M&B: Warband - Napoleonic Wars / Grenadiers à cheval de la Garde impériale
« on: September 04, 2015, 07:08:14 pm »

A part of the Republican Consular Guard, the Grenadiers became the senior "Old Guard" heavy cavalry regiment when the Imperial Guard was founded, in 1804. Their priviledged position the whole army -and even the Guard- had envied. Below is a short history of this splendid unit. In 1796 the Guard of Directory (Garde du Directoire) was organized and one squadron of Horse Grenadiers was raised. Soon Napoleon enlarged the troop to two and then to four squadrons.

Rarely committed to battle during the Napoleonic Wars, they were usually kept in Reserve, alongside the Emperor, during the most significant battles of 1804-1815. When sent into action, such as during the battles of Marengo, Austerlitz, Eylau, Hanau or Waterloo, as well as during a number of actions of 1814, results were usually impressive.

Marengo

The first true engagement of the unit took place in dramatic circumstances during the War of the Second Coalition, at Marengo. As First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte was losing the battle against the Austrians, Louis Desaix's French division appeared on the field of battle. As Desaix's men charged, two separate cavalry charges helped change the course of the battle: Kellermann's brigade deployed skillfully on the Austrian right, before charging and breaking everything in its way, and on the Austrian left Bessières organised a massive charge with the whole Consular Guard cavalry and increased the panic and rout of the enemy troops. The Horse Grenadiers waited calmly under fire. 'Keep your chins up!' shouted their sergeants. Moments later they drew their sabers and charged overthrowing everything on their way.

Austerlitz

During this battle, Napoleon had planned to break the Austro-Russian centre and thus split their forces. The plan was well under way towards mid morning but a potentially dangerous situation for the French occurred when the Russian Imperial Guard under Grand Duke Constantine arrived and attacked the French from Vandamme's division around Stary Vinohrady ('the old vineyards'). At first, one battalion of the French 4th Line regiment was caught in an awkward position and broken by the Russian Guard cavalry supported by artillery, with the French battalion losing its eagle and over 400 men. Then, the 24th Light regiment, which was coming up in support of the 4th, was also thrown back in disarray. It was at this moment that Napoleon sent in his Guard cavalry: 4 squadrons, 423 men, of the Chasseurs à Cheval and Mameluke regiment and 4 squadrons, 706 men, of the Grenadiers à Cheval regiment, with a battery of Guard horse artillery in support. The grenadiers charged vigorously and clashed with the Russian Chevalier Guard regiment. After a short mêlée, the horse grenadiers broke the opponent, inflicting heavy casualties. In this battle they defeated Tsar's best cavalry. The Horse Grenadiers advanced from behind infantry clutching their long sabers and shouting. The fight was sharp but short. The Russians were thrown back and pursued until Krenowitz. Russian Guard Cavalry was defeated and only Repnin's squadron continued its desperate fight. The surrounded Russians suffered heavy casualties.

Eylau

The Emperor thus ordered Marshal Murat to launch the entire reserve cavalry into a massive charge. At first, Murat led forward two dragoons and one cuirassiers divisions and these men pierced the Russian line and carried on beyond, only to find themselves behind enemy lines and in serious danger of being surrounded. As a result, the Emperor ordered Marshal Bessières to help the stranded reserve cavalry and thus a second cavalry charge ensued, spearheaded by the Chasseurs à Cheval and followed by the heavy cavalry of the 5th cuirassiers and Grenadiers à Cheval. Commanding the horse grenadiers was colonel Lepic who superbly led two squadrons of the regiment, as they stormed through the first and second Russian lines, stopping only in front of the enemy reserves. As the handful of horse grenadiers arrived in front of this third enemy line, they were all but surrounded and the Russians at once demanded that they surrender. Lepic defiantly retorted: "Have a look at my men and tell me if they look like ones who want to surrender!" and he immediately ordered a charge, hacking his way back to his own lines. The regiment lost 4 officers dead and 14 officers wounded, as well as a large number of troopers, but the charge of the Guard cavalry did allow their fellow reserve cavalry to break their encirclement and get back to their original positions.

The Grenadiers á Cheval stood under hellish fire from 60 Russian cannons, when their commander General Lepic noted some of his troopers ducking incoming shells. "Heads up, by God!" he cried "Those are bullets - not turds." Few moments later they charged and overthrew several Russian units.

