Want to know about us ahe? Well... This regiment is like a last Huzzar (see what I did there?) for me and Lindblom. We have both been playing Cavalry for 7+ years now and due to Cavalry dying, we decided to make this the final competitive regiment in our cavalry careers. We hope to have good matches and may even create some tournaments in the future to try and keep competitive cavalry alive in its final year! See you all on the battlefield.

The 7th has since it's transformation into becoming a Hussar regiment been the embodiment of dash and panache for which every cavalry regiment strives. Nicknamed "The Saucy Seventh" their only rivals were the near equally fashionable regiment the 10th Hussars. The 7th also attracted much of their Officers from the notability, including two princes. The foundation of the 7th is something of a mystery owing to their earliest documents being lost. It is known however that a commission was delivered to Colonel Richard Cunningham in 1690 ordering him to relinquish his foot command and take over a regiment of Dragoons.
The early years of Cunningham's Dragoons were uneventful with the troops spread out in billets throughout the Highlands. It had it's first military action in 1694 when it was sent to Flanders to join the King's Army marching and counting-marching for three years and being subject to the odd review.They were present at the capture of Namur in 1695. In 1697 the Dragoons returned home for a dozen years policing the lowlands. In August 1713 following the treaty of Utrecht the regiment was reduced, eighteen months later however George I re-raised the regiment to deal with the latest Jacobite threat. A few months later the regiment was granted the title of "Our Dear Daughter Her Royal Highness the Princess Of Wales' Own Regiment of Dragoons." In 1727 George II renamed the regiment "The Queen's Own."
The Queen's Own were mobilised for The war of the Austrian Succession and found themselves in June of the next year near the Valley of Maine where they found themselves exposed to the fire of the French guns. With the 3rd & 4th Hussars they charged, routing the French cavalry and eventually forcing back the French foot with some friendly infantry support. The regiment also fought in the battles of Fonteroy and Roucoux before they landed back in England in 1749.
In 1760 the (now) 7th were sent to the continent fighting in the Seven Years war but did nothing of consequence before eventually coming home after three years.
For the next thirty years the regiment soldiered quietly at home near the Anglo-Scottish border. The French revolution however saw the Hussars once again sprung into action in the Netherlands. In 1794 the 7th partook in the battle of Beaumont, a great cavalry victory reported by the Fortescue as "The greatest day in the history of the British horse." Here the British cavalry regiments had routed 25,000 French troops with swift flanking attacks. This success was mirrored a fortnight later at Willems, charging the French squares nine times until they inevitably broke. The retreating infantry was massacred. A few days later at Mouvaux the 7th continued to show their skill when they launched a daring raid to rescue their captured Colonel. After a further year of intense fighting the campaign was ended with the regiment sent home for a peaceful four years. The 7th partook in a minor campaign in 1799 to aid Holland, alas this failed and sealed the eighteenth century.
It was in 1806 that The Prince of Wales bestowed the distinction of Hussars upon his own regiment, the 10th. Lord Paget, colonel of the 7th, was a friend of the prince and this friendship soon saw the 7th granted the magnificent uniforms of the Hussars.
In 1808 the Queens Own were sent to reinforce John Moore's army, a mission bleak from the start. The 7th however did buy itself some renown in this, at Sahagun with the 15th Hussars two regiments of French cavalry, cuirassiers and dragoons were hastily overwhelmd. Many prisoners were taken and many enemies were felled at relatively little personal loss. At Benevente the rather overenthusiastic vanguard of the French advance was swiftly pushed back into the river they had only just crossed. Another patch of glory for the Queen's Own.
After the catastrophic retreat however the Hussars found themselves stationed in Ireland for three years. It was not until Orthes in 1814 when the 7th would once again see action. Here they mauled the retreating French infantry gaining a mention in Wellington's dispatches.
A year later the regiment found itself amongst the "lucky" regiments given the honour of fighting Napoleon one last time. At this point their colonel was Henry Paget, Lord Uxbridge the commander of the Whole British cavalry. On the eve of Waterloo the 7th were honoured when Uxbridge gave them the charge on the advancing Polish Lancers at Genappe. In this brutal and fierce engagement only nineteen of the 120 men of the Queen's Own remained in the saddle.
The next day, at Waterloo itself the 7th were stationed on the extreme right of the allied line. Until 5pm they were unused before being charged repeatedly over a dozen times.
"And having charge every species of troops, infantry, artillery and cavalry we halted about half a mile in the rear of the French position and there found, tho' of the 7th and 15th there remained but 35 men, Colonel Kerrison and four other Officers."
In 24 hours the 7th had lost two officers, eleven wounded. Sixty two rankers killed and 109 wounded. Uxbridge, their colonel lost his leg to a cannonball.
And so ends the 7th's participation in the Napoleonic Wars. One of Gallantry, loss, desperation and Bravery.
