Spoiler
yeah yeah, i liked swimming and yg's album better
actually
fuck travis scott fuckin homogenous boring space trap
6/10
rodeo was a light 6 to decent 7/10
birds in the trap even worse
i agree with you on astroworld shit was disappointing, ive been listenin to trav since days before rodeo so this astroworld sounded so generic. it was was sonically identical to most projects this year from other artists in the genre, notably migos (whos album was trash). to be fair to travis though he works as a producer a lot and collaborates on a lot of songs and beats, but it kind of sucks he's selling his sound out, makes him way less unique.
but um gonna have to give you a big fuck you for saying rodeo is a light 7 lmao, that album easily many peoples top 10 for this decade, just sounds like you don't really fw what hes talking about on the album
I'm pretty sure producers produced 95% of Astroworld
TOP 10 IN THE DECADE FOR RODEO lol wtf thats bs. I get the concept behind the album and he has a LOT of hit singles/songs from it but there is no way that shits a masterpiece lol. I'm allowed to not be a fan of his sound as well. The way he raps all spacey/psychadelic and how the production of his songs are actually better than the monotonous tone and uniformity of his voice/bars. It's not for me, and for me his music needs more variance not just in the production. Don't even get me started on Huncho Jack.
that young thug feature on lifes a trip OOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuu thats some good shit
to be honest trippie doing well musically, he just acts like such a kid on instagram
I agree with you but he is a kid, he's 19 but I think it's more of his snob personality.
I aint robbin you of your opinion or nun, i understand why travis isn't liked by a lot of people. Im a fan and you're not i get that, but the fact that a lot of people in the hiphop community and a lot of critics too consider it an amazing album or a masterpiece shows that it deserves a lot more credit than you're giving it. It's a great concept album that follows a theme/story throughout coupled with outstanding production. I don't agree at all that the album is monotonous, even if Travis often uses his laid back autotune vocals and bars theres still tons of great features that switch it up. And yes i know Travis didn't produce much on Astroworld, that was Mike Dean doing a lot of the work, but he is a producer for GOOD music.
I think Travis Scott's production and features are always the best part of his music
Regardless of those critic scores, Rodeo was very well-received in the hip-hop scene and is still highly regarded today as a highly influential work of pop-rap. Everything that Travis was going for in Days Before Rodeo blended perfectly and made for a very good album. It made for a really good and new sound/aesthetic for trap. There's a reason that ASTROWORLD got its hype lol. I'm not a huge fan of Rodeo either, but to deny its importance is naive.
Yeah at the time I get how his sound would have sounded very fresh in comparison to the outburst of the trap scene and that Rodeo garnered a lot of attention and got a lot of people into Trav I'm not denying that. I don't really view Travis as a huge influencer. Birds in the Trap from what I remember wasn't hyped all that much. I think because of the grandeur of Astroworld and the potential of the project which got it's hype. I also don't think his music will age that well like 5 years from now.
Like when it comes to the modern trap sound it all started with Keef and then Future and to a lesser extent Travis really brought it into a much more mainstream sound at around the same time in 2015, so when Rodeo was dropped i personally feel like Rodeo was somewhat of a pioneering album at the time as a concept album and because of it's sound. However, i don't think most people started appreciating Rodeo as an album as much until some time after birds dropped, before that when people talked about Trav most people only talked about the two singles on Rodeo. I think thats why Birds wasn't hyped as much, plus the fact it was dropped less than an year after Rodeo.
As far his music not ageing well i can kinda see what you mean because if you look at Owl Pharaoh you can hear how dated that sound is in many ways, even on the better songs like Uptown, but i mean shit dropped 5 years ago and it was his breakout mixtape so what can you expect. Days before Rodeo is kind of in the same boat with songs like Backyard and Upper Echelon sounding so 2014, but others like Drugs you should try it, Don't Play or Mamacita still sounding great and not dated to me atleast.