The Peninsular Wars

The horse grenadiers shortly campaigned in Spain. Not big battles just a lot of problems with the Spanish guerillas. Henri Lachoque writes: "A squadron of horse grenadiers tethered their horses in the garden of a monastery and fell into a trap. Lured by an urchin to 'come in and quench his thirst', one trooper did not return. A grenadier who went in search of him also disappeared. Some men of their troop returning from a foraging detail conducted an investigation, sabers in hand. They found the child, followed him, and discovered their two comrades with their heads cut off. They arrested 8 monks and threw them all out of the window."

The Russian Campaign

In 1812 the horse grenadiers were in Russia. Chlapowski writes: "There then appeared the Horse Grenadiers, in line formation. This line of black horses, its tall riders also in black bearskins, so impressed the Cossacks that they disappeared into the forest." Ten patrols of horse grenadies guarded the inside of the Kremlin.

Battle of Waterloo

In the very end of the battle of Waterloo, when the entire French army fell apart before the Prussians and British-Netherland army, the horse grenadiers made a great impression on the pursuers. Cpt. Barton of the 12th Light Dragoons described how his regiment advanced against the giants on black horses. The grenadiers "appeared to take but little notice of our advance, when opposite their flank they fired a few pistol or carbine shots. We were ... being too weak to make an impression [on them], they literally walked from the field in a most majestic manner."

In November 1815 the regiment was disbanded. On 25 November for the last time their trumpeters sounded the Ban. The standard-bearer advanced to the Inspector and presented the standard. It was the last unit of the whole Imperial Guard (infantry, cavalry, and artillery) disbanded by the Bourbons.

The Guard was no more.

Leib Grenadier Regiment König Friedrich Wilhelm III (1.Brandenburgisches) Nr.8

Overview

We are a infantery regiment of Iron Europe, we are part of the Simulation community Nova Simulatio. We are all spanish speakers and we only recruit spanish speakers no matter their nationality. We reacreate as much as we can while we are having fun too, there is not required to join other regiments of simulatio nova to join this one.

History

The regiment owes its existence to the military disaster of 1806. After the battle of Jena and Auerstädt against the troops of Emperor Napoleon I and the following defeats and surrenders the commander of the fortress of Kolberg, Colonel von Lucadou began in November 1806 the establishment of the "Provisional Pomeranian grenadier battalion." This battalion, which soon after its commander, Captain Baron. was v. Wald Rock, named, consisted mainly of the remains of the regiments Pirch (No. 22) and vac. Puttkammer (No. 36) associated Grenadier Battalion East, which had officially surrendered at Prenzlau. However, at that time many soldiers fled across the Prussian army from French captivity, made their way on their own and rallied back to take up the fight again. Kolberg was one of the few forts that held the French state.

Until the conclusion of the armistice in July 1807 the fortress was steadfast (from April 1807) defend von Gneisenau under the new military commander and later reformers Neidhardt. From the Infantry Battalion Forest Rock, the second Pomeranian and 3 Neumark reserve battalion and the battalion of light v. Schill were placed on 26.08.1808 two new formations that have been appointed in recognition of their services to the body with body Infantry Regiment Grenadier Battalion and was one of the Garden. (First) bosses were always the Prussian kings until 1918. Second chiefs were later inside the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Alexandrine (1865-1892) and Alexandra (1892-1918).

In the Napoleonic wars 1812/14, the regiment in numerous skirmishes and battles was constantly fighting and moved to Paris. In the battle of Wartenberg (3 October 1813) is the II Battalion recorded heavy losses from the rest. During the subsequent parade of General von York this took off his hat with the words: "This is the brave battalion II, before the whole world must have respect". In the battle of Leipzig, the Second Battalion captured a drum stick, it led to 1918.

After Napoleon's return in 1815, the regiment fought at Ligny and Waterloo.

In the revolution of 1848, the body-Grenadierein were used to street fighting in Berlin and received - as well as the then Prince and future Emperor and King William ("grapeshot Prince") - a nickname: "the bloodhounds."

1860 the king gave the regiment the signature FWR on the epaulettes and awarded the body Grenadier Regiment. 1861 is renamed Body Guard Grenadiers Regiment (1st Brandenburg) No 8 and the presentation of the III for signature in memory of the founder, King Frederick William III, whose name gets 1889 as an addition.

In the War of 1864 against Denmark, Brandenburg stormed the entrenchments III and VII with chaff, the brigade commander, General von Raven fell.

