Think I'll rephrase my earlier question, as I found the single sentence on the FAQ saying they'd be using real civil war background music. Though, I wonder if that's limited to marching bands playing marching and nationalistic tunes only? I know you have a song by Sven Gerlach and one by Andrea Giachini now, but you can only have one title song right? So, will you be using both of the songs some how? I'm Mr. Curious.

We are most likely going to provide 2 Soundtracks which you can choose from.

I doubt that they would be real though... While Kubrick was actually trying to hire several thousand or atleast hundred men to make the battle scenes, Spielberg is most likely going to hire maybe 20 men for closeups and the others are going to be computer generated...

Unfortunately, Spielberg hasn't made a good movie since Jaws (granted, I haven't seen Lincoln yet).

And don't forget last time Spielberg did a movie based on a treatment by Kubrick---we got A.I. Artificial Intelligence, which was absolutely awful.

That last point is more than true...

Hmm... Better find out how to revive dead people and let Bondachuruk and Kubrick do it together...

Getting better and better!
Is that the music that will be played ingame? Or the music in the loading screens and all that?

Loading screens etc. Though if you guys want, we can ofc. add it to the ingame music.

Developer Blog 12 - Text Compression & Music

In the previous developer blog we talked about the Battle of Bull Run but today we have gone for something a little bit different! Development has been great and progressing swiftly, as such we would like to show you what we have worked on these past few weeks.

As it is always hard to show people how games work behind the scenes through code, we haven’t shown much in this area yet. Though from now on this will be different! We found a simple way to show you our progress in this area with the help of mini-programs.

In this developer blog we decided to show you something that may seem simple but is a must in any game, communication! What would a game be without the ability to chat with your friends and foes alike? Behind the scenes this means that text needs to be sent to all clients in certain teams or even globally. With that in mind we created a system that compresses text very well, supports any language and on top of that it will come with a bad word filter, which can be turned on and off client side according to the player’s preference.

Herby some screenshots of the code in action:

During these past few weeks we have also asked Sven Gerlach, the creator of the Napoleonic Wars soundtrack to make some music for us and it turned out to be great. So turn on your speakers and listen to this epic piece of music!

To listen to the soundtrack please take a look at the developer blog on our Website, here.

Thanks for reading the twelfth developer blog.

Welcome back 92nd!
First of all, thank you so much for coming back to our party. I’m not much of a speaker, but I do have a few things to say.
It seems like only yesterday that the 92nd was taking its first steps, and now it is one of the largest and oldest regiments around. It managed to impress everyone more and more with each passing day, and our little bundle of joy has blossomed into an accomplished young regiment who can go toe-to-toe with any of her peers. We’re so proud of you, 92nd!
But, as the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child, and we certainly had quite the village on our side. Thank you so much to its grandparent, Donald, for moving all the way across the the world when the 92nd was born and providing endless hours of free fun. When Vincenzo and I started working on Napoleonic Wars, you made me feel like part of the family, and I’m so happy you were here to help us raise our only DLC. I also want to thank the Communitys godparents, John Cameron and the 92nd.
They’ve been our best friends since Mount and Musket: Battalion and they have always been there for the Community. I know the Community thinks of you two as a second set of parents, and we’re truly thankful you got to be a part of the Communitys life.
There are so many more people who have supported us along the way, but I think I’ve taken up enough of your time. Please, everyone, enjoy the food, and the 92nd, know that the Community and I wish you success in everything you do. We love you so much.

Looks very good again, but it seems the one making screenshots doesn't have anti-aliasing on :O

Yep, we have no AA. Yet. It is all work in progress, nothing you see is actually done.

Thanks mates!

And yes, the Stonehouse was used as hospital during the battle and after it. It had about 20-40 wounded soldiers and one surgeon. Scales of the buildings are more or less exactly as they are in reality. They are just a bit taller. We have to make them taller, or otherwise the 3rd person camera will bump into the ceiling and will make it impossible to play indoors.

Can you like enter the houses? or are they just props?

All our buildings will have interior and will be fully destructible. There will be nothing that can not be entered or destructed.

Have you guys done any rough models yet? I'd like to scale this up with a player. Otherwise, this is getting me closer to donating.

We are currently working on it, but haven't finished it yet. I have some rulers in the game though. You can actually see one of them in the stonewall screenshot, at the far left. This white cube is a 1*1 meter cube I use for scaling.
