I still think it is what we in Germany call "brüniert" - google says the translation is blued but that ain't what I mean. The historical version might let the barrel look completly rusted while modern "blued" guns are mostly black. The purpose is to have less afford in cleaning. It was very common with Riflemen (the polished baker rifle in my KGL unit and with the 95th rifles are just authentic for parades) and I think that also fits with an American Militiaman or whoever this guys portrays

I think that this is not blued. That looks like an original to me. Darker metal everywhere, lock, barrel bands and barrel...

Looks like a very old gun.

Not sure if I posted this yet, internet is slow as balls...

Falaise Gap event, post event photo. June 19-21, 2015
[close]

I actually met Munk for the first time at this event, it's good to see my fellow FSE forumites from time to time at events and socialize in person. I reenact an attached sturmpionier to the 29.SS Pz.Gren.Reg. in the 12.SS Pz.D. "Hitlerjugend." While I am not in kit, this was a quick shot I had taken of me. I asked people on the Facebook Living History group to caption this, and so many said this looks like I'm a captured SS trooper being photographed by an American war correspondent before I get executed, haha. What do you guys think? I decolorized the photo then recolorized it for that "authentic photo" look.

Arier? Lol. It's a grown in period-correct haircut. I simulated two weeks of being in the field, which included no shaving for two weeks (luckily my facial hair growth is slow so it wasn't an overbearing two week beard), didn't touch up my hair after getting it cut two weeks before in a proper haircut, didn't shower for three days before the event (to simulate filth from the field)... The picture you see is a combination of these things and two days and a night in a forest with super hot temps. I was constantly sweating, doing pionier work, sentry detail, hiding in bushes, etc. I did the best I can to simulate the look and the result was perfect.