As part of the first Army under Prince Friedrich Karl took the body Grenadiers part in the campaign of 1866 against Austria. In the battle of Gitschin the regiment fought bravely against numerically superior Austrians and Saxons - and thereby won another victory. Because of this suffered heavy losses, especially among the officers, it was hardly involved in a few days later held Battle of Hradec Kralove as a reserve, but moved in the following period until the gates of Vienna.

In the war against France 1870/71, the body Grenadiers were distinguished in many skirmishes and battles, especially in Spichern, Vionville, Gravelotte, Orleans and Le Mans.

Clans / 212th Attack Battalion [Bear Force II]

212th Attack Battalion

The 212th Attack Battalion was a Grand Army unit of clone troopers under the leadership of Clone Commander Cody and Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Troopers assigned to the 212th were distinguished by the orange markings on their Phase II battle armor. Composed of smaller units such as Ghost Company, the 2nd Airborne Company and Parjai Squad, the overall 212th Battalion was attached to the 7th Sky Corps, a division within the Third Systems Army.
Throughout the Clone Wars, the clone soldiers of the 212th fought in numerous battles across the galaxy and participated in the Republic attack on the planet Utapau in 19 BBY. During this battle, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine—the public persona of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious—issued Order 66 and sentenced the entire Jedi Order to summary execution. Like most of Clone Army, Commander Cody and the 212th troopers obeyed the order, and unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate General Kenobi. Shortly afterward, the Republic was reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, a New Order under the absolute rule of the newly-anointed Emperor Palpatine. The 212th, along with the rest of the remaining clone units, served as the basis of the Stormtrooper Corps.

History

Though commanded by Commander Cody, the 212th Attack Battalion was also led by High Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, who developed a friendship with the battalion commander during the Clone Wars.
During the Battle of Christophsis, Commander Cody and the 212th aided Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. After being breached unexpectedly by droid forces, it was soon revealed that one of their brothers was a traitor. Cody helped Rex hunt down the traitor who was none other then Slick. During the Separatist counter attack, the 212th Battalion, along with Torrent Company, helped beat back droid forces.

In the Battle of Teth, the battalion went with Kenobi to aid Anakin Skywalker and the remainder of Torrent Company, and later helped defeat the droid forces under command of Asajj Ventress.

In the Battle of Ryloth, Ghost Company helped Kenobi eliminate several proton cannons to allow ground invasion forces to land. After encountering starved gutkurrs, the squad created a diversion while Kenobi and troopers Waxer and Boil helped the general destroy the cannons, and the Acclamator assault ships were able to land. The invasion forces were able to land, and marched to the capital city of Lessu and liberate the planet from Separatist enslavement.

In the Second Battle of Geonosis, General Kenobi, Cody and the 212th were the first to land on Geonosis. Kenobi crashed, Cody sent Waxer and Boil to retrieve Kenobi from enemy lines and return with the wounded Jedi Master. They were able to hold out against the Geonosians until Generals Skywalker's 501st and Ki-Adi-Mundi's forces arrived with air support.

In the Battle of Umbara, General Kenobi's forces were among many to attack the world and siege the capital. Obi-Wan called on General Pong Krell, who was the interim commander of the 501st in Skywalker's absence, to help aid the siege through various means. While the 212th primarily sieged the capital itself, Krell ordered a platoon led by Waxer to search the forests for enemy guerrillas disguised in 501st armor, unaware that the 501st were given the same order. The 212th and 501st cut each other down with blaster fire and mortars until the Catptain in charge of the 501st realized they were shooting at fellow clones. Waxer had been fatally wounded but was able to tell Rex that Krell gave the order. The survivors of the platoon joined the 501st in attacking and capturing, at great cost, the traitor, General Krell.

On Cato Neimoidia, General Kenobi, Commander Cody, and the elite Squad Seven breached Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray's fortress and secured vital data that began the hunt for Darth Sidious.

When General Kenobi was tasked with tracking down and eliminating the Separatist Supreme Commander, General Grievous, he took two battalions with him to the Utapau system—one of which was Cody's unit. Cody's commandos stormed Grievous's stronghold on the tenth level of Pau City, and kept his droid forces at bay while Kenobi faced the General himself in single combat. The clones would take heavy casualties in the battle, mainly due to the superior numbers of droids, but would eventually gain the advantage.

Although Obi-Wan defeated Grievous, matters took a turn for the worse when Darth Sidious transmitted Order 66 to Cody. An AT-TE walker opened fire on the general, sending him to his apparent death hundreds of feet below. The clones went on to destroy the remaining battle droid forces on Utapau, and, as per the new Emperor's orders, subjugated the planet.
