Title: Stocks
Post by: Fartknocker on June 09, 2020, 08:44:59 am
Since I graduated college and am currently unemployed, I now have a much larger interest in the stock market.

Threw $50 into my Robinhood account yesterday with my goal being to see how much I can grow it. At the end of the first day I’m up $5.92.

Anyone got any tips or stocks they’d suggest?

Right now I’ve got my eye on Drive Shack $DS. It’s been doing well and based on some research I think it’ll only get better.

Hertz was just ridiculous people became millionaires in a day off of that.

It might as well just be gambling, gl with whatever you invest in though

robinhood is for normies

real money is in short quick trades. only go long on stocks you know for sure will increase in value

Please dont fall into the trap of stocks you're never going to compete with banks who can literally print fake money and press the debt again your goverment. Get physical things like your grandparents not your mother with 20 credit cards. If you cant touch it - it's not real!

What Mark's means is why invest 20 dollars into stocks when you could invest 200 dollars into buying Prime & Load copies for your friends  8)

Was gonna dabble in stocks awhile back but I always had that thought in my head.

Precious metals are something that you could invest in.Only issue is that it's upfront costs can be quite high.

Watching the price of gold rise and fall is quite interesting. It gives you something that you can see and touch. Plus its shiny.

in the oil market, watch for companies with good underlying numbers but cash issues. they're prime for buyouts by the multinational organizations

That's the way of the stock market. You never know, could have dropped down under $0, but you got some profit from it, so that's good.

JETS and ALK are pretty safe bets if you want to get back into airlines. CCL is probably the only cruise I would buy at this point.

for casinos CNTY is my fav since they run casinos on cruises too

I also like AIR a lot, it's worth a look into

I have my hopes high for monday as GNUS has a big announcement and BYFC should have a pretty high week. I'm getting into BYFC kind of late but a ton of people seem to think that BYFC will end in the high single digits with 10$+ being a possibility. I'm not entirely sure about BYFC though so i'm only doing a couple, but really hoping that GNUS takes off for a bit. Also holding out on WKHS for a bit, not too sure if I want to dump if they hit above their target price ($26) or wait out until atleast July 14th when the announcement of the deal is made.

GNUS was a pretty large bust today if you didn't manage to sell in the pre-market. It fell from $4 at 8:05 am to under 3 by the time the business call was halfway through (all it was was that they announced they acquired the rights to stan lee's universe). It kind of makes me want to switch from robinhood to something like webull, I mean i'm still pretty new to this and feel like robinhood is the most "noob friendly" but I feel like I potentially missed out on a decent amount of cash (relative to how much i'm investing) just because I had to wait until 9:30 idk. How do you guys feel about using robinhood vs not using it?

Never used it. I use Fidelity, I really like the chart application they have.

honestly don't really listen to what people are saying, the best thing to do is do your own research and invest in things you know about/believe in

A few months ago I traded NWARF when europe was bailing out all of their air industries my realized gains were up 50%. OXLC and OXSQ were performing really well but I sold them once realized gains went over 40% on OXLC. Now i am just holding GLDI, gold futures and some pretty undervalued monthly dividend stocks. As long as bond yields stay low in developed countries we will prob remain eternally in economic limbo until the inflation starts kicking in methinks. Pension funds have to keep money in higher yield securities so we will see what happens until next year so until then id also recommend tech securities at least prob until the end of the year despite them being incredibly overvalued.

A good long run investment I personally believe is COMM cuz of their licenses for 5g antennas, but you should prob read more about it yourself first. I dont know what are the costs of manufacturing 5g antennas so I have no ideas until youd start to really see the fair value of the security to change

If I put money in literally any of my other stocks I’d be up at least 20%. Fisker is down to $17... at least you made money.

I was considering putting more of my money into Tesla but figured a different EV would be better to diversify. I was wrong as far as today goes.

Grabbed a share of Under Armor yesterday with the Curry Brand news. Already up a dollar per share. I prolly won’t buy more tho cause UA is a little shaky for me. I’ll see how it plays out.

Also Fisker seems like a long hold to me now. I really like the look of their vehicle

Grabbed a share of Under Armor yesterday with the Curry Brand news. Already up a dollar per share. I prolly won’t buy more tho cause UA is a little shaky for me. I’ll see how it plays out.

Also Fisker seems like a long hold to me now. I really like the look of their vehicle
it’s not coming out until atleast 2022 tho which kinda sucks

I picked up some RYCEY at 1.93. They had a big drop recently after some good news. Should recover to $3+ I thinks
and that was a yikes

I could see Rolls being a decent long term play. Especially once air travel comes back in force

Ye, but they’re basically the sole source for jet engines on jumbo’s. So when air travel comes back they’ll do better

Man I've been eyeing up AMCI all month but haven't dug into it yet. Not too sure if I will at this point.

I've mostly just been playing safe and playing UUU back and forth for the past two months or so. Low float and low volume. It runs pretty frequently and then settles back down for a week or two. Just this morning it ran from 2.8ish to 3.55.

