Team Block 6:0 Slavic Legions.

Well played to both teams. No real rule breaks to report. A very pleasant match to referee.

IVe Corps d'Armée français 4-2 Brotherhood Without Banners

Thank you to both brigades for your eventual patience. Once we got going it was a good match, and was pretty close. By my count there were two substantial instances of FiC and FoL, and a few instances where FiC and FoL shots also missed. There were accusations of Cav rambo but personally, from my view these were legitimate continuations of a full Cav charge and not Rambo. Happy to see evidence to the contrary though.

The major issue was the two rounds at the start. Regiments, please try make sure to agree your line numbers before we start, and try and stay consistent. Fortunately both brigades derped out one round each so it evened itself out. Furthermore, the more you ree at each other (and at me.) on steam and in all chat, the longer the issues take to sort out, prolonging the suffering and agony. It took a genuine threat of the nuclear option (me Alt-F4'ing and leaving the match with no admin.) to get people to behave.

I take the point about trying to have more than 1 admin at each match. It is hard to see everything, but that is the responsibility of all participants to provide enough admins. It is particularly hard when there is two matches in one day and people want to play in their respective matches (which is fair.)

All that being said, it was a good match with some excellent shooting in particular.

I am now going to have a lie down.

I wouldnt even be surprised if Dams and Zarwen had to go to mental hospital now. Both teams were inappropriate in all chat. Crying and spamming 24/7 in all chat like 12 y/o's. But man what am i even expecting
Very much team/reg dependent on how toxic the all-chat is and who they are facing. I've been part of quite a few now and each have been so varying. Reg leaders might consider getting a handle of how their members behave when they realise refs might steer clear of their matches purely because it's them.

I thought referees pretty much ignore all chat. I have been for years. If reg leaders have issues then it gets taken to steam, and should be the main form of discussion in events. But all chat has always been something to filter out. Tbh I ignore it as a reg leader too, so if a member is having a "moment" in chat I tend not to see it (and for which I can only apologise.) Learning to filter out all chat other than for OA / FiC messages is a great skill to learn for referees and admins. Is a shame that you need to do it, but it's nothing new.

The treatment of referees has been something that has been discussed for ages, pretty sure I made a point about refereeing in NWBC years ago now. NWBC is almost impossible to admin efficiently if there is only one referee watching 110/120+ players, it's not like NWL or EIC where you only have 1 class and 2 lines to watch. Therefore people make mistakes / are a bit slow and that's fine.

About the class limit issues, admins should also realise that trying to work out how many people in your group have spawned in takes a little time, and thus balancing isn't always immediate, it's not to do with trolling. Trying to rotate between members so everyone gets a chance to play also takes a bit of time too. A bit of understanding and patience on both ends goes a long way.

People complain about camping sometimes, but should remember old NWBC used to sometimes take at least 15-30 minutes per round before they put in the all-charge rules (hence why only 4 rounds per match originally.) Some things have definitely improved over the years. ;D Should be said that NWBC is still the best (and really, the only) event of it's type now, by a long way.

Congrats to Iron Crusaders btw, was a good match, and many thanks to the referees for taking the time to admin. :)

Also difficulty in finding referees in this tournament was not just limited to the final, I refereed 3-4 matches at very short notice because seemingly the regiments couldn’t be bothered to look but also because the referees couldn’t seemingly be bothered. I know that a number of signed up referees didn’t officiate a single game.

I suppose people need to remember it is just a game and not put too much expectation into efficiency/ time dedication

Your daily remember that a lot of people in this community are complete cretins with their NW experience consisting of sitting their fat arses behind a computer and insulting people when things don't go their way. Most of them have never even considered doing something which doesn't serve their friend's interest or their own and would be still crying themselves to sleep if they were put in the situation George experienced.

You were incapable of scheduling your match withing a reasonable timing, most of the people who were active and dedicated to making this event successful either lost interest or couldn't find the availabilities anymore and even the main host had some real IRL priorities which kept him away from this final. At the end of the day, you are the only responsible of what happened that match, period.

Keep your head high George and don't bother answering the morons. They ain't worth your time, trust me.

In fairness as somebody who has refereed quite a bit in the last few years, people do seem to forget that the referees give up their own time to do this, usually with very little reward and a lot of abuse and then people act surprised as to why tournaments often struggle to get  referees. That being said the idea that the match wasn’t organised because nobody could be arsed is untrue. I spent a lot of time and effort trying to get this match organised and we had to change the dates several times because of regiments not being able to make dates at short notice/ regimental leaders having irl priorities and going away.

I think the whole situation was rather unfortunate. Our attendance didn't help though I was told, and as the screenshots show, once we started (I had to go 20 minutes in and we hadn't started yet) we had over 50 hence then the balance rules should have applied. I don't think the other brigade expected to get 85 people so fair play to them. However as shit as the situation is, they probably should have balanced fully, though I understand that it sucks to have 40 people in spec. The thing with the non-combatants does seem a bit silly though, and I'm told that some of those people began picking up weapons and attacking during the rounds. Also the other brigade have to remember that they had a larger team roster anyway with their 2 brigades and 2 regiments compared to our 2 regiments and a brigade  (59th now only have one full company), so I don't think it would have been realistic to expect us to bring 85-90 people.

Also, these matches are notoriously difficult to admin on your own (from experience) so thank you to KingGeorge for even trying, for giving up your free time to come and referee and apologies if the salt got too much. (Had I been there I would have told any 59th engaging in such behaviour to stop.)

As you can imagine I'm as disappointed as anyone about these events given how long it took for me to get the match organised xD

* Also it sucks because up until this point I think this tournament had been excellent, (well until the 2 month gap before the final anyway) so many thanks to Kincaid in particular, but also my fellow referees and the other brigades for what has been a lot of fun.
