It's a donation because they need help funding the game and you can't compare it with a preorder since a preorder is a guarantee that you will get the game which a donation is not.

HorseMan thinks this is not true, for the reason that pre orders can start a year or more before the game is actually released and as such could be subject to failure before it comes out just as an crowd funded game can.

HorseMan would also like to note that minecraft's sales were called pre purchase but the project was run completly off of the pre purchases as is the same with BCoF just replace "pre purchases" with "donations"

No. When using the word pre purchase you garantuee the audience a game and if you fail then you have broken a promise. If you donate it's more in the spirit of we will try our best to make the game of what recourses we have.

I don't even see how this is a big issue if you don't have the intention of getting yourself banned after you donated for what ever reason.

I feel that a "donation" is a gift. He along with all donaters donated to the games progress. The access to the donaters board is a perk that comes with it. It shouldn't make you exempt from forums rules.

You can name it what you want, you can call it volountary transactions, peace-pipe handing, however, it does not change the nature of the underlying transaction, which is the important thing in the context.

A donation is a donation. I can donate to Help Africa, most of the money will go into peoples pay packet and some might go to building a well or something. Can i demand my money back because most of it goes to administration which I didn't realize before donating? Nope.  The important thing is, the reality. You where given the peaks/promises whatever else you want to call it as a gift, gratitude as it were.

If they promise to build you a well as well as a well in africa and they fail to make your well, then the answer is yes. As I said, the name of the transaction is unimportant, the nature of the transaction is what matters.

Donating never gives a promise of success.

If you are donating to build a well, no organisation states "I PROMISE TO BUILD U A WELL, PLS DONATE". They say "Please donate to help us build a well" that is massively different. Just as FSE said, help us build a game. You are given shit as a gift out of gratitude. Moreover, they are still building the game, aren't they? I don't see your logic at all. Since you don't have access to the donators board, you deserve your money back? After breaking forum rules? What alcohol are you drinking tonight?   :o

So tell HorseMan, what entitles one person to a refund of their "donation" but not everyone else?

I suppose the fact that he was accused of something he didn't do so FSE refunded his money as a nice gesture and a hope of getting back some reliability
