I don’t think it’s possible for a game of this caliber to live up anywhere close to its expectations. We are at the point where it’s too big to fail while also being too big to succeed. What I mean is that no matter how acclaimed, the standards it is expected to meet are simply unattainable and will cause widespread disappointment. No doubt it’s going to be more controversial than No Man’s Sky.
My only real fear is that the game will use the cyberpunk genre more as an aesthetic and less as an opportunity to explore the political and social themes it incorporates. I can stand bugs but a shallow, superficial game world burns me out fast.
