June 2019

Beginning of May, the 17th was stationed at the Leicester barracks where Colonel Daniel Carrick with the support of his fellow officers and NCO's have been hard at work drilling daily to prepare the company for battle. As the regiment expands new positions within the company have become available, therefore the appointment of two new Lance Corporals was authorised. These newly promoted men were now tasked with facilitating of the enlisted men in all of their duties, thus making the regiment poised for battle.

Over the ensuing weeks, Colonel Daniel Carrick received orders to mobilize the 17th, now on the march conflict was not far away. First, they were engaged in a large skirmish against the 23rd, this battle was short and decisive resulting in a clean victory for the 17th. Now a taste for battle and high spirits the 17th marched forth once more. Nearing to the end of the month they found conflict with the 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot, Col Daniel Carrick, Cpt Edward Fraser and Lt James Love knowing the reputation of the opponents knew there was a hard road ahead. The 17th on the attack forced them into a decisive field battle, as the battle commences it looked like it could go either way. Both regiments suffered from heavy losses due to devastating volleys. Unfortunately for the 17th, the turning point for the 15th was their impressive close quarter melee ability which ultimately overpowered the less experienced 17th to deal the final blow. To seal off the end of the month for the regiment we met the 59th Regiment of Foot in the field. Both regiments inflicting major damage by both shooting and melee, as the battle commenced no side was willing to back down, both leaders constantly testing one another, this was a battle to remember. Due to both regiments performance on this day, a victor didn't emerge leaving the two regiments in a stalemate.

On the last day of the month, it was decided that an internal duel tournament would take place to celebrate the success of the regiment over the past month. As a reward of winning the tournament, the victor will be presented with the prestigious Garter Cross medal as well as the recognition of being the best duelist within the regiment. Therefore twelve of the regiments finest were chosen to participate in the tournament to see who is worthy enough to claim this honour.

After an outstanding performance by all the participants, a victor was crowned.
Congratulations to Cpt Edward Fraser on winning the tournament and receiving the Garter Cross.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - May has been a very busy month for our regiment. We have had plenty of events to test our skills against other regiments which have been quite enjoyable. I'm quite satisfied with how we are coming along as a regiment and this month has been a great example of how far we have come. I eagerly await the challenges before us.

Captain Edward Fraser - So now into the second month of the regiment its been good so far as we've got a steady amount of members attending both comp and casual events. As seen by recent match results I can see a lot of improvement in our formations and discipline, therefore, performing very well against the 15thYR despite the loss. Going into June I hope we can correct our mistakes and work on becoming that much stronger as a regiment and community.

Lieutenant James Love - After a whole two months I can say I am extremely pleased with the stability in terms of attendance, discipline and the atmosphere surrounding the regiment. The officer and staff corps is looking tremendously active, structured and generally useful. Competitively-speaking, results have been mixed, however we must look towards the future and not towards the past.
