought for. Our Rights! We are fighting for the preservation of the union. President Abe has called for 75,000 volunteers let us send support. He has sent 10,000 men to guard us may we join the cause. If we should still have our property may we defend it from the rebels! We are now embroiled in a fight not only to Preserve the Great State of Maryland but in a war, in this our Civil War. In the days of the revolution Washington saw Maryland troops as the elites, "The Old Line" and know we must prove it again!Enlist Today!

We are a USA/CSA unit as Maryland was a split state and to avoid the confusion of a Union and Confederate 2nd Maryland. We welcome all who wish to join our unit and as we are made up of Native Marylanders we especially encourage Marylanders to join. We are a relaxed unit where ranks, regimental drama, and bureaucracy will not kill your experience. We wish to avoid the many things that were common grievances is the North and South and War of Rights communities.

This also covers insulting someone, racism, retaliation in-game, bullying, trolling and discrimination. At all times you are representing the Company and must show the highest level of maturity.

2. They must follow orders. This is extremely vital as you must follow orders given by your Commanding Officer or Superior, and must be done so without argument or hesitation. If you don't agree with the tactics being used by your Superior there is a time and place to bring your point forward. During events is not the time and you must respect their decisions.

3. They must learn and train to become proficiently skilled soldier in tactics as well as skill. They must be able to act as line, skirms, cav, arty, and other. Must know melee and shooting skills. Learn how to charge and group fight as a team. Show No Mercy!

4. They must remain active to be a useful contributor to the Company, attend trainings and events when you can and if not please inform us so that we know. There is always room for everyone and their schedules.

4.5 Officers must be as and more disciplined than the Enlisted. They must know how to command, stay focused on the battle and not scream and yell random topics with the soldiers, and must make split second decisions while in battle.

5. Extreme behavior and discipline is to be shown at all times no matter where you are. During line battles there is to be no head banging, fidgeting in line and aiming your weapon at a teammate. Members must use the Permission to Speak (PTS) system during events if requested by the commander. This is to avoid anyone speaking over the Commanding Officer when commands are being given and PTS must not be abused. During line battles the main chat is not be used by anyone except the Commander.

6. Have Fun And Don’t Be A Scrub!
