Those are 100% NOT stripes, but ribbing in the fabric. Any sort of stripes you see are from the drawers colorizing of the illustration.

If those were stripes they'd be a lot less defined then they are in this image as they wouldn't be making those kind of shadows on the uniform.

Yeah, that's the US 1872 Fatigue Coat and here's a real version of what it looks like. (Personally, most Indian War uniforms disappoint me except the Dress Uniform for Infantry.)
