Hello everyone. I am Captain Xbwalker of the 3rdUS Infantry Regiment. I originally took command of this regiment back in 2018 when Maj. Jorsoner retired. Since then, I brought the regiment up to about 200 players with an active list of about 100. Back in early 2020, I left WoR (where we originally were founded) and most of the group went on to do other things. I returned this year and we are back up to 60 active members and growing fast. Now, some information about the 3rdUS!
When reviewed by President Lincoln shortly after the battle at First Manassas, General McDowell told Lincoln, ‘Mr. President, there are the men who saved your army at Bull Run.’
During the battle of Bull Run, the 3rdUS along with the other US Regulars saw tremendous success in the early stages, pushing the Georgians on the confederate right from Matthew's Hill all the way back to Henry Hill where Jackson reorganized the beleagured Confederates and moved forward his Virginians. Next to the 14th Brooklyn, the regulars were some of the most effective and least disorganized troops of the fight. When the Union Army ultimately lost and was in full route, it was the 3rdUS and the regulars that held the rear against possible Confederate attacks so that the army could safely exit the battlefield.
Col. Charles F. Smith, original CO of the 3rdUS, later transferred to the west.
Later, the 3rd would again distinguish itself in the Battle of Gaines' Mill, pushing back Hill's attacks throughout the day. They only pulled back under orders from command when Jackson's troops finally begin to move in on the Union flank.
They went on to fight in other battles alongside the regulars including Gettysburg where they arrived too late to save the Union in the Wheatfield.
Today, the 3rdUS is the only active regiment from the Civil War and is also the oldest regiment in the United States. They guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as run the burial ceremonies at Arlington. They are also the Presidential Guard.
The 3rdUS is proud to be connected to this amazing regiment (though our affiliation is not official). If you are looking to join a regiment with a rich and current history, give us a look. Until BCoF comes out, many of us play WoR (reluctantly) but the entire regiment is switching over on day 1.