Ah that sucks. I just use a regular cash account for trading. I swapped over a couple months ago and it's better than using a margin account imo

I was thinking about something earlier.

It's kind of crazy how many "retail" investors there are. At work I consistently hear people talking about stocks or I am myself talking to other people about stocks. I remember creating a robinhood account a couple years ago, but I don't remember ever really hearing people talk about it then. Of course, I was 16-17 in high school, but I mostly mean on the internet too. I personally didn't start actually "trading" until july of this year. I wonder if this is a thing that has just exploded recently, or if I'm just more keen to it since I am 21 now.

I had 1 contract at .33. Stock went up like less than a dollar or something and it was at .63

Airlines are a very long term play. If they're cheap now, wait a year and see what happens at that point. Not a good idea to day trade COVID-affected industries

Oh yeah I don’t plan on selling them anytime soon just lookin (probably too far) into the future for if they’ll peak after covid then drop or continue to drive.

Due to you fine folks I've decided to invest $140 canadian pesos.
I bought 2 shares of Ballard power systems & currently undecided of what else to buy. I'm not gonna do more than 140 so I don't fall down the rabbit hole and I'll probably hold on to these for a long while.

I am looking into more clean energy but I also don't want to just stay in clean energy companies..If that makes sense.

Any advice is welcome! I have no idea what I'm doing really but I decided to dip my toes in(I of course did look into ballard before buying shares). I'll also just be staying in the canadian market.

Depending on what calls you buy, it is pretty risky. You can lose everything with them, but also greatly multiply your gains. People turned 500 dollars into 100k on Friday for GME, but people also lost a SHITTON of money on a bunch of calls when sudden things develop a drop in the stock. If for example you bought calls before the Rona Crash, you were essentially fucked.

Depending on the due date of the call it becomes less risky, but there can still be unexpected things.

Besides that, do you have any questions in particular?

Yeah I've been following the GME rocket, shits crazy, I jumped ship with my profits at 40 and am kicking myself now.

BB to the moon tho
Bro dont take everything on Wallstreetbets serious. Im a retard (all in on GME), but I dont care if I lose the money, im only 22 and got a 100% save Job. Can you say the same?

Thoughts on buying calls?
....for what?
Just in general, not well versed in them but wondering if it's worth looking into
Depending on what calls you buy, it is pretty risky.

Besides that, do you have any questions in particular?

bruh what are you smoking
The stock price has no effect on such a damaged and failing business like GameStop. What happens when Reddit moves on? This is a bubble, and at some point people will start selling. Internet got the shortest attention span in history, in a year the price will be back to normal levels.

The long term effects will obviously be that investors like us will be paid attention to more. And short term bubbles are fun. But if I were a short seller, I’d take a long term play for shorting GME now, even if it costs me in the short term

Yes, this is having a signficant effect on shorters atm. but a) they'll survive and b) this inflation has created some prime opportunities for short bets! If I was a short player rn and i'm losing on my gme position i'd look at bb or amc and say there's no way this stays high, might as well get my losses back on these stocks
unlikely WSB is going to just wage permanent war on shorters with these stocks

Anybody who thinks Robinhood did anything illegal is either missinformed or fucking stupid. ;)

First of all they stopped trading probably due to a liquidity problem now they didn't fully admit this but they did get 3.4 billion USD in investments the following day to start trading again.
Second of all you all had to agree to Robinhoods terms of service contract when you signed up for Robinhood that covers issues like this. Sooo yeah all lawsuits are probably doa.

You were right, and when looking at the timing of your post you actually timed it pretty well aswell.

Tho just to be clear again, I always knew it was going to crash. I just got incredibly greedy and thought 1000% gain wasnt enough.

Tilrays kinda the leader. Most of the time the rest follow.

Never heard of high tide probably because it’s an OTC. I don’t even know where I can trade OTCs

I have once again made the EXACT same mistake at the EXACT same price.

“$62?! I fucking missed it again!”
*hits $92*
“Fuck I should’ve just bought in. Can’t believe I didn’t do it. Oh well”
*hits $180*

I shall now repeat my same mistake. I will not buy because I am scared to at this point. It will reach $400 and I will regret my lack of decisiveness.

Who’s in AMC?
Was in months ago for dirt cheap, kept buying on the way up, it hit $24 and I bought a lot more expecting it to be the next GameStop, it hit under $10 the same day and I lost a ton of money. I still have 3 shares at like $9 just in case it goes fuckin nuts again. Still pissed tho cause if I had held my AMC from the start I’d have a fortune rn, but my paper hands (reasonably so, sold at $16 and it went down another $8+) prevented me from holding.

Your skills in Forex trading don't depend on the computer you have. You don't need a strong computer to start trading because it doesn't provide necessities in hard computer operation that need a lot of memory. It will be great if you would have a second screen for your computer. It is a lot easier to start collecting information from the second screen. Also, it is important to start educating yourself and learn new trading strategies. You can find some of the newest strategies on timthomas.co (https://timthomas.co/6-of-the-best-swing-trading-strategies/), and try them in practice.
